As a shortwave trough rotates through Alberta, supercells have developed along a cold front in Southwest Saskatchewan this afternoon. Upper-level flow is very marginal for the maintenance of rotating updrafts, but very high CAPE values of 3000+ J/kg could compensate. A 25-30 knot low-level jet is definitely supportive of low-level rotation, so I would not be surprised if a few tornadoes are reported from these storms. Shown below is a radar loop beginning just before 20z from SW SK...Stay tuned for updates as this severe weather situation unfolds!

Myself, Kalin Wiebe, and Craig Hilts from Southwest Storms Chasers will be tracking this storm and intercepting it in about an hour. We are going to be heading north towards the Saskatchewan as these cells are tornadic. Several warnings and watches for severe weather have been issued as well as tornado warnings for the RM of Piapot.
Looks impressive.. Reed are you guys chasing up there? Those cells should produce.
North east of maple Creek.. That cell looks like its firing

Oh well, maybe something will produce tomorrow in my area!
Awwww i live in the northern area i wish there was gonna be some that develop out there I'm only 14 years old and chasing storms but i cant get down there so I'm really :(
Followed most of these all day. Mostly just lots of rain, not much or hail or anything else.
Hey All..
Does anyone know the link to getting the tornado reports for Canada like the SPC does here for the states?
If anyone has that info, please post the link. Cheers!
it looks like weak upper flow was the achilles heel for these storms.. 20 more knots at 500 to 300 mb and there could have been some tornadoes.
getting those siberian lows coming over from alaska...messing everything up this year. usually we have a mother low sitting off the coast of vancover and high pressure systems up in the arctic. oh well theres still time i should think for another possible 3 weeks.
I was wandering if there has been any activity near manitoba as my neighbours son and his wife and child moved there 3 months ago and i hope nothing happens to them this year
