A very interesting feature is apparent in this evening's radar loop from Key West, FL, with several curved bands of higher reflectivity values over the Gulf of Mexico to the west and south of the radar site. They appear to be some kind of mesoscale convergence zones, but also could be a non-meteorological phenomenon like chaff plumes, which are clouds of aluminum-coated glass fibers released by the military to confuse enemy aircraft -- but usually for test purposes in the U.S. of course. Any thoughts on what this might be??

wow
thats wierd
that's very strange, I've never seen something like that before...
sign of an appocoliptic storm of some sort? Also, reed you never told us you where on the worlds most amazing videos!
That is very odd! I've also never seen anything like it.
As for what it could be... maybe there is something wrong with the radar equipment?
The radar has captured the annual spring migration of the chupacabbras!
Omg, that is seriously so incredibly creepy...
When I lived in the Keys, there was a lot of air force activity in the area due to a base somewhere in the area, so I'm guessing your latter hypothesis is correct.
In the area.
Thats really cool looking. Never seen anything like that before. I am going with UFOs as the cause.
project stormfury
Bees. Thats my guess.
that looks pretty amazing and i proubly also think the military thing to and stuff but wonder if glass thing if it would rain anything?
just think of that was on oklahoma and that was actually storms lol.
Could be a Methane plume from the sea floor. That area is riddeled with trapped methane under the crust of the ocean and would definitly affect radar images.
I wonder if that could somehow be related to the shuttle landing last night?
I was about to point the same thing out Chittick...I would put my money on a Chaff plume or a Methane Plume, and IMO can rule out the "Migration of the chupacabbras" being as they would have migrated west, and some of the echo's show the reflectivities started at the center point and extended both West and East.
Thats my hypothesis
Weard...but beautiful! ??????????? It would be interesting to now what it is...
It's the plot to Tom Clancy's next novel!
Sorry to go off topic but there was just a HUGE flash of lightning and really loud thunder here in Villa Park, Illinois. And it's snowing right now! Is that thundersnow I've been hearing of? It only happened once.
Yes that is thundersnow/convective snow...Lightning during Thundersnow, seems to be brighter, do to the thickness/visibility do to the air being full of white/snow.
If i remember correctly, the special use airspace map showed that area active during that time.
I think it's chaff.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. That was extremely freaky.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see how methane could show up on radar even if it were in a coherant cloud.
I am however pretty sure it has something to do with aliens.
pssst-new post!
It was Endeavor landing. The radar screening and the precautions that NASA takes to ensure the astronauts return to Earth safely.
I observe this webpage daily, I would like to see more input on the weather for space shuttle take offs and landings.
google "chemtrails". That's freakish.
Hard to tie this to the shuttle. Look at the Landing Ground Track the Shuttle took:
