Two locations will possibly see tornadoes today, as indicated by the moderate risks issued by SPC this morning. We're targeting the southern target in western Kansas, but will definitely need some major moisture return and low-level jet action near sunset. We think there is a narrow window just before sunset where there could be a chance for large tornadoes. Tomorrow looks huge as well in the same area.

Good luck to all that are chasing! Hope ya get even more great tornado footage!
Cold core funnels possible in SE Manitoba today, would be interesting to see.
I feel Oklahoma has a good shot today if thing's come together . OUN 's HWO look's good for Northern Oklahoma. Good luck today Reed !
Good luck today guys! Well, I'm barely in the 5% hatched area on the SE edge of the moderate risk area. I'll be watching! Stay safe out there!
I am here in the Twin Cities...finally some action up here with the Mod Risk. Currently cloudy, but hopefully the sun comes out to get these things to fire up.
TJ_KC...SPC has us in the SE edge of the 5% risk. In the convective outlook they talk of Kansas (etc) having dewpoints reaching in the mid 60's by mid-afternoon. Well, here in my location we are already at 73 degree dewpoint and 82 degrees temp! Bet our dews climb to the upper 70's by late afternoon with all the sunshine we have!
good luck out there lookes like today and tommrrow will be big days, stay safe.
Did anyone see those tornadoes on Oklahoma yesterday!!?!! A few of them were massive!
I hope the boys get something better than a bunch of hail raining down on them in KS. You guys in MN have fun and be safe.
getting brighter out up here, sun is trying to come out and heat it up.
Strange, two moderate risk areas, but no tornado watches. Any inquiries as to why this has not happened?
SPC only thinks that KS may get hail....They may get a watch on the northern moderate area
I think they will come out later in the day they stated today was a better chance for hail but I expect that to change once things get going
Ari, the SPC/NWS don't issue Tornado watches 6-12 hours in adavance. Usually watches are posted 1-2hrs before initiation...but not always, sometimes watches are posted after the fact/after tornado's have already been occuring.
The SPC Convective outlook for day one is meant to be the "pre-emptive watch"(6-12hrs ahead of time) Showing the best areas for severe weather tornado's', hail, and winds.
Two new Mesoscale discussions point to possible activity and watches near the TX,OK, KS border and near the MO, KS, and OK borders on the east
dewpoint in Kansas City, Mo has reached 71. It feels like glue outside. I hope those storms in central Kansas can reach here this evening.
stay safe out chasing!
Tornada WATCH!!!!! finally some action for Liberal ks
Tornado Watch from the northern Texas panhandle through the Okalhoma panhandle into south central Kansas. Should be right where Reed is sitting once again.
Some of the same counties that got clobbered the other night.......Gotta love the Alley
Hadn't been in a Tornado Watch in a while.....
Does anyone know where there targeting, or where a good spot to start would be...im in liberal never seen a twister in person might be the best shot of the yr...for me at least
Drew have you ever chased before?
Nope just got a wild hair and an air card
Thanks, Ben. Good luck all with chasing today!
We are sitting in Phillipsburg, KS right now, waiting to see if we want to head into NE or wait it out in this area somewhere. Good luck today chasers! We were on the Oklahoma storms yesterday so hopefully we can have two lucky days in a row.
Drew if ya havent chased before its prolly a good idea you hooked up with someone who has. I havent chased before either and when I do I am going to chase with someone who has. Good example was a chaser north of Quinter KS almost got caught by a wedge while looking at another tornado. But if you do chase be safe.
Hey CindyLou and Doug! Looks like we are all waiting for some pretty good/severe weather here in KC! NWS page for Olathe (I think also the Pleasant Hill site) says dewpoint at 71º, humidity 65% and heat index at 89º! I agree with Doug - feels like "glue" outside! :D
Best tornado chance is in kansas nebraka 3,000 to 5,00 cape vorticity 50 kt shear and low level shear for strong tornados near kansas nebraska border where outflow is.
pds tornado watch kiiler tornados 3inch hail 80mph winds minnesota wisconsin!
Yes, finally others in KC who love weather! I am slooowly learning and have a nickname of StormCenterCindy! Although I am terrified of tornados I am completely facinated with them as well...kinda like rollercoasters. Have a grad party this afternoon outside and think I will put on an extra layer of deo on! I think tomorrow might be the best day for severe in Kc? Am in northland btw. Reed and fellow chasers - enjoy the long weekend and bring us back some footage (but not so close Mr. T!)
Cells popping in southeast Manitoba.
Should I go, or should I stay? The eternal question.
Forgot to add... I was in Manhattan Ks. Friday p.m. for a wedding. The KS State Troopers are out in FULL FORCE this weekend. Please watch your speed. My nephew is an officer and they typically do not pull over until going 8 mph over the speed limit. IF YOU HAVE OUT OF STATE TAGS...you better mind your p's and q's as they love to pull you over!
Looks like stream1 has a good chance of looking at the supercell near Scott City
I got a tornado on stream 1. Awesome job again.
tornado visible on ground this is strong to violent tornado possible strom on the outflow.
Nice!!!
Stream 1 is cutting out on me but it looks like the tornado is getting bigger.
In Ohio it may storm tomorrow, just two days in May with thunder so far.....boring.
Anyone else lose Stream 1?
Going in and out on stream 1 but stream 3 seems to have come to life.
Stream 1 cut out on me just as they stopped.... now I have stream 3, choppy though.....
I'm getting 1 of 2......the other 2 just disconnected.
Same here Ari....looked like Stream1 had one then they cut out...blah
Sorry, needed to be more specific. I meant that I am getting TVN and TVN 3, but TVN 1 and TVN 2 aren't showing up.
There are still some issues with the streams that are being worked out. There are data holes that can't be helped, but also, when they get very close to a circulation it tends to complicate things through interference and/or loss of signal strength. Those are also things that can't be helped. I think that those latter two are the issues we're seening the most today. There are still upgrades to come, though!

Whatever is going on with the streams im getting 3 right now and thats a big improvement. I know there are things out of your control but being able to see three is pretty darn good
TVN has a big wall cloud.

Where are you located in S. Manitoba?
Also, the reported confirmed Manitoba tornado was located very near my grandmothers house in Morris, Manitioba. Thank goodness ithe rotation just missed there!

Tornado 10 miles south of Sparta, Illinois.
Just took a look at live satellite imagery from Weather Underground, saw one large shaft in the Texas panhandle storm, I think it's the tornado there. Inquiries?
got tvn stream 1 on mozilla firefox they are in a nasty little area
The report says a wall cloud between Perry and Willisville in Illinois.
Any1 else lose all streams???
Yes I lost them also...
I have also just lost all the streams as well.
CNN is reporting this...
An apparent tornado toppled buildings in a central Iowa town, a dispatcher says, as twisters swept across the Midwest.
Just got back from the tracking the cell in southern Manitoba.
Saw a small funnel drop a couple of times, then it appeared to weaken. Since I have no mobile internet or nowcasters, I gave up and turned back...
Now I find out its produced and I'm pissed. I'm buying a laptop tomorrow. Never again will I miss one like that.
where were you Strike?
Yo Strike...that sucks the big time. I have a laptop but need to find out what is the best aircard that will work in the midwest. Heidi or one of the guys give some feedback on that one
Ok I have something to report from Brady, which was relayed to Lisa (SKGirl), which was relayed to me from her.
Brady was in a threatening region, which was apparently under an HP supercell. He cannot tell if he saw a tornado or not.
I'm sure he'll update further when he gets back.
SS's Ben has 1 on his cam
Hey Strike, when you buy a laptop tomorrow, I cannot stress this enough, BUY A MACBOOK! It comes pre-loaded with up to 160 GB of hard drive space, a 2.4 GHz processor, an Apple SuperDrive (reads CDs and DVDs), all for a minimum of $1099. Also, everyone, I'm very sorry if this is spamming or looks like advertising, just trying to give someone some advice. I am NOT a paid Apple consultant, just a Mac user, as I have stated before.
Or, Instead of wasting your money on overpriced hardware, buy an EeePC, which is only $400 US.
AndrewMN got that cone that tore through MN a while ago. Photo on the forum (click my name).
AllTel or AT&T should be good, Jason. Some people use Sprint but have trouble in some places. I think all of the streams are going to AllTel soon.
My Sony Vaio Laptop is pretty darn good for what I paid for It
storm talkin,
Out here in Hays KS.. been running these cells since 3 pm.. Lots of rain and some rotation here and there earlier... Got some insane video of c to g lightning strikes within close range of me.. The thunder from base to cloud was insane! spotted a few meager funnels trying to do it in the trego co area earlier, but no bueno.
Reed... Think I saw you guys out in NE hanging out on the north side of hwy 81 Yesterday.. When that storm first started the rotation was pretty good, but it just lost its punch.. Oh well.. fun 4 days of chasin.
Be back in early June as the things set up in my pre-planning.. Most likely in the SD/ND area..
Keep up the good work.. you guys are animals
Bck to Cali tomorrow... Miss my surfboards, the gal and my pup. Got the swell update and lookin forward to rippin up the horizintal tubes.. Ya..

Ari,
I agree that Macs are nice, as I just bought one, but in all honesty, it crashes more than my PC ever has...especially during video playback. It is a brand new unit also.
http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=512045 Here is what happened about 5 miles from my house today. Very sad.
Guys! If you join the forum, you can debate about computers all day in the "Anything Goes" area. (And really, I think it's a topic worth debating... but in the right place ;)
Thanks Heidi,
I was wondering when someone was goimg to say something.
Mr t
i would rather watch alberto post and post and post and post some more than look at one more comment about my !@#$ is better than yours. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Could anyone give me information about Cedar Rapids, IA and the tornado warning issued.
yea...well "Little alberto is obsessed with big "Alberto" juding by him pretending to be the "Alberto" It subtle but the two are different
Martha - Since Cedar Rapids, IA is tornado warned and sirens are going off - assume it is a real thing and get downstairs or to your shelter!
Can you listen to your local news - I'm sure they are covering it non-stop because I see 2 tornado warnings in Cedar Rapids - especially if you are on the north side, and 2 more tornado warnings to the SE - moving NEE towards southern Cedar Rapids and into Iowa City. TAKE COVER!!!
no i am in Kansas my parents are up in Cedar Rapids, IA watching my cousin play baseball.
Their hotel manager said the sirens were going off just to warn them of a thunderstorm. They are in the hallway of the lowest floor now.
i was just watching the weather channel.com and got worried.
It's the real deal....dangerous
Martha - all tornado warnings should be taken seriously, so I'm glad your folks took cover.
Here is the link to the Quad Cities, IA Radar which best shows the now 3 tornado warnings around that area. It's a loop, so just keep refreshing your browser every few minutes to see how the storms are progressing:
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?product=NCR&rid=dvn&loop=yes
Also, here is a link to the Cedar Rapids, IA Live TV Coverage of these storms - they will tell you about what's going on also:
http://www.kcrg.com/
I'm sure everything will be fine. :)
thank you so much! i really appreciate it. I wasn't getting much info from the weather channel except that there was a tornado warning.
You're welcome! Looks like the only tornado warning left in that area is NE of Cedar Rapids.
In KC there were tornado watches all around the area which were just now cancelled. Although, just west of Wichita there are several tornado warnings on a cell moving due east just south of Eureka - moving towards Chanute, KS if it holds together.
See everybody tomorrow!
Parkersburg, IA heaviest hit yesterday...5 deaths..I saw minor rotation here in Cedar Falls. Other tornadoes east of here. Maybe EF-3 in Parkersburg?
