Storm chaser Andrew Pritchard was chasing this storm and reports 3 wedges just southwest of Chicago. As one would rope out, the second wedge was on the ground seconds later. He said major damage with cars and building debris getting thrown hundreds of yards away from the tornado. VERY bad situation in Kankakee and Will Counties. Hopefully we'll have the video up shortly!!!
It's not over yet, another tornado on the ground southwest of Waukegan! Rotation looks incredible on radar...
Check out the radar just offshore from Grand Rapids!
incredible low level rotation and TVS!
here's some footage of one of the chicago tornadoes forming
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZWRuwFSnXJ8
Some nice shots of a nice looking tornado...
though, I wish the camera was on a tripod... rather shaky!
WOW... very visible tornado. I haven't seen a base like that this season.
0-1 km EHIs were 9+ at the time of the tornado, with 0-1 km helicities of ~500, CAPEs 3500 J/kg. out of control
Where do you get those radars pictures like the one on this blog?
Incredible meso/tornado pics coming across live feed at myfoxchicago.
JasonF, click my name for a thread that's on the forum about GRLevel3, and how to use it (including how to set it up). It's available on a 30 day trial, but after that you have to pay.
Wetaskawin AB Canada is looking good... I wish my forum registration gets approved soon... I'm missing out on all the conversation!
yeah i was there, it didn't hit a extremely populated area, but there is damage to a few of houses
there are maybe some injuries but i'm pretty sure there aren't any deaths

No need to go further off-topic with this... I'll wait a couple more days, then e-mail Admin.
Sarah, I will try to have this taken care of for you tomorrow! Thanks for being so patient! (And sorry!)
Okay, thanks Heidi :)
Heidi to the rescue......ok now the storms that hit Illinois seem to have found their way towards me....Svr thunderstorm warnings about 1-2 counties west of me (about 50 miles) and moving my way....fun stuff
Hey, have fun with it Jason... whereabouts are you?
I was called up to head out and film this tornado with my hd camera. unfort I was unable to do so. I was drinking all day on a golf course. It's quite frustrating that the possiblity of seeing probably the biggest tornado i'll see in a while in this area because i was drinking and playing golf. However better safe then to be sorry. I feel like i let myself down. Purchasing this new HD camcorder specifically for chasing and here i am on a golf course and this happened. then again I suppose you cannot predict the size and how violent these tornadoes may be!
So, in conclusion if anyone at all has some footage and pictures please share. you tube has a link to this tornado at birth it appears.

Other then that fill me in with details it's 11 at night and I just got in from my long day of activities. The sad part of this tornado is I had a phone call from my brother that lives in arizona before the storm chaser had called me to film this thing. :) I thought it was something funny to share.
Just north of detroit
Dang Mike! Don't beat yourself up over it though...
Well, I am beating myself up over this. from tornado birth to conclusion is a matter of 10minutes southwest from i live out of town. and to roughly th burbs 45minutes. it's something to be easily frustrated about. knowingly that these storms were expected to do this. Normally in this area all the system die. It's like There's a invisable line that just steals all the energy from storms and this time we get something. pretty unfortunate for me.
Yeah, that would be very disappointing Mike... sorry for the comment.
hey guys, i ve just registered waiting to be approved. i live in des plaines ill 45 mins away from chicago. i just got a downpour at one point and gusty winds. i actually had a little league baseball game before this turned on weather channel then boom, tornado warning! i went outside with my cam but nothing, so kind of good and bad in ways. i can still remember aug 23 2007 when i was walking home from school with my cam and i was in a huge microburst, it was scary but it was cool at same time i was in my living room power went out. that was a active weather day1. u guys gonna be streaming tornado chases tommorow, on sun june 8 suppose to be another active day for storms were out of the severe tho. but iowa texas kansas and wisconsin are in the red zone.
here's some images of damage and several tornadoes in the chicago area from today

Well everyone I can finally shut up now. I saw my first tornado yesterday (saturday). And it was a wedge!!!!!! I didnt even have to go far from my home. It was in the same county as me. Anyways next post will be a link to my pics.

I would like to point out that the entire mesocyclone appeared disconnected from the parent storm.
NE of Gardner
At this point there were other chasers next to us shooting media.

A very warm breezy inflow was noted here.

That was the tornado at its widest.
There were times were the tornado was a wedge, a cone, and even stovepipe shape. At one point a satellite tornado developed an 1/8 of a mile east of us and forced us to turn around do to power lines being snapped. We eventually ran into the damage path and was forced to stop chasing the storm because we entering highly populated areas.
Am I the only when who gets irritated when the media refers to a tornado (especially a large or strong one) as a funnel cloud? I have always been tought that it is a tornado on the ground and a funnel cloud off the ground. So I get a little annoyed when I see something like this.

In picture 12, a fairly large, possibly strong tornado is referred to as a "huge funnel cloud kicking up dirt"
Anyone else feel this way?
Awesome pics Vincent!
Omaha under a tornado warning right now with reports of damage. Not a good day for major cities and tornadoes.
Nice pics especially of the wedge
Yup, not a good day for Chicago and Omaha!
Amazing pictures Vincent! About how wide do you think that monster wedge was at its widest?
And yes, Connor I know what you mean! When I saw that picture, it bugged me;why call it a funnel cloud? They are definitely making the phenomenon sound less dangerous, in my opinion.
The hotspot for tornadoes later today seems to be the OK/TX Panhandles. Good luck to whoever is chasing!
Yeah that guy was much closer. Picture twelve looks like the satellite tornado I saw. There were spin ups everywhere and they were coming and going literally.
Yup just got woke up by the sirens. Turned on the TV and saw that there was damage to a target thats like 1/2 a mile northwest of my apartment building!
OMG, It Could Happen Tomorrow was right!
man i wasnt able to get on here last night ( crazy driver hit a substation) but i have cousins that live in chicago i wonder if there ok..btw ITS TOO HOT IN OHIO!!!
I was thirty minutes south of the tornado. My friend was sheltering in her apartment less than half a mile away! We got stuck on I-57 as they closed a portion where the tornado crossed the highway. Pretty extreme!
i am glad no one got hurt but no warning? wow there are no excuses its just sad
Here's an interesting video:

my storm system here is smart it tell us after the storm hits that a storm is coming. they need to improve it a lot.
