TVN documented multiple tornadoes just southeast of Swift Current, Saskatchewan yesterday, June 26, 2012, including one relatively large cone tornado that caused transformer explosions and destroyed a silo before becoming concealed in a shroud of rain.  These high-precipitaiton or HP supercells developed along a cold front surging east across the Canadian Prairies, behind a "renegade" supercell to the east all by itself that produced a large tornado near Moose Jaw, SK.  It looks like 2012 will be an active season across southern Canada east of the Rocky Mountains as the long-range forecast models are showing yet another upper-level trough moving in for early next week.  Never stop chasing!

6-22-12-tvnweatherAs the sun began to set last evening (June 22, 2012), TVN storm chasers Reed Timmer, Dick McGowan, Chris Chittick and Chad Cowan intercepted a violent tornado over country in extreme southwestern South Dakota! With the Dominator in the shop undergoing engine repairs, the crew was forced to chase without the protection of its Lexan windows. Massive hail (which Reed describes as the largest he has ever see) being driven by hurricane-force winds in the near-tornado environment blew out several windows on their vehicle as they remained focused on documenting one of 2012's most photogenic tornadoes--check out their video, below! Stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to check out for live storm chasing and commentary from the field, and to sign up for the soon to be released webisodes, which will detail the entire 2012 severe weather season!
