Here is great video of the Blaine Co, OK tornado, as shot by Don G and co.  The tornado touched down at around 2245 UTC, and was on the ground for at least 10 minutes, severely damaging at least one small home.  The southward surging cold front was within 10 miles or so of this storm as it was producing the tornado!

New day 1 out... still no High risk though, and it actually looks a bit weaker, only 15% chance of hail max now, and the severe areasare slightly smaller.

Nice video for sure. Here in Ohio it is 68 going to a high of 71 with tons of rain up to 3-4 in by Tuesday night.
Brother in Bama is on the lookout but I think his action waits until late tonight.

I think the storms and the people are in a "diurnal" lull right now. Things will get cranking when I go to work 5pm EST.

Video of the Blaine Co, OK Tornado!! Comment Posted By Jake (in TN) | March 3, 2008 @ 2:30 PM #

yeah, you're probably right Gerb, it looks like a lot of the more severe stuff will be later in the day... Lol, 2:00 is taking too long to get here :P

Man... this one just seems to be falling apart... It was looking pretty nice, but with every new SPC forecast it just keeps getting worse... they've completly dropped the 30% hail chance, and the Hatched area for the Wind, and everything else has been majorly reduced down to a much smaller area then was first predicted.
Oh well, at least it's only march :/

Video of the Blaine Co, OK Tornado!! Comment Posted By Reed | March 3, 2008 @ 3:14 PM #

Yeah the problem with this system is that it's not as progressive as typical "Dixie Alley" outbreaks, and is nearly becoming cut-off in the Southern stream. Reading the Jackson, MS NWS discussion last night, he stated similarities with the Feb 5 outbreak, but I see nothing similar to that event. The uncapped warm sector is much smaller and more narrow, and the system is not an open, progressive wave that will result in positive vorticity advection well east of the boundary over the entire warm sector. That's why the fast, progressive systems result in several bands of supercells well east of the main cold front, and these are the typical southern U.S. outbreaks. Based on this, we decided not to chase southeast AR and northern LA. I could definitely see tornadoes tonight across MS as the main wave begins to lift northeast, although not the typical Dixie Alley tornado outbreak as mentioned in the Jackson NWS discussion.

Hopefully we'll get some snow here in Norman! If not we may have to drive east to get some series snowfall rates tonight.

Next time could one of you stand in front of the camera and give a big cheesy thumbs up in front of the tornado? That would make my day!

ok, can someone explain this to me? right now, the Weather.com radar is showing that the cold front is about at Memphis TN, but a Special weather statment was just released saying this;
STEWART-MONTGOMERY-ROBERTSON-SUMNER- MACON-CLAY-PICKETT-BENTON- HOUSTON- HUMPHREYS-DICKSON-CHEATHAM-DAVIDSON- WILSON-TROUSDALE- SMITH-JACKSON-PUTNAM- OVERTON-FENTRESS-PERRY-HICKMAN-LEWIS- WILLIAMSON-MAURY-MARSHALL-RUTHERFORD- CANNON-DEKALB-WHITE- CUMBERLAND- BEDFORD-COFFEE-WARREN-GRUNDY-VAN BUREN- WAYNE-LAWRENCE- GILES- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...DOVER...CLARKSVILLE... SPRINGFIELD... GALLATIN...LAFAYETTE... CELINA...BYRDSTOWN...CAMDEN...ERIN... WAVERLY...DICKSON...ASHLAND CITY... KINGSTON SPRINGS...NASHVILLE... LEBANON...MOUNT JULIET...HARTSVILLE... CARTHAGE...GAINESBORO... COOKEVILLE... LIVINGSTON...JAMESTOWN...ALLARDT... LINDEN... LOBELVILLE...CENTERVILLE... HOHENWALD...FRANKLIN...BRENTWOOD... COLUMBIA...LEWISBURG...MURFREESBORO... WOODBURY...SMITHVILLE... SPARTA... CROSSVILLE...FAIRFIELD GLADE... SHELBYVILLE...TULLAHOMA... MANCHESTER...MCMINNVILLE...TRACY CITY...ALTAMONT...COALMONT... SPENCER...WAYNESBORO...LAWRENCEBURG... PULASKI 450 PM CST MON MAR 3 2008
...SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AFTER MIDNIGHT...

A STRONG STORM SYSTEM AND COLD FRONT WILL BRING THE POSSIBILITY OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MIDDLE TENNESSEE AFTER MIDNIGHT INTO EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. THE SQUALL LINE IS FORECAST TO REACH THE TENNESSEE RIVER SHORTLY AFTER MIDNIGHT...THEN EXTEND ALONG INTERSTATE 65 CORRIDOR...BETWEEN 2 AM AND 4 AM...AND ONTO THE PLATEAU BETWEEN 5 AM AND 7 AM. THE MAIN THREAT WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. ALTHOUGH THE TORNADO THREAT AT THIS TIME APPEARS WEAK...ISOLATED TORNADOES CANNOT BE RULED OUT.

I am confused because if the cold front keeps it's current course, and the weather behaves like it usually does, the front will move through about 10PM-midnight. how then will sever weather develop in the middle of a rain mass, or behind the cold front?
