As many of you know, yesterday was the 1-year anniversary of the tragic EF5 tornado that struck Greensburg, KS the night of May 4, 2007. Sadly, 13 people lost their lives from that storm, and a majority of the buildings in Greensburg were completely destroyed. Below is a 4-part video compiled in remembrance of that night by Dick McGowan and Darin Brunin of TornadoLive.com.
A week ago, we visited Greensburg for the first time since the tornado, and while the rebuilding process is moving forward rapidly, visual scars of the tornado are widespread. Nearly all the trees in the town are dead or severely injured, and bare foundations of previous buildings can be seen everywhere. Still though, a strong feeling of optimism and determination is apparent with the locals as the town continues to rebuild stronger and more eco-friendly than ever. Heading the rebuilding process is Greensburg GreenTown, a nonprofit organization established to provide the residents of Greensburg with the resources, information, and support to rebuild as a model green community. News and updates of the rebuilding process, as well as donation information can be found at the following website:

Storm chasers not only played a significant role in the warning process during this tragic tornado event but providing ground truth to National Weather Service forecasters and Emergency Managers, but also have established a charity program called Project Greensburg, where profit from storm chaser highlight DVDs are being donated to the rebuilding process. Information on this program can be found at the URL below:

Great videography guys. The last video clip really puts all the devastation and loss into perspective.
Wow, imagine how much this town loss... which makes me think about what I've got today, great video for the guys who put this together...
AJ should be getting nailed by the storm in Garden City!!
Reed are you going to chase tomorrow?Well in kansas there is a risk for a strong tornado. Also 4.5 hail reported in kansas.
Very concerned for tornadic development in new mexico and as the monster supercell moves into texas winds are getting better in low levels.Since this storm is on its on these winds coupled with rich moisture, cape and low winds backing m,ay prove for a ef2 to ef3 range tornado as well as 5 inch hail and 80mph winds
I've linked a doppler image of the current New Mexico storm. This is a good site for some of you to watch tomorrow if things in the Texas panhandle get going.
Yeah I was surprised to see a tornado reported in NM
I got this new mexico storm right on the money I knew a tornado was coming.perhaps ef2 ef3 range.
I can't imagine what the people of that fine town must have went through. It just goes to show you once again what nature is capable of doing. Despite the tragic losses suffered by the town, there is a new hope there that things will soon be as they were before, if not better. I wish all the best to the residents of Greensburg and everyone helping out on the relief effort.
Does anyone know where to get a StormHawk, and how expensive they are? Or is there a better system to get?
the nm tornado's were weak.well, the ones that happened in roswell were.
Greensburg just breaks my heart. It's nice to see the town try to get back on it's feet, but it's still a sad sight.
By the way, I did get nailed today by some nice storms. Check the forum. ;)
Never a good day anyplace that gets struck by any tornado. But yes Greensburg stands out as a horror story of what tornado's can and do do.
Today should be a severe weather outbreak.Only storm center can't determine it now cause of earlier convection and rain cooled outflows. But I think these outflows will only enhance severe threat for tornados
Alberto i'm still waiting for you strong tornado that was supposed to hit chicago on friday night
In all fairness to alberto, I think the "f4" tornado that was predicted for Chicago was done so by a poser...."alberta"
My family and I are from the Goddard / Wichita, KS area. My parents run a construction and trucking company and we have been helping with the rebuilding process of Greensburg, and you would not believe how far it truely has come. The people of Greensburg are amaizing. They are very ready to be done with this process and to put the tornado behind them. They are still shaken, but they are very determined.
I am predicting a strong ef3 to ef4 tornado today for the texas panhandle
Moderate Risk just issued by the SPC for today.
Very sad... thats all I can really say :/
You know what? Enough on the devestation... get some solutions on how to get a warning system that truly saves property damage.
By the way Reed... Why is that you only saw the devestation a week ago.... Where were you on the Greensburg 1 year ann... You know who this is..
north of Clovis MN... today @ 4 to 5..

I think that you guys are awesome to be able to go into storms like that, to help people. I could NEVER do something like that; I would piss myself.
The videos have really touched me and I cried for those who lost their lives and those poor animals. The chasers did a great job contacting the emergencies to help those they stumbled upon while checking things out. And the folks who stayed there are the strong ones to get their town back on its feet!
