Description

On May 25, 2011, several tornadoes impacted rural Russell and Rush counties in central Kansas, several of which were quite photogenic and remained over open country. One tornado unfortunately struck the south side of the city of Russell after dark, causing substantial structural damage and injuries. Earlier storms had caused a power outage in town, and as a result, no tornado sirens were sounded as the tornado approached town from the southwest. This tornado was rated EF-2.
