Incredible video of the Chicago-area tornadoes from yesterday!

Check out this video from storm chaser Andrew Pritchard of the large tornadoes that tore through Northern Illinois yesterday afternoon/evening!  Andrew intercepted three wedges, with one attaining nearly 1 mile in width...  He said that when one tornado was roping out, a new tornado would form with the new circulation in a matter of seconds.  Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported from yesterday's tornadoes, which is a miracle considering the population density...

We're about to head out to Northwest OK in the next hour, but I doubt we'll see anything like Andrew saw yesterday.

Good one Andrew! Really active meso in that sc...

Did anyone intercept the event in Osbourne KS? Those cells showed some potential early yesterday.

SPC says slgt with 10% probable for tornadoes today... we'll see.

Go get em boys... Think there may be some interesting activity later.. Looking interesting of development in sw IA.. Still would be running in the below noted..

Think W Ok/sw KS regardless.

Does anyone remember the game "battleship"? Kinda like the new version of it... we'll call it "severe strikes"... LOL

Not that I would encourage anyone to risk themselves or any of their property, but I would like to have seen things from a little closer vantage point.

Really good vid. Not bashing at all.

I guess I'm spoiled by the all the vids the TVN crew post.

Glad that there were no fatalities or serious injuries!Awesome footage.
Sorry if I scared everyone with my post yesterday in the wrf radar thread stating that the tornado was in Chicago. I just saw the warning and it's wording and thought that those suburbs were closer in...without taking the time to look

I also have relatives in Omaha, which got hit last night too. They're ok thankfully

Good luck chasing today!

Strike... I have to agree. I would have like to have seen a closer vantage point, but who am I to tell a storm chaser what to do. It does look like that the cops cut him off several times from getting closer. The TVN crew has spoiled us over the years for sure! But either way, outstanding footage... Great job Andrew, love the vid!

The fact that that cell went through the south burbs of Chicago without horrendous damage is amazing. When I saw where it was heading I was thinking serious tragedy. Whew. Great look at it guys!

GREAT VIDEO!! AWESOME! Good thing it didn't kill anyone. Also, Clement, there is this great feature called Babble Fish Translation from a search engine website called AltaVista.com, which was just recently bought by a website called Yahoo!. Here is a link: http://babelfish.yahoo.com/?fr=avbbf-us
Also, FYI, I'm a kid too! (Age 10). Alright, I'm going to stop typing now, I'm still sweating from taking my puppy out in 100 degrees fahrenheit temperatures here in central North Carolina. If you don't know where that is (no offense), I will tell you later.

WOW!

The storms on the west side of OK... Hmm. It appears that these sc's are breaking out of the squall and appear to have some umph to them. Anyone streaming out there today?

Also... the on cell going northeast passing Alba ? Looks like stream 3 is positioned well attm. That cell looks wonderful.. Should get pretty interesting in the nearing hours.

Clement:
Read all you can about weather and severe weather. Get the basics of storm production and movement down first. At your age clement, you'll have a long time to study before you can chase one so now is a good time to start learning things. This is a link to N.O.A.A. in the U.S. about the different terms of weather , severe weather and general meterology kiddo. Enjoy.

Jc,

I like the GR3 radar....showed a mesocyclone about 1-2 miles from me before the power at my apt went out and after the EAS went off for a tornado warning. Then my fire pager dropped the tones and i was busy for about 2 hours....I think a possible EF0 went through my area due to the damage path that I drove around and checked out.

Everyone,

When I get my internet back up I'll post the radar pic just before my power decided to cut out. Winds really kicked up over 60 mph and looked like the trees were going around with the wind in a circular motion

What?? !!!

Just get back from a day on the coast.. checkin in on all my storm stuff and... nothing? Nada ? No Bueno...

Would of thought for sure we would have had some ... activity in the OK/KS vicinity.. All we get is a big ole squall line... Whats up with that?

Guess it is time for our season migration.. Its time to visit our friends up north eh!

Our surf in so Cal is HUGE attm.. guess I am stoked to be getting my hydro horizontal twister fix filled out here. Its been "alltime" the past 4 days..

Jason, thanks for your input on the GR3.. For next years chasing, I really want to be well dialed for what nature gives us.. I am really in awe of the chases in May... OMG... memories for a lifetime ! Insane !!! 595 tornado reports for May.. Woah!

Looks like I wont be doing much more on this site unless we get some more opps. in the plains... I alway had a personal policy.. "Do not chase squall lines"...

Maybe day "4".. but looks to be more up in the north.

All of you doing the Canada thing coming around the corner... Be safe..

JC

Wow...some crazy weather all across North America yesterday. I am so thankful that with such a widespread storm system, that it didn't end up as catastrophically as it could have. I must say that, although we didn't see too much here in Saskatchewan, it was interesting to be under a tornado watch for the first time in a year, especially when environment canada was using language which suggested almost DEFINITE development of cold core tornadoes in my area. To all those still in the affected area, stay safe out there. Lets all hope that July will bring at least some peace to the storm ravaged areas.

Storms with flooding is my main concern. High winds and hail are likely in Arkansas and Northern Texas and Louisiana at times. A few tornadoes are very possible, as some brief rotation has been happening with a lot of these storms. I would say they would be very weak and short lived however.

Yesterday afternoon 7 funnel clouds were spotted in southern Manitoba and 1 brief touchdown according to Environment Canada.

I went out around 4pm and caught a real nice cell just to the west of De Salaberry. Dropped a twisted rope for about 15 to 20 seconds. Just short enough for me to not get a picture. I will post pics of the cell later.

Also, rookie chasing mistake #1: Driving at high rates of speed down farm roads after 2 days of heavy rain. Got stuck in 2 feet of mud for almost an hour. I will never complain about my Suburban ever again.

Good luck Caro.
