HUGE MCS (Mesoscale Convective System) is under way over Illinois. This system is very impressive because of its size... IT COVERS HALF THE STATE!!!

There are a few reports of wind with the leading convective squall line but they are minor. Never the less this is a very impressive complex.

Closer to home...

TVN Steam One is jumping with joy in circles because we have a non zero tornado chance in Oklahoma!!!

... Joy!!!

MCS Yes.. Tornadoes? Well minimal chance. Looks like a bunch of moisture "HP" for sure.

WI got a few out of the convective action that past through there earlier... Really looking forward to what EC is forcasting for Thursday thru Saturday.

Minimal chance yes but there has already been 4 reports of tornadoes. This is a fairly large MCC. I am surpriesed there is no warnings along the line.

The area of low pressure "Dolly" also has a 2% zone tomarrow the slight risk will shift east. But there won't be a slight there might be a "see text"

Also it looks like there are storms devolping ahead of the MCC. looks like there is a gust front. That might cause pulse storms tomarrow.

Caleb.. The previous (4) tornado reports were from an earlier meso from earlier a bit farther north. That cell organization has moved east way past MI attm Different from the the large MCS over IL.. see link below..

JC, a cyclone is the name of the whole low pressure system. They are technically called extratropical cyclones.

MCS Frenzy Comment Posted By Charles Loring | July 30, 2008 @ 8:05 AM #

Matt, is that the same thing as when a hurricane becomes extra tropical? Or is that completely different?

MCS Frenzy Comment Posted By JC Surfs | July 30, 2008 @ 8:29 AM #

Thanks Matt.

Looks like Canada is going to get their set-up like our May 22 thru 25th in KS ! Looking forward you chasing up there keeping us updated.

Any TVN teams going up there? Some basic links to peruse:

That MCS yesterday, really wasnt much, although it looked like it on radar. I intercepted it and received 45-50 M.P.H wind gusts, and heavy, level 4 rain. ESDA Station 1 just 3miles to the west of me lost power, and had generator troubles. Which made it even better that there was no damage.

The most impressive thing with this storm when it had passed through was easily the lightning. By the time heavy rains had subsided and time for me to setup my hd camera it was already time for me to go to work to record the beautiful cloud to cloud lightning it was providing. Unfortunatly I didnt not get any footage. however I have some video of storms a couple storm fronts that had pass through my area and some other random video. perhaps i'll compile it and send it to you guys. the season is almost over!
