Here is the video of another crazy hail storm from 2008. This one was with a supercell that tracked from through Mineral Well, Weatherford, and DFW, TX yesterday afternoon and evening. We were pummeled by horizontal tennis ball size hail for several minutes, cracking our wind shield completely and putting craters in the car.

WOW! Great footage. It looked like an ice storm! lol. I have not seen hail like that in YEARS!
Try a technique of collecting hail stones like those of fishermen who use cast nets. That way you get the samples without pain. That is some extreme hail for sure.
2 awsome hailstorms in 1 month good job guys!! I'm a pretty big fan of hail myself! Also, Reed, would you mind sending a few of those hailstorms up here? My SDS is getting pretty bad and it sucks to live in Iowa! :)
why did the SPC take away the day 4-5 severe?!

why did the SPC take away the day 4-5 severe?!
I saw that to Bob, I think there are 2 many inconsistencies with regards to the placement and timing of the fronts, amount of instability etc. I'm pretty sure a risk area will be outlined by tomorro for portions of the plains and another risk area outlined in the 4 to 8 day area also for the plains and midwest.
Wow, nice video. Gotta love that hail!
Man that is awesome. Looks like you guys were driving through a snow/ice storm in the middle and the end of the video.
I've only exprienced hail a couple times in my life and once when i was outside. Lucky it wasnt huge hail for me
Amazing! Nice footage guys! It really looks like a snowstorm. Do you have pictures of the damage it did (like on your car)? Maybe you should wear an helmet... lol What do you do after that with your cars? Body shops must be like a "war zone" !
Hey! I did not know that you were with the discovery team! I missed that information... It's really great!!! Congrats!
AWESOME! That's some big-time hail footage! And, at least you guys didn't end up like Val Castor did that one time (not sure when this was made):

I think this tv.net hailstorm vid., along with this one ^^ are the two best hailstorm vids I've seen!
Great hailstorm!!!! I've only witnessed a windshield being broken by a rock lol. Even one time there was this lawnmower guy mowing our neighbor's yard and a rock flew out from the lawnmower and hit my mom's kitchen window haha.
Great vid guys! lol, it's actually on Weather.com too. heh, maybe you guys should start putting little white TV.net "tornadoes" for every new windshield you have to get ;)
I forgot about this one from South Dakota last summer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUG_apbrnrs
Hailstorms really are awesome. If you've never seen baseball-sized hail, you are missing out. I still have some in my freezer from Sept. '06. :D
That's got to be some incredible footage for Discovery, too!
Verii Najzzz.
Very nice video Reed....loved it.
I think that's the point where you should turn around, reed! I hope none of you get a concussion from this anytime! You must like getting new auto parts!
whoa wtf... I wouldnt wanna be caught walking in that I tell ya that looked dangerous.
Wow, nice hail Reed. It's amazing because those are like the same pictures from when you were live streaming. And we were able to watch it live.
And right now in seattle, it is extreamly convective. We just had a snow, hail storm pass. I got some nice pics of the clouds shooting up and then comming over us. There is also extream shear over my house as well. The low level winds are moving like 80 miles an hour to the south, while the uperconvection is moving to the north. I am going to chase anystorm that forms near my house. right now, it's snowing while its blazing sunshine. Extreamly wierd.
Hey Reed I have a question that I've wanted to ask you for a while now.
How many windshields have you been through since you started chasing?
Always wanted to how that I dont know why.
It is a real snowstorm Just to my south here in Alberta.
4 day of snow will bury us under more than a foot of snow.
and we will be breaking records day after day until the 25th
Record we may set or break:
Most consecutive days of snow for April
Most consecutive days with record low temps
Most consecutive days with highs below freezing for April
Most snow fall ever for April in some areas
highest one day snowfall for April.
So lets just say the weather sucks big time here.

Man i would love to go down there. But I might be snowed in for a week, sigh
Omg Reed, that video was so worth the wait!!! :D . I am sure I will watch it many times hehe. That would be SO exciting.
We've gotten hailstorms like that in Saskatchewan, I've just never witnessed them. Usually when they get bad, the town gets reported at 100% damaged.
The poor chevy!!
Hey Matt...We've probably destroyed around 5 windshields, but most of them are from the last few years. Before 2006, we always tried to get our windshield destroyed but could never make it happen!
Hiedi , that link tried to download something to my pc . just a warning . Tuesday look's like we might have a show. Probly not sadly . Hopefully May will bring a show to OKlahoma . Seem's we are in a slow start to are Spring show .
ow my another hail storm...i'm sure that would be another hundreds or thousands of bucks just to fix your chasing car...
This is incredable. Today started out sunny in north Seattle. Then we had hail. Thunder, Snow, and now it's poooooooooring snow for like 2 hours. We have like 2 inches on the ground and on the roads. A couple days before we hit 80 degrees in seattle. Now it's a scene from middle of january. I am going to post a video later of this event. And it's only snowing in north seattle - due to our convergence zone. insane!
Awesome video! Wow, that must have been unbelievably intense.
I'm a bit confused though. What is the difference between Tornadavideos.net and Storm Chasers the TV show now? Are you guys one and the same?
You have no advertised them in this video.
And I'm particuarly confused with the streaming live video and the map showing 4 different videos. What is who and who is what?!? I'm lost. Maybe a blog describing who you all are and what we're looking at is needed?
Did the windshield actually shatter? or did it just get big cracks all throughout? weather.com has it and it's titled "hail shatters windshield"?
Only one thing to say. SWEET!!!
Okay maybe two. I hope you have really good insurance man.
You always see at least one person on the road with a pock-marked vehicle, it makes a person wonder...
Hahaha omg, Jon/Donny know exactly what I'm talking about:
My computer was acting weird earlier, and when I had the video playing it was very choppy/slowed down. So much so that it was playing in slow motion!!
Reed, you sound robot-ish in slow mo lol
This is not related to hailstorms or tornadoes. it is a severe weather event and may shatter long standing records.
30-40 cm is expected in the southeast regions of Edmonton, Alberta. The current all time one day record stands at 37 cm The real possibility is there to break the record.
What does this have to do with other weather events.
If hot weather moves in right after there will be flooding. All that moisture will then help feed summer storms and tornadoes
So it may not be a tornado but it is the appetizer for later during the summer, Like a layer of paint on the 2008 season.
Drought kills tornadoes and we got a mild drought until this storm ends it
Hey Mike, how much is the risk of severe weather?
Depends on what kind of severe weather.
We might have Thundersnow due to the intensity of the blizzard, And usually, severe storms and tornadoes hit most often after a snowy or rainy spring.
I found that wet or cold weather in spring is a factor in severe summer weather.
The main reason is or distance from the gulf of mexico.
The tropical air can and does get all the way up here but usually dries out.
The more humidity, the more tornadoes so bring on the moisture.
Soggy springs tend to boost summer dew points by up to 40 degrees

I can agree with that completely, even here--that soon after we get random bits of snow [tho this huge storm in Saskatchewan isn't going to affect me at all :(.] and rain and colder temps, the major thunderstorms roll around. It's why the old babas plant their gardens early and say thunder helps them grow...last year we got our first sign on thunder in April.
Okay well since no one seems to know the answer to my question, how do I unsubscribe from receiving more comments?
I don't need to get emails talking about thundersnow in a post about hail.
Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info man.
Kris.
Tornadovideos.net is what Reed and Joel and there gang call themselves. example I am the ontariochaser.org I dont like it but i deal with it.
I have my own new website.
Storm Chasers was a TV show for last year on Discovery Channel. With Josh Wurman and Sean Casey. This year Reed and Joel will be focus of the show. Should be alot better considering half the footage from the show last year was Reed and Joels footage.
Hope that helps answer your question Kris.
I know there are tornadoes and everything, but it is now known that the situation the western Canada is the worst since the 1950s.
This may not be a tornado but it is important to us who are stuck in it.

Kristopher, I think that you can unsubscribe if you send anothr reply to the blog, and then just make sure the box is un-checked when you do.
The Live Streaming Video is a little complicated right now - the bugs are still being worked out. We probably should be letting everyone know who is on which feed, but sometimes it doesn't happen that way. ;) (Sometimes it does, though).
Matt pretty much answered the Discovery Storm Chasers questions, except I am pretty sure that Sean Casey & Co., as well as Josh Wurman & the DOW are on the show again this year too.
Oh, and just a friendly reminder - the Canada weather talk could always be taking place on the forum!!! ;) :D
I am using the forum but it takes days before a reply. This is common when there are two big events happening at the same time.
But i feel that by Tuesday when the prairies are paralyzed we should see more activity in the forums
lol yeah hypothetically...
We're currently working on a major upgrade to the live tracker/streaming page... we'll have a beta version up in time for Monday, which is looking less and less as a chase day. It looks like mid to late week could get active again, however.
W....T.....F does your auto insurance cost?!
Wow, what a storm!! Looks like snow!
That's an amazing hailstorm! What is that now? 2 broken windshields sp far in 2008? :P
My first thunderstorm chance is here today, as an MCS which developed overnight in North Dakota moves to the NE towards my area. I'll be able to try out camera settings with thunderstorms on my new camera finally if it stays on course! :P
Jon
Looks like today could be another "non-zero chance for tornadoes" day again. If only that stubborn cap would weaken.
