On January 27-28, 2009, northern Arkansas, southeast Missouri and western Kentucky were slammed by a crippling, once-in-a-lifetime ice storm. 1-3" of freezing rain fell across the entire area, bringing down tens of thousands of power poles and leaving millions of people in the dark for days.
