As a strong vort max begins to move out of the Rocky Mountain region today, wind shear and instability will be sufficient for intense supercells with the likelihood of producing tornadoes. 40 knots at 850 mb, and ENE-ly storm motions will combine to create perfect storm relative winds for strong tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a moderate risk for today, with a hatched area for EF2-EF5 tornadoes. Tomorrow looks like a historic outbreak, so we'll be making a two-day chase out of this. We'll be using three live streaming vehicles today, and we're continue improving our setup, so hopefully we'll have more continuous live video..

Just tell Joel to not get stuck in those North Texas ditches!! GOOD LUCK! Can't wait to see the live stream later on today.....I am projecting an early evening event for today....5pm-8pm Gerb......IO
Hey guys hope you get something. Looking at GRLevel3 now and things are looking pretty good. Good luck. I'll try to catch this streaming today unless I go with Dean then I'll be right there! :)
Thanks Heath I was waiting on a response to the O-H!
Fairfield county Ohio is cloudy with a little rain but still mild at 63 strong storms possible by Friday.
Good luck Reed and co looks like some Texas hailers this morning hopefully the atmosphere can recover from all the blow off and provide you with some serious viewing pleasure.
If you guys can get this streaming to work properly, you'll have a lifetime viewer on this end.
Just try not to forget about us little people when you get the big tv money. haha
Good luck everyone.
I hope the streams can stay up being as you are in a very unstable data area for todays events.
P.s. - Please dont TV (Dumb contracts) get in the way of providing your site with updated info/streaming...be ashame to get the streaming ability and not be able to due to Dumb Contracts.
Is the stream on? or no
Stay safe, sending you all my luck!!! (though I dont really know how much that is haha)
Wishing i was back home in denton county.
We keep losing you guys.
HISTORIC OUTBREAK?!
Those words alone send shivers down my spine...
good lyuck on your 2 day chase!
I know Jon, it's not gonna be good, that's fur sure...
IMO, it'll start in AR and get pretty strong there, but I think it'll get stronger in TN, we haven't had any other t-storms or anything go through, and we've had 60+ degree dews for the last few days, but arkansas had storms go through last night, and their dews are in the 58-60ish range
Davey Holder and I are once again on Stream 3. (No Deaner though..saddenz). We got a semi-late start due to some tech issues, but we're all set up for streaming once our connection is solid. (We're in the Arbuckles now, so it's a little flaky.)
If the connection stays solid, I hope we can get some more great shots of storm structure like we did Monday. And then some!!!

whats this TV business?
I wasn't serious about the tv thing. Everyone just chill.
Stream is up and down for #3...trying to keep an eye on it and keep it up as much as possible. Nothing interesting for us yet, still racing west on I20 towards Abilene.
Check out the wall cloud on stream 1...looks like it could drop!
I think I saw a touchdown!!!!
I think so to Jake, saw a small cloud of dust...things are heating up! Be safe everyone!
Jake, if you are referring to Stream 1, I saw what you are talking about but I think that it was just hazing from the camera/lens
stream 3 isnt working for me now. right when the storm becomes tornado warned :/
Nice clear slot on that storm though.
Who's the hot chick in Stream 1??? Will you marry me?
it was stream 1 that wasnt working, not 3
I cant see the feed on any of them
Gah!!! Right when things were getting good.
yeah same here. just when it was getting interesting.
I know and i've refreshed my browser like 10 times already!
Now it's happening, possible outbreak is unfolding. Stay safe!
The streams are not working and now I see this just posted by the NWS:
"AT 324 PM CDT...TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A TORNADO. THIS
TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR STITH...OR 13 MILES WEST OF ABILENE...MOVING
NORTHEAST AT 33 MPH."
Hope it comes back soon
Man I think they might have got one.
The warning says train weather spotters reported a tornado. Its the same cell that Reed and co. are on. so hopefully that they got one.
The stream of Reed and Joel's team working again...
I just talked to Reed, he saw the brief tornado that was reported, and is about to get on the storm south of Abilene.
Look at the tower cam loop in abiline!
http://www.ktxs.com/weather/towercam_loop.html
There was a light show were I live here in McKinney,Tx and it was cool.....
Tornado reported on the ground just south of Breckenridge, TX... about to smash into the town, supposedly.
Hopefully they are on this storm, perfect hook echo on radar right now too:

Hey guys just wanted to wish you luck and still waiting for that tour call.
Looks like Reed gets his first big 'Nado of the year!
Awesome!
I'll be out and about tomorrow in Illinois, hoping for some action
Reed's phone called me on accident and all I heard was "it's coming close" in the background.
^scary JY.. another touchdown ..
Work for a station in Dallas/Fort Worth - trying to reach Reed for live phoner!!! Anyone know of another number?? His cell's going straight to voicemail!!
oh man, hopefully he's okay..
I just got off the phone with Reed and he wanted me to post here that he just saw the tornado near Breckenridge. He said that it was a VERY strong tornado and was about a hundred yards from it when it formed.
Reed. He films tornados from close range. Joel takes him there.
:D
Man gotta fell for the people in Breckenridge. I am almost speechless just looking at radar images.
Graford likely the next target - looks to be reorganizing...
video of damage from Breckenridge - www.cbs11tv.com
Storm that spawned a tornado is crossing into Denton County
Reed wanted me to tell everyone that he lost his phone while picking up hailstones. If you need to reach him, call Joel.
Hate it when that happens.
Severestudios.com feed reliability had been a lot better than Tornadovideos so far. Wonder what it is?
the town of Sherman is next under the gun. Man this cell has been long lived. I have about 16 radar shots saved from this event and more to come. Hoping 25-35 images.
Sadly its good for me to learn what to look for in radar. The things we learn from such destruction. And i have a feeling tomorrow could be worse.
Anyone know if Reed dropped that slab of concrete with small camera attached in front of that tornado? From comments here it seems he was pretty close to it.
Yes he dropped the concrete slab! Not sure what happened though.
Correction. He was trying to drop it when he was getting hit by 100 mph winds.
Today was great for me, I saw a huge wedge tornado just north of abilence, After the tornado passed i got to do damage surveys to find alot of homes destroyed.
Reed's phone interview with CBS 11 in Dallas: http://cbs11tv.com/video/?id=27454@ktvt.dayport.com
Need better feed/tracker/stream reliability! You can't leave us hanging like you did today! Too much anxiety!! :) lol...
so should i be seeing video or is it down?
Hi everyone! Looks very "active" today...what did I missed??
looks like reed intercepted 2 tornado's one from i think 100 yards away and also he lost his cell phone while tryin to get hail
Great!!! Didn't he lost a cell phone last year too???
Great!!! Didn't he lost a cell phone last year too???
I followed that storm for about 2 hours, but never got into position to see the tornado. I was late getting out, and traffic leaving DFW was bumper to bumper. Plus once we got there, we had to drive around some of the damage.
The flooding was insane. Even the high spots on the roads were covered. Lots of cars had slid off, some chasers, and we even had some scary moments.
Yes he lost his cell phone last year too. This one wasn't cheap.
...phone companies must love him... lol
yep he did lose his phone last year to on the ellis county tornado which gotta stink
I hope they had a great chase!!!
What for tomorrow???

On that link that JY posted: "Man describes being 100 yards away from tornado."
In other news:
Man (Steven Spielberg) describes making movies.
Man (George Stephanopoulos) describes global politics.
Man (Dick Vitale) describes college basketball.
another tornado watch is coming out...
that watch area is huge!
wow! tornado watch until 6 am!!! long night to come!
...to bad I have to go sleep...good night everyone and stay safe!
Yeah I told our web team to change "man" to "Tornadovideos.net chaser, Reed Timmer" but they haven't yet. I'm working on it! hahaha
Turned out to be an incredibly exciting chase day. Reed, Chris, and I got on the storm SW of Abilene and saw the first spin up reported. It lasted no more than a couple of seconds but was the first tornado of the day. We continued following the storm as it wrapped up northeast of Abilene and looked like it might do something big, until the storm to the south began to interfere with it.
At this time we decided to get on the southern storm. This was tricky with the sparse road network in the area. We dove south to I-20 and blasted east then north to Breckenridge. As we approached Breckenridge from the south, we could see an obvious occlusion to our west that was completely wrapped in rain. Visibility into the mass was zero, and as it turns out, there was a damaging tornado in there. This tornado moved across the southern portion of Breckenridge causing significant damage. We never were able to see this one due to the precip, however, approximately 5 miles east of town the storm began to wrap up again and produced another rain wrapped tornado that developed less than a mile to our southwest and moved over us as we shot east trying to stay out of danger. Our winds likely topped out in the 100 mph range. We paralleled the storm as long as we could watching a bowl shaped funnel with intermittent vortices move away from us to the north. The storm did not produce any more tornadoes, at least any visible to us. We did encounter tennis ball sized hail, and Reed again lost his cell phone as he tried to gather some of the larger stones.
We are now headed back to Norman for a couple of hours of sleep. Will be heading toward NE Arkansas around 5 am for what looks to be a significant tornado outbreak across eastern AR and MO.
I'm noticing that the GFS doesn't show very much as far as any storms go in our near future. Anyone else notice this? How long could this weather pattern last?
Holy shite! Look what's coming toward the DFW area now!!! Round 2 coming strong....
We got our first tornadoes of the year today as well. We were about 1/4 of a mile away from the very first breif spinups sw of Abilene. There were about 3 spinups one of which we could see the tube into the cloud base. We were streaming video through this whole time, although we still had trouble with data today, after abilene we hardly had internet, so sorry about shutting it down. Then south of Breakenridge, just about a mile or less to our east, we could see the rain curtains wrapping and drove into the damage path in Breakenridge. We were one of the first to come up on an overturned semi, luckily we could see emergency vehicles coming, and the driver was out of the truck. Then on the east side of town we came across several damaged homes that I would guess was strong EF-1 or EF-2 damage. But we got cut off because of the damage and had to play catch up the rest of the day.
I have a question:
Can the night vision goggle seeing a tornado at night?
Hi There
I have reinstall my windows media player but see no video on my pc. can anyone help me.
Greetings from the Netherlands
Massive storms approaching. I'm thinking about evac'ing out of the mobile home.
Excellent DFW radar imagery here:
http://kxas.weatherplus.com/interactiveradar/index.html
Not tornadic after all. 60-70mph winds, nickle size hail, my moble home can handle that...hopefully. Should be here in my neck of the woods (Joshua, Tx) in the next 30-60 min. ;)
Reed I think we saw you guys-or at least your SUV on that main storm that was NE of abilene...i thnk you were booking it at 100!!! we ended up getting caught in, what we think was a weak rain-wrapped tornado that almost flipped us over...on the SPC report, News 5 reported a possible tornado touchdown...we saw their weather "hummer" and others speeding towards a significant hail core and were wondering why they would do that! We turned around and then had about 30-46 seconds of total mayhem! given the simultaneous, different directions of the wind...branches and leaves flying all around us and the obvious fact that we saw a circulation come right towards us heading almost due east...we think it is safe to say that this was not a microburst...we wish we could have clocked the winds or even videotape it but it was such a terrifying, yet exciting experience that we were just awestruck...we ended up gunning it through there because we were afraid of being sucked up and somehow made it out. anyway we concluded that we were fortunate to make it with no inury or damge to our vehicle! next time well be using wireless with a good program. we learned our lesson i think.
two tornado warnings in Dallas!!!
Bob, I was in one of those warnings! We just got power back. I woke up around 3:50 with no power, winds gusting extremely high, pouring rain, and sure enough, tornado sirens. Nothing happened that I know of, but the winds were higher than I have ever seen (Including the May 2nd DFW derecho last year!)
For the second time in a week I nearly got hit by a small tornado. I watched a tornado go through a small neighborhood west of Abilene (2 NE of Tye). I couldnt see a funnel, but there was fast rotation and a good size debris cloud. I got slammed by rain curtains and lost visual soon after. There was a little bit of damage like trash cans blow into the street and I saw a twisted remains of a car port that was laid across the road. Got behind the storm and gave up, hoping for more stuff to the west but it didnt happen.
While you were sleeping...

Damage reports from strong scary front that moved through here in DFW between 3:00 - 4:00am this morning. Oh What A Night!!! Tornado Sirens & all...Longggg scary night! Reported 65 - 70mph Sustained Gusts, School closings, Power Outages, Roof Collapses, Trees down!
Stay Safe everyone!
looking at the radar again, it seems right as the squall line moved through DFW it got a bulge consistent with a derecho. I'm no expert, but someone else tell me what they think?
