Small supercells have developed this evening along a weak cold front from south-central Manitoba into northeastern North Dakota. Marginal wind shear and a strong cap have limited the tornado threat so far, but the low-level jet should increase over the next few hours. If the strengthening cap with nightfall does not kill the storms, then there may be a narrow window for tornadoes over this area.
Given the marginal conditions for tornadoes, we decided to bypass this setup for a more substantial storm system forecast to eject from the North Pacific late next week. Hopefully this was the right decision!!!

6-7 0-1 km EHIs are being analyzed over southeast MB right now. If the storms in south-central MB can make it to this environment they will have a chance. The storm just north of the border is looking interesting..
I would have to agree on that storm just north of the border. It had a visible hook on EC's radar image-which just doesnt happen very often.
Not to mention it seems to be heading in a bit different direction than the other cells nearby it.
There seems to be a few tornado warnings in the area east of Winnipeg... I'd be very curious to know if there have been any reports.
The radar is showing some very intense storms southeast and northeast of Winnipeg. I haven't heard specific reports of any tornadoes or funnel clouds yet but I wouldn't be surprised judging by the intensity of the systems...
Very intense storms indeed. I haven't heard of any tornado reports, perhaps we needed TVN to report those otherwise "unreported Canadian twisters"!.
damn tvn dropped the ball..
anyone planning to chase Bertha if it goes up the US coast?
i say good luck to things being reported. Seems like nobody does. Maybe it's just my province..
The confirming takes EC too long, too. It took them 3 days to confirm the tornado in Yorkton on June 19th..it's no wonder issuing/updating a warning takes so long!
hey reed.;... it happens to all of us. im thinking thursday in central alberta.
Thursday looks good again for Southern Manitoba, although a strong cap may once again be cause for hesitation.
TVN Forum member Tim Wilson got some excellent photos of the action in MB last night! 8)

good shots tim, No doubt there's more to come.
We have a tornado confirmed on the ground 12 miles south of Limon, Colorado.
A friend of Joel's got pictures of a land spout tornado in Kansas today. I'll be posting them later this evening or tomorrow once they're emailed. They weren't storm chasing but just passing through for the holidays.
