Here is video from TornadoVideos.net Stream 3 yesterday (Don and Nicole Guiliano, Dave Demko, and John Esterheld), from the storm in Northwest Kansas that produced several amazing tornadoes. They were within 1/2 mile of a large cone, and also documented a photogenic elephant trunk. We were on a storm further south, and saw 3-4 tornadoes, and were actually inside a large tornadic circulation with 100 mph winds. The roof of a barn was ripped off about 1/4 mile from our location - unfortunately my hand held cam missed this, but our dashboard camera caught everything (you can see it on Storm Chasers on Discovery this fall!) I'd post it if it was on my camcorder..
Today looks even more interesting than yesterday for tornadoes, with more backed 850 mb flow which will be even more favorable for these northerly storm motions. We're targeting an area just east of Garden City/Dodge City today... We're always working out bugs with the live streaming system, so things should run much more smoothly.

Go get em Reed....Good catch yesterday. I hope the Northernly Flow SC's fly up grass in your lens....Listen to it ROAR!
The crazy guy from OK is back after is lunch experience. Let's get our game faces on ladies and gentleman.. and alberto..
Spent half my lunch watching the presser from Windsor, CO. You would think that the entire town was blown away into Montana. It only looked like EF3 damage, but they are trying to make it seem worse than that. Tornadoes suck, but these people need to remember that Greensburg happened last year and never had an extensive presser like this garbage I was watching.
High Risk T-minus 1 hour...
Joe
"This is what we call rapid rotation." ROFLMAO
Post 3 or 4... Thanks Reed for the video!!!
Hangin out in Colby KS right now. Probably going to shoot up to Ogallala, NE... Good low level moisture moving pretty rapidly under the cell structure attm...
Could be a bit warmer.. we see what SPC shows and latest developments as they unfold I'm sure very soon... jc
I dont understand why west ok is only slight! RUC is projecting cape values exceeding 8000 j/kg between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Both the 0-3 and 0-1 helcities are amazing and the lift is exceeding -11...can anyone tell me why?
Ahh...it must be the cap...those storms are going to be insane around Woodward if they do blow tonight!
Yeah I was aksing myself the same thing Ez.
I think a moderate risk needs to be issued for western Oklahoma and possibly central. Those CAPES are scary high, and the helicities are major.
The CAP also looks to weaken along and east of the dry line.
AAAAAAAAA!!
Not sure if you've seen this yet, but here is some footage from the Tornado in California Yesterday, not a bad looking one:

Wish I had been there!
horrible video.
:-D
Live stream is back looking good on IE. Can see the tracker plus up to 5 streams. Good work guys
Saw my first virtual tornado yesterday on SScom. Hope you guyes can beat it today. Good luck!
I saw them drive through that circulation yesterday on the stream. on Severstudios chat i was like "TVN has got a really low wall cloud next to them - oh shoot - they just went right under it!" - it was awesome - it looked like you could touch the clouds they were so close. I think they got a lot more footage as well. I was watching the cam and it showed Reed / camera man watching this one funnel, it kept going up a down. There was so much tornadic activity yesterday.
And early this evening and tonight is supposed to be the big tornado outbreak! Much like may 4 and 5 of last year. Model forcasts are looking extream!
Hey all,
Its looking pretty interesting in Atwood KS as of 2:15pm.
Really good cell forming between Colby and here..
no warnings here yet.. Hope this one builds...
j
PDS watch just issued for western KS!!!
I'm chasing today, but I can't get free until 4:15, so I'm going to blast north as far as possible. I probably will be one of the few in western Oklahoma today, but I really wish I could make it to Kansas.
WOO! OUTBREAK TIME. Can't wait to see what forms today. Also, did anyone see the video closest to the top of the page? WILD man!!
Whoops! Sorry David, didn't read your post before I posted.
SPC stayed with a moderate risk on this one. Luckily I managed to be able to get out by 3:30. Still late, but better than 4:15!

TVN has huge tornado on it right now!

huge tornado on matt granthams cam. holy crap!
Chasers on I70 driving wrong way to avoid tornado near Quinter..
OMG really!
We got a co-worker in Quinter right now looking to re-position to Utica for this 75-80 DB monster coming from the S.
Nice sliding. Looked like you guys were on ice. Someone needs to have a chat with the VW owner. Not the car I would be caught in out there.
I cant wait to see the big tornado everyone has caught today on video...i was out running errands......What an outbreak!!!

Yeah I can't see any right now. I use Safari 3.1.1 and am running OS Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11.
WE just saw an incredible tornado on the storm south of the one that produced the wedge.
It looked like the historic cordell tornado.. a thick rope that was horizontal at the top and planted in the ground with very strong motion.
Now we're heading to the southern cell heading toward NEss co. the streaming was working and then we lost data right before the tornado!! I NEED MOBILE SATELLITE INTERNET!!!!! does anyone have $1000 per day to make this happen a;lkdfj;alksdjf
Ari I was using my laptop which had IE on it and was getting zilch then i switched to my desktop which has firefox and I'm getting at least Reed and crew's stream
Reed, I will make some phone calls. ;)
Wow these storm chasers have a large tornado on the ground. It's geting rain wrapped. Reed is this the cell you were talking about?
http://www.severestudios.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?username=thunderstorm.team&uid=41
I would think Discovery Channel has deep pockets??????lol
the discovery channel wants you to watch their show, not the stream!!! stormchasers is where their money is going, not on live streams.
That storm near ness city is maxing out. 90- 80+ knots of shear. Monster supersell
You know I'm surprised onbody has seen the tornado warned supercell about to hit greensburg. Its not dead on but the interesting part of the cell will hit Greensburg. Its about to hook and I think put down a tornado if it already hasnt.
Looks like a storm merger on the Greensburg cell. Lets see what becomes of it.
Yeah, there seems to be very large tornado in that area, given the large area that's the same in the comparison of the Base and Storm Velocity winds. Isn't that supposed to be representive of a large rotation?
That cell near Kiowa county is bowing out and still has rotation.
Any chasers on the kiowa county storm please keep us updated, I have family in Greensburg, and also up in Kinsley. Hope if it does something its over open country
matyt Grantham is getting fleeting little tornadoes on SS right now
wedge tornado headed for greensberg 1.5 mile wide if bigger.
Chasers reporting large very dnagerous tornado dr.greg forbes says could be as strtong as last year.
another large tornado near sw of hays kansas do they have any chasers on that cell tornado warned also for trego ellis counties as well
holy crap that cell south of Greensburg is textbook. And big. How long has it been showing the hook for?
For about 20 min
According to the Dodge City Weather Service, Ellis is directly in the path of the tornado. LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... CEDAR BLUFF... OGALLAH... RIGA... ELLIS... YOCEMENTO... RURAL RESIDENCES OF EASTERN TREGO... ELLIS...NORTHEASTERN NESS AND NORTHWESTERN RUSH COUNTIES.
IN ADDITION TO THE TORNADO...THIS STORM IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GOLF BALL SIZE HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.
THE TOWN OF ELLIS IS IN THE PATH OF THIS TORNADO. PLEASE SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY.
Could get ugly.
Matt Grantham chase in SS is on the Ellis tornado, I think; hard to see cause it is so dark
Forgive me for posting so much all of a sudden.
Alberto, is it confirmed that it is an EF5?
looks like the cell in N OK approaching KS has spewed out a couple of tornados already. Too bad it'll be dark by the time any of the chasers reach it.
I am in Wichita ks and I feel so bad for the people in GreensburgM the weather stattions are telling them to be ready for another direct hit. God help them
Just heard this on the Weather Channel. Guys, this sounds really sentimental, but there was just a freakin miracle in Greensburg. The tornado lifted of the ground just before it hit the town itself. There was still some damage and possible injuries, but from what I heard the brunt of the blow was avoided.

Sorry for two huge posts!!! :-(
Okay, this is straight from the KSN weather spotters. The tornado near Greensburg missed the town by 3 miles to the east. There is slight damage to the rural part of Greensburg and they are without power.
Power still on in Greensburg, no damage in town, minor damage 3 miles west of town. I haven't talked to my family yet, granpa is a county commissoner so I am sure he is really busy
We can confirm the tornado just missed Greensburg...
It was a cone scraping the ground with about a 100 mph RFD.. no damage for sure. It was over open farmland just to the northeast..
Oh, thank god! I thought the town was gonna get plowed again.
Are the Tornadovideos.net team heading towards the possible tornado near Greensburg?
DAMMAGE IN ELLIS COUNTY KANSAS tractor trailor was flipped over greensburg is in the dark
no power
I see the 4 other streams are down, but the main TVN one is working. I just got home - are they still chasing the tornado mentioned or are they calling it a night?
LOL once again Alberto talking out of his rear. 1.5 mile wide? EF5? Don't post anything that isn't confirmed... But there was a tornado confirmed near greensburg. It missed though, thank god. But Alberto, please, stop posting nonsense here.
Thanks for the Greensburg update Reed, its good to know they are ok, I was worried.
You guys on that storm?I hear Trousdale may get hit, confirmed tornado on the ground after it passed greensburg.
Weather Ch made a reference to Ellis, Ks and some significant damage. Anyone hear anything
i havent yet owen i know on 70 there was a tractor tralier flipped over thats all bout all i heard Jim cantore reported it
another reported tornado on the ground near ellis county kansas just go that from TWC
Ksn reporting large tornado on the ground just near Trousdale, also St John and Macksville might be in danger.
New storm near protection, might end up in the greensburg area later
Three discrete supercells east of that squall line!
Extrodinary!
KSN reportiing 3 miles south of Trousdale 2 tornados on the ground at the same time. Moving NE at 30.
2 naders on the ground in trusdale ks
That cell that just passed over Trousdale had a TVS of 156 knts. It's 146 knts now.
Other towns after the greensburg kansas tornado pushed through there last year to get hit again.Where strong hook ecko and i can see a bowl where this very large wedge strong tornado is 3 other stroms are laso tornado producing large tornados.Helicty cape shear are incredible but no hgih risk today. Why?
omg greenburg got so lucky there
anybody that lives in maxwell ks take cover now big one on the ground rooks county ks
also beaver county ok has a nader on the ground as well
sorry...but what was that mass of words supposed to mean?
1/2 mile tornado in kansas stafford conty ef3 to ef5 my predictions.
1.5 mile wide tornado 6 miles north of hopefull. can you say EF5???
correction on location of 1/2 tornado its in maxville ks
Sorry half mile my bad.
wow tonight sounds as if it is greensburg outbreak all ready is it high risk today?
NWS is just reporting a tornado has moved through the town of Protection... Significant damage reported.
I'm watching local coverage from KAKE News in Wichita.
Live streaming video is at KSN
http://data.ksn.com/video/radarstream.html
I posted this link on the forum hours ago, by the way.
alot of damage in protection. and some one recording feed like cors did for greensburg outbreak olf last year?
Alberto don't jump to conclusions... There is no way that YOU know the tornado is an EF5...
Let the NWS survey teams make that call...
these tornados especially at night are scaring me hope they get into the fields i hope.WE don't want another greensburg.
Greensburg isnt safe yet. Nice supercell heading right at Greensburg.
And Alberto isnt passed your bed time yet?? :)
Alberto, I am moderating this blog. You are about to get banned (AGAIN - remember??) if you don't stop talking about towns getting wiped off the map and EF-5s.
Everyone else, stop talking to Alberto.
hey im ok KAKE TV website were do i listen to live feed????
Sawyer looks to be under the gun as we speak
im using ksn guy is pretty good http://video.ksn.com/video/livestream.asx
the live feed is at KSN. I don't think KAKE has one.
http://data.ksn.com/video/radarstream.html
KSN's chief is getting very emotional during the break.
About an hour or so ago, there was a cell between the squall line and one of the supercells that was moving really fast. I guesstimated it's speed using a map of Kansas, and I think it was moving nearly 80mph.
Good News!
Looks like the circulation is going to move to the SE of Greensburg.
Ya huge squall line about to move through Westen Kansas dont know if it will kill the supercells that are currenlty in that area.
Man what a day. I probably have saved 55 radar images today. Amazing data for the future i hope.
thanks justin for the feed am watching it now
If there is sound and no video does that mean they are on break?
I wouldn't count on the storm moving SE of Greensburg, it's going to be another hit or miss, it's moving more North now. It's the storm that did severe damage in Protection.
couplet aimed right at greensburg
Looks like it is moving more towards Haviland, dang I drove a busload of kids through there yesterday!
large tornado reported in hudson kansas by storm spotters
who has damage reports? I'm hearing severe damage in Protection as well as injuries.
looks like protection took a direct hit KDOT transportation wants to go thru there they seee debris all over the place
Wow what a day guys and gals. Many strong tornadoes today i have over 65 radar images and all that good stuff.
Tomorrow i will have a recap of all todays action on my website. Good night everybody.
Storms on the south side of the line we were hoping would overtake the supercells, appear to be going supercellular themselves... Not good.
The line appears to be breaking up into individual cells.
The night is far from over.
welll im calling it a night ill be back tommorow to review stuff on here from the storms
one tired stormchaser here
goodnight everyone happy chasing dreams
David drummond on large wedge tornado in kingman county can't see it but damage is visible.Very destructive tornado shear markers are incredible.
Another stellar day..
Just got back from storms in Gove Co, Sheridan co, and then Trego co.. Saw so much rotation and tornadoes from cell to cell... Wow !!! The last cell in Quinter.. whoa !!!
I just am in awe of these past 2 days.. Many memories for this Cali Kid. So tired.. don[t know if I have it in me for another day.. We'll have to see what a good night of sleep does.
Sounds like the TVN team scored on the southern end. Great stuff. Really hope the Greensburg area got spared of damage.
Good night all..
Our pour weather guys in wichita are tired but this is not even close to being over
The storm in Kingman county has a spectacular hook echo...
Almost a total "doughnut hole"!!!
Matt... Can you post a link to your website??? Thnx in advance.
The storm report.com click live video to watch the tornado warned intense supercell capable of strong to violent long tracking twisters.
I'm back finally! Jetmore is always a magnet for wall clouds... I saw several versions of the same one while on the road this evening. If I had more time and money, I would've shot south towards Coldwater and Protection, to see what it's like there. My chase was cut short as it
Now, possibility of a tornado has diminished in Reno County. It's bowing out, and becoming a derecho event. Residents of Hutchinson should still seek shelter, just in case.
"My chase was cut short by the terrible lighting, and as late as it was, I needed to get home."
Sorry, I didn't finish that. ;)
yea pretty nice squall line plowing through KS and OK. hey AJ you think the storms are mostly outflow now? and what classifies this as a derecho event...actuallly me was wondering.
Hey Cors! Long time no talk. I'm thinking that they're mostly outflow now... they're plenty strong, but they're becoming HP cells, and starting to bow out. Straight-line winds will become the problem now. They might keep the tornado warnings just to emphasize how dangerous this storm is, but I'm not sure...
The bow echo south of Kingman is quite impressive.
The main threat now is strait line winds. I agree AJ, this is becoming quite a Derecho event. Although, with how impressive these bow echos look, i wouldnt rule out the occasional gustnado.
Okay, they've gotten rid of the tornado warnings for the state, and now it's all severe t-storm warnings. They are still very strong storms, so please exercise caution! There will be a lot of damage estimates for roofs and windows later, because of the straight-line winds.
Ohh, don't rule out the occasional gustnado. We might hear about those as tornadoes at first, though, because the public might report one as a tornado. Anything but tornadoes are possible now.
me like gustnadoes I saw like 7 next to eachother in Texas. hey AJ do you agree Texas is the ultimate chase state. although arkensas has the most tornadoes.
yo AJ drop by for a sec at: http://insaneweather.com/
Hmm... I'm partial to Kansas, because I know my way around. haha. I love chasing in Texas, for sheer size and magnitude of the storms, and for the people along the way. And I don't know if Arkansas has had the most tornadoes this year or not...
I totally busted today because I couldn't make it to Kansas, So I was stuck watching towers rise and fall in Oklahoma.
I love chasing in Texas Cors, but I've lived here my whole life so I'm biased :)
Has anyone noticed that the GFS is showing a tropical system landfalling near New Orleans in the first week of June?
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/00/index_pcp_l_loop.shtml
Long way off, but it has been consistent with this...
yeah kansas looked insane today ,im sure reed caught one. texas has such a bad rep in europe but having been there multiple times I gotta say that reputation is completely off the mark. It has incredible nature and is really modern. I remember watching the windturbines with lightning in the background at night ,it was one of the most awesome sights ive ever seen.
Past 2 days there were so many tornados lots of them were major tornados.Today threat goes east now 10% tornado chance but cape near 4,000 moist boundary layer strong vertical and low level shear and increaing with low level jet near triple point.Another concern its impacting more populated areas and still possible strong long tracking tornados spc not sure just of coverage.Any of you chasing.
From north texas to south dakota there is a chance of tornados along the dryline. Anywhere where storms fire deep layer vertical shear is suffiant for intense supercells. Also from last night there are outflows from the mcs which will enhance low level shear and tornado threat. Greatest threat would be for tornados from nebraska to kansas where atleast mid 60 dew points lapse rates diabetic heating will lead to 3,000 to 4,200 cape on forcast sounding with shear in all levels increaing if storms could sustain into late afternoon evening when 55kt low level jet provides tornado boost i think we need moderate risks if not high risk in kansas nebraska.
Did anyone see what happened to yesterdays storm reports on SPC ? It was showing "0" reports for 5-23 as of this morning.. Last night it was showing 54 reports..
Got some great video of the large wedge in Sheridan Co.. This wedge had great contrast.. It then went into a stovepipe tornado before dissapating. I did see an official spotter on his radio.. I am sure this was reported.. There was another touchdown as well.. Gove Co was also amazing! One of my friends from Greensburg called and said the town of Protection was hit hard... Can anyone verify this?
This was the most amazing day for storms.. Looks like east central Neb for today... Just do not know if it'll be worth it after all the witnessed rotation and tornado activity the past 2 days.. Ya Kansas !!!
Jc
SPC has the reports back up. I mentioned on one of the posts yesterday about 5/22 and 5/23 being deja vu of 5-4 and 5-5 of 07 and then I looked on here and I see that Greensburg KS almost got hit again....eeire I tell ya
Jason... Its the season for sure.. But last year it was more central KS..
The day Greensburg got hit-There was only 33 total reports.. The following day there was 111 reports. It is cool to research history and the weather patterns that occured in that time as well as all major severe outbreaks.
I always make notes and study this stuff.. It does pay off as to when I am here as I feel very fortunate as I place my whereabouts in scoring position with a 90% ratio. And the learning process continues... Nature always throws us unexpected curves.
As a So Cal resident, I need to be precise in my planning, or it can be very expensive for my travel and such. As to you people that live here have a good advantage to score good events on a regular basis. I am thankful for what I have experienced everytime I travel here.. I do have a pretty unique pre-planning agenda that seems to work well.
Really enjoy the people I have met and will continue to travel here as these severe events align with my pre-planning process..
Thanks for the update on the reports back up.. I did see the Sheridan Co siteings noted.
Heading towards central/east NE.. If it does not pan out.. I will chill out and enjoy the memories of the past 2 days.. jc
Jc,
I hear you on the pre-planning and travel issue. I have the same problem. I live just north of Detroit and our season isnt even near yet. Im looking forward to our time and I am planning a trip out to the Plains within the next year or so.
Good luck today!
