Strong tornadoes likely today in NE Texas/SE Oklahoma

Given the insane wind shear profiles that are forecast to be in place east of a surging dryline this afternoon/evening, strong tornadoes will be likely with any discrete storms that form.  The best location for strong tornadoes appears to be along and just south of a surface low progged to move eastward just south of the Red River.  50 knots at 850 mb and 700 mb with significant turning will yield extreme low-level shear values.  This could be a very bad situation for the populated NE TX.  We're currently heading east on Highway 82 toward the I-35 corridor, and expect initiation around 2 and 3.  Stay tuned to the live streaming!  Good luck to all who are chasing today...these are going to be some very fast movers!

Where exactly in NE Texas.. I'm in the Denton area... :)
Should I be concerned?

Cathy, you should. The best things you can do is listening to weather radio and taking care of what happens outside. You're in a slight risk of severe weather within a 10% risk for tornadoes (if I'm right):

And they bumped up the tornado probability up to 15% from 10 looks like dallas is in for a bad day.

Reed appears to be headed there on I-35

Oh man this looks like its gonna be bad......I live in NC and have only had two run-ins with any tornadoes.....both last year......one turned out to be some sort of dust devil under a thunderstorm and the other i'm pretty sure was an F0. Good luck and my prayers to all residents of the Texarkana and Dallas/Ft. Worth metro areas!

Hey if anyone is anywhere near Limon, Colorado you are under a tornado warning due to several funnel clouds from one thunderstorm being reported by local law enforcement. Dangerous situation, take cover now.

I am not a huge fan of SPC banking on NE TX. I thought all day long that the area to be concerned with was over/just west of DFW. There is currently clear air west of ABI and the dryline is set up over that region. The upper low is tracking slowly east. SPC is wrong on this one, and the area that is to be the most active is from Stephenville to Ardmore, which includes the DFW metro.. I surely hope that nobody is getting sucked into the SPC hole in PAris Texas...

Those storms should not be producing a tornado in colorado its because of very dry surface air which will limit tornados touchng the ground. They have formed because of intense turning in the strom south west to south east winds classic situation.

Cathy, if you want to get a more accurate picture of the weather in you area, I suggest you watch the following site: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/radar_tab.php

Just put your mouse pointe over the area you want and click for a closer look.

(in layman's terms)
Green is weak, reds & purples are the ones you should be prepared to take cover against. ;)
