Fay made landfall as a tropical storm

Thankfully for the residents of South Florida, Tropical Storm Fay did not intensify much before making landfall this morning.  Hurricane Hunter aircraft recording a max surface wind of 49 knots with a dropsonde, with max flight level winds of 61 knots.  The satellite image was actually quite impressive at landfall, but the wind and pressure measurements did even come close to hurricane strength.  In the end, it looks like it was a good decision for us not to intercept -- although in 6 months we'll be chasing everything worldwide!

The GFS is forecasting Fay to hang a u-turn back to the Gulf of Mexico and intensify.

Is that a possibility or is the model just being wacky?

Stormw of weatherunderground.com said it was a cat1 hurricane. Also it will go of the atlantic coast and be a hurricane suggested by the gfdl after that it will hit land where/when the models diverage strongly.I actually think this was the strongest system of the year so far.

TVN should keep an eye on Thursday evening in South-Western Manitoba. CAPE of 2000 to 3000J/kg, along with a 40 knots LLJ will cross the region. There is the potential for numerous supercells.

I hope the models are a little off because I live in NE Florida. I was just looking at the current sat image and Fay is forming an eye now. Oh boy here we go!!!

WOW pressure still at 986 and 55k winds. It is a good thing for us in FL that it didn't follow the westerly track. It would be a much stronger storm. We are in real need of rain in Fl and GA. The lakes in my area are so low some are even gone. Sad to think 13 years ago you could set your watch by our afternoon thunder showers here.

Sad to think that some people don't heed the warnings. Funny...but still dangerous and DUMB!

6 months worldwide? What's that about?

Well the NHC is now calling for Fay to become a hurricane...http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCDAT1+shtml/192043.shtml

I wonder if maybe the South Florida wetlands are playing a role...I know that Florida's flatness is helping it not to weaken considerably, but it seems to even have strengthened a little bit, at least the hurricane center says so in the forecast discussion. I know that tropical cyclones derive their energy from oceanic heat...but this really reminds of TS Erin last year when it restrengthened over Oklahoma, supposedly due to a very moist environment over the state. Anyone here have any thoughts on this?

Hopefully it won't intensify too much but we could use the rain here in GA for sure. Seems like we been in the water shortage for almost 2 years now.

The everglades have almost no trees just grass and slow moving hot water. Most of it's strength is comming from south of FL and the gulf stream now. Look at the 850mb moisture transport.

Also look at the different models. The NWS, BAMM, UKMET, and NOGAPS are the favored models for the storm.

TVN! if you're trying to go worldwide, i suggest that you try my country the Philippines!!! as of this post, my country is being kicked with a typhoon (140 -170 kph winds) or an category 2 hurricane on Saffir-Simpson scale. and also we recently experienced, 5 tornadoes and 3 waterspouts as well mehehehe!!!

Worldwide TVN? Good tornadoes in Brazil.. "ha ha"..

your team must be going stircrazy.. We cought an amazing cell in Sedona AZ a couple of days ago.. Insane pictures with the red rock background. Crazy Hailstorm! We have been here in COLO Springs the past couple of days... pretty interesting. Cells had some great structure with some rotation. May venture up north as there could be "something? " Who knows... were having a good time though..

Posted some news about "Fay" a bit prematurely... Whew.. Glad I called it right. Looks like if this one hits some Atlantic waters on the Florida exit... It may strengthen... TVN... Hope you are in the southeast... Its like Vegas.. Just roll the dice and run with it.. Thats what we are doing.. Its all good mates..
