A potentially record-breaking snow storm is forecast to hammer parts of central and southern Oklahoma into the Ozark Mountain region tomorrow through Friday, with up to a foot of snow likely, especially over southern OK into northern AR/southern MO. The 12z WRF from this morning is predicting .75-1 inch of water equivalent precip from southern OK into northern AR, but higher amounts will likely fall within persistent mesoscale bands. The 12 hr precip forecast valid 00z tomorrow is shown below:

This is definitely a classic, TEXTBOOK winter storm pattern for southern/central OK into the ozarks, with a nice, nearly cut-off upper trough pivoting across the Southern Plains, with the track of the 500 mb vorticity maximum just south of the Red River. A tight baroclinic zone will also be in place across OK, with bigtime warm advection ahead of this system before the deformation zone snow arrives. The WRF forecast surface and 500 mb patterns valid tomorrow evening are shown below:

Of course, winter storm warnings are now in effect across central OK for this system tomorrow, including the OKC Metro area, with winter storm watches further northeast. These watches will likely be upgraded to warnings by tonight. We'll be covering this system extensively from Norman, OK, so stay tuned for continuous video/news updates throughout the event!

Reed, What is it looking like for Dallas?
David, based solely off the gfs, it looks like the deformation line will stay NW of Dallas, until 12z friday.
What i would say for this system is mainly rain, mixing with sleet/freezing rain. I'm doubting the possibility for snow in Dallas, but who knows.
If you snow, I wouldn't count on any major accumulations.
huh, interesting, I'm in I winter Storm watch, that's the first time this winter I think!
*faints
:D
I'll have video camera and digital camera on standby ready to document!
Now might be a good time to recharge the cameras from the chase the other day. That is if the models are not messing with us again, it wouldnt be the first time. They have already mentioned the threat of more power outages, so when I went to Wal-Mart a few minutes ago it was really packed. Get extra supplies now, dont wait for it to start snowing. Everyone in my hometown would always wait till after 5 inches had already fallen to get food and stuff, it was stupid. We will need to break 10" here in Norman for school to be cancelled because it will be melting so fast.
Actually Wes, I don't think melting will be too much of a problem. Highs will be very close to freezing, and as the snow continues to hit the groung it will begin to cool the ground temps. There is no doubt that school will be canceld. But knowing as dumb school administrators are these days, I wouldn't be surprised to see us at school:-/
What do ya'll think of this?Snowfall Totals
Wont let me copy.............. look's like 6-10" + for Sulphur area! lol. I like
After taking a look at the 00z NAM and parallel NAM runs... anyone up for a snowchase to Gainesville or Atoka? Can't say I didn't see this one coming... ;)
Heidi, you've been waiting for this all winter and now your fainting?
Looks like I will be missing a good snow maybe for my hometown of Gainesville. I cant complain because I'm living in Steamboat Springs Colorado this winter. We are up to 420" so far this winter!
We got 7 inches on Monday North of Dallas, I was visiting my sister and brother-in-law near Sherman Tx. I had to stay because the got so bad. All the news stations were saying the roads weren't bad.. I will post my video on winter weather forum.
How much do you think we'll get out here in TN? I'm thinking it'll max out at about 3-5 inches here, if we even get that. it may be more of a Sleet storm this far east also.
What say you for Ohio Fri and Sat? Looking like a classic setup with even backside heavy snow . Too early to tell yet.
Possible catastrophic storm with 935mbar heading for the UK this sunday!
Reed, I am in Wichita, KS and all I have to say is GLAD IT"S YOU AND NOT ME. lol. sorry....I am just so sick of snow that I think I would move back to AZ for 2 months to get away from it. Don't have too much fun building snowmen.
Snow now falling here in south central Oklahoma!
Here in the town of Paris we had 3 inches with the last system, and it looks like we may just get another 6 inches tonight. This all seems late in the season to be snowing in our region. Can't say that in the 33 years i have live here that i can remember 2 snow storms in march in north east texas.
even us in dallas have a winter storm warning now!
hey guys im just a rookie here...but looks like some bad stuff between san antonio and corpus christi.
it missed us here in Norman!!! When the systems are forecast to hit us, they trend south, and they're forecast to miss us slightly to the north, they trend north.
Keep us updated on your conditions down in southern OK and northeast TX! it looks like northern AR will get POUNDED as well.
The Ft. Worth NWSFO just released a storm report of 9.0" in Gainesville as of 3:00 PM. Man, I was all ready to drive 30-50 miles south on I-35 this afternoon when it looked like the super-gradient would be fairly close to Norman last night, but a 250-mile round trip with $3.00 gas? Probably not a great choice with chase season on the doorstep... as for OUN, maybe next year, as always.
Got a little over a inch and is melting now. Sad I wanted the 10" lol.
Sulphur
About 3.5" here in north-central AR. Oh yeah, and it's still coming down ... for a while ... meaning until tomorrow evening ;D. The water vapor image looks absolutely amazing for us!

lol, this'll be fun, they're forecasting about 4-6 inches of snow out here! that's enough to close down the whole state lol.
I'll be trying to get some pics as well, and I'll post them on the forums.
My house in Lake Kiowa, east of Gainesville got a little over 9". I am sad Im not at home to see it. Instead im in Steamboat Springs for the winter! 430" and counting :)
Hi everyone!! Wow! We may broke the records this weekend for the snow quantity... 381 cm (152,4 inches) and we are now around 316 cm (126,4 inches) for Montreal, Quebec, but it's climbing to 454 cm (181,6 inches) in Mt-Tremblant, just north of Montreal. Forecasters says that some may recieve up to 60 cm (24 inches) this weekend!!! WOW!! I hope this is real even though I don't know where we will put all this snow... :-s
I'll try to get some videos and pictures for you all!

@ inches here it seemed to stall just before it got here. The heavest snow fell to our west here it seems.
2 fatalities in Florida tornado this morning. Sad.
No love for Ohio? Snowing hard, hard, hard here now just south of Cols. Looking for about 15in when it is all said and done. Don't worry I will have pics.
Wow, this'll be interesting... I'm thinking 3-6 inches here, and I'll let you know how much we actually get... but with 15-16MPH winds, could be some drifting too.
ok, the snow finally made it here... man did it ever make it here. it started about 15-30 mins ago, and we already have about 1/8'th of an inch on the ground, and it should last for another several hours.
Unfortunatly, it's not so much snow, as ice pellets, and it is VERY slipery outside.
