Happy July 4th to everyone!
We were hoping to spend this Independence Day in Canada chasing tubes, but the moisture is having major problems making it that far north.
In other news, today is the 30 year anniversary of the F4 tornado that struck Elgin, ND 60 miles southwest of Bismark on July 4, 1978. Here is the Bismark NWS page concerning this insane tornado:

HAPPY INDEPENDANCE DAY TO ALL OUR SOUTHERN NEIGHBORS FROM US HOSERS IN CANADA EH!!!!
reed:
just talked to nicola outouf edmonton ...she thinks your in the right spot in manitoba for tommorow. in alberta maybe around the sask alberta border today ...things are so iffy here and E.C. doesnt give us much to go on here. good luck!
Looking at the models I have access too, it seems as though tonight is a poor night for storms, lacking the ingredients. In the Swift Current area, the high today is 33 degrees Celsius and humidity is about is continuing to fall at 39%. There are a few watches in effect for southern alberta at this time. Tomorrow looks more prominent than anything.
Where are you guys setting up camp?
Just so everyone knows, TVN is still in the US and most likely will not be in Canada until sometime next week at the earliest. :)
Where they having fires up in Canada?
Happy 4th to all!
In my opinion, tomorrow looks very interesting in southeastern Manitoba, southwestern Ontario, and northern Minnesota. I'd be up there but I'm celebrating the 4th down in Dallas (waaay too hot here!)
Observed and photographed a beautiful high based Supercell west of Red Deer, AB this afternoon. Great structure, but no chance for a tornado. If interested, in the comming hours or tomorrow, a blog entry will should be posted up at:

Don't mean to be knit-picker, but just for clarification Dale...I think you mean North-Western Ontario. I noticed Reed also called the area adjacent to South-Eastern Manitoba South-Western Ontario as well last summer.
Ontario is such a big province the areas get confusing. South-Western Ontario is actually down around Windsor (Detroit) area. North-Western Ontario is the Kenora/Dryden area.
i was told manitoba sk... nicola is a meterologist in edmonton
I didn't mean that North-Western Ontario will be the only place where the storms will be...I just meant that South-Western Ontario is Windsor, the area in Ontario that might see Storms is North-Western Ontario and South-Eastern Manitoba (in Manitoba).
Sorry if there was some confusion
oh no...no confusion...truth be told i get most of my meterology knowledge as to whats going on around alberta here from nicola. she works for global edmonton. we were talking today and we both agree that eviroment canada just doesnt put out enuff info alot of the times , but then again they cant because of a limited budget im sure. the last major breakthough in canadian weather casting was undertaken after i think 27 ppl lost there lives in the edmonton tornado 21 years ago. its the way of things. thats why we need more trained and die hard weather spotters and chasers here in canada.
I really like the system the GFS has for late next week in the Canadian Prairies.. unfortunately it looks like moisture might again be a problem.
There could be some good svr storms in MB tomorrow, but the shear will likely be too far east of the instability.
I nearly lost my eyesight during a fierce July 4 water basketball game yesterday - finger nails to both eyes. It looks like the next storm chase I'll be wearing a TVN eye patch..
truth be told dale you do have confusion, your a canadian and you should understand what skgirl is saying, southwestern ontario is not northwestern ontario, huge huge difference in geography and weather related issues.
I wonder if reed is in MB today, there's a great environment for supercells in E / SE Manitoba.
yesterday was a complete bust we tried a few cells then it started to get dark. So we left since it looked like garbage. The discussions where way to optimistic i'm not amused. I really wanted to use my Vixia HV30 too :( we had 2 HD cams with us and nothing to do with em.
haha, I thought I'd clear another thing up here ;)
Sk is not SkGirl (Lisa).
She's asked me over MSN who this person is, and I know. That is Scott, from Steinbach, Manitoba.
Just thought I'd clear this up to prevent confusion :)
Jon
Also, the latest PASPC Discussion is hinting at potential tornadoes today in SE half of Southern Manitoba!
The real stuff is starting to show up in MN-NW ON now.
Just a reminder, we have forecasting and nowcasting discussions in the forum. =D
