News DetailHigh Risk issued this morning -- Tornado outbreak looming!

A classic MS River Valley tornado outbreak is about to begin from southern Arkansas northeast to western Kentucky. Unseasonable moisture values, incredible wind shear, and a large uncapped warm sector will set the stage for potentially record-breaking tornado outbreak beginning in the next few hours. We are currently sitting just east of Little Rock, monitoring the pre-frontal convection to our southwest. The temperature is around 70 with dewpoints well in the 60s! A vast difference compared to the mid-30s we left in Norman, OK this morning. Hopefully we'll avoid the decoy storms! Stay tuned for updates!

Good luck guys and STAY SAFE!
Hope you guys have an awesome and safe chase!
Wow, I just went outside, and it has cleared up a bit, so now I can see min-cumulus towers forming to my SE. though I can't see west at all right now due to low level clouds.
The cellular showers developing in northern LA and extreme northeast TX and southern AR are VERY interesting. I would not be surprised to see several supercells explode out of that mess and move northeast into eastern AR later this afternoon.
Watch out to the west of KLZK, coming to I-40 from the south could be some potential supercells later, these would be good to follow.
Lawn trash at the OK/AR border might be getting its act together
Oh I see you posted it already while I was staring squinty-eyed at my brand new full-version GRL3
Are these things really moving as fast as I see right now!?
We're watching the cells coming out of LA very closely. Those will be tornadic supercells very soon as they move into southeast AR. We may move south to intercept soon!
IT'S HAPPENING!
Testing
What do you think of that cell forming over northwest Winn county in LA?
Grant, around Sheridan
Test
Thread is rejecting posts
kaufman/rains/van zandt leading cell in Texas looks bad
Reed, do you find the chase terrain favorable down there? You should be in a LOT of farmland! There are fish catfish and tilapia farms all over the place right around there.
Stay safe Reed! Kids here are all going home to watch your website and tracker.

According to my maps, Reed is in perfect position. The events later on the boot of MO might be the best choice for tornadic thunderstorms...Triple point area with best low level vorticity.
can anyone help me view the live tracker I see nothing
Click my name.
I just says live tracker with a empty box
New PDS watch out!! F2-F5 Tornado probability 70%!!
Good luck Reed!
yea its not working for me eather
I want these storms!! Booo I hate you guys! Oh well theres only 3 more months till Storm Season for me.
P.S. Kevin, get on OWS chat.
Yes!! I knew that storm in LA would get Tornado Warned soon! Wooohooo go get it Reed!
I'm on it. And yeah, Tornado Warning Northern Louisiana. Nice couplet .
Live tracker works fine for me.
Hello everybody,
has anyone got a storm coverage internet livestream for my (LA, AR) ?
Thank you and stay safe today!
Yeah the Live tracker is perfectly fine. I can't wait to see when this Tornado Warned cell will move into AR..It could put down something interesting..My bet's are an F3-F4 could touchdown today.
F3-F4 touchdowns are impossible. The F scale is determined only "after" a touchdown.
Volker, if northeast AR/ southeast MO gets any warnings, KAIT-8 out of Jonesboro will have a live feed. I post this now because I may be in the field soon (or when this happens).
http://www.kait8.com/global/category.asp?c=4390
I knew that but I just said what I thought strength of a tornado could touchdown. (EF3-EF4*) Anyway...
2 Tornado Warnings!
Going to be a nasty day. Hopefully nobody gets hurt although some bigger cities are in the line of fire Mephis, Springfield, Little Rock, etc....
Hoping Ohio can something with the cold front in the pre dawn hours we shall see.
K-Mart nice to see you behaving today. These years that end in 8 seem to be bad look back to 78, 98 and now 08.
i can't see the live tracker, either... must not work in IE6
They are in good position so lets wait!
Yes, I am on medications now. Refused before, but decided over the past few months to. Happy kind of meds.
Back to severe weather! Weeeeee...
I'm at the office working ( yes my real job now ) but checkin in. Be back later! Good luck Reed.
Thanks a lot Heidi! Be careful, the setup looks really nasty for Febuary. Don't you meet with Reed?
It has been over an hour since I have had an Internet connection, but my how things have developed. It looks like previous post was right on about the cell that started in Winn County, LA.
I am such a rookie when it comes to this stuff compared to most of you guys, so I get excited when my intuition is actually right!
You need to try hitting "auto update" or whatever it is over there on the right-hand side for the tracker to work. I don't have it up right now because my computer is having memory issues... I guess that happens when you have 5-6 screens up and GR3.
:D
We're trying to intercept the LA cell...we're in position to intercept it southwest of Dumas, and have a river crossing to follow it into MS if necessary. We should be on it for sure within the hour! I heard a rumor of a confirmed tornado??
thanks heidi
so far only 2 tw out right now
At 254 PM CST...National Weather Service meteorologists were tracking
a possible tornado....located 17 miles southwest of Beekman...or
about 14 miles west of Bastrop...moving northeast at 50 mph.
The tornado will be near...
5 miles west of Beekman by 310 PM CST...
pass between Crossett and Berlin by 325 PM CST...
Hamburg by 330 PM CST...
reed all i head about that one is that it could be rain-wrapped- and that meteorlogists were tracking a possible tornado
make that 3 now im surprise there isn't more than there is
DAM storms moving at 50 mph there moving so fast how u soposed to chase?
You don't. You sit, wait, get it, and try to hope another forms behind it.
Unless It's moving up the highway.
New PDS tornado watch out for the rest of the high risk area.

Is the "Reed" on my radar actually you or is it a town? Either way, if you stop by a town with your name on it it's a good place to view, and if it is you, you've found the perfect spot.
Storm isn't TOR for now
That PDS watch you just posted Heidi is exactly where I am targeting in the virtual world. That's where I would be.
I mean the GRLevel3, not the one here :)
The cell he's going for is not holding much longer. Needs to go to the best dynamics, which is further North in the last PDS watch. Prob hit this, then blast North.
Reed/Joel - Couldn't help but notice you are on/near Dumas, they got hit hard by the tornado last April. Is there still a lot of damage present in the area?
Be Safe!
Mark (new storm chasing enthusiast!)
looks like it went back to tor again
yea anothe tw. lol while here its just been raining on and off lol
Looks like Hamburg, AR is getting slammed...
At 337 PM CST...meteorologists detected a tornado 6 miles east of
Hamburg...moving northeast at 45 mph. Trained weather spotters
reported tornado damage east of Hamburg.
The tornado will be near...
Snyder and Portland by 345 PM CST...
Montrose by 350 PM CST...
McMillan Corner by 405 PM CST...
Bad situation for Hamburg. Wunderground radar says that the hail core drops up to 3" hail... The cell still looks very nasty!
i wonder if it was reed who called in damage and stuff
nvm he's alot further than i thought he was
GOD LOOK AT THE HOOK ON THAT BABY
Stay in McGehee but keep your eyes OPEN, this one's feeding and feeding. At around 4:10 it should pass over, the rotation and hook to the east in between McGehee and Arkansas City. There's a nice EW road in between those two towns that will be good to follow the storm on to view it from the rear, and there's a NE road from McG that you can follow the storm on - at least for a while.
Statement as of 3:47 PM CST on February 05, 2008
The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a
* Tornado Warning for...
Newton County in north central Arkansas
northeastern Johnson County in western Arkansas
* until 430 PM CST
* at 345 PM CST... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Ozone
Recreation Area... moving northeast at 50 mph.
* The tornado will be near...
Jasper around 415 PM CST...
Dermott looks like its in the path, just south of McGehee
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I'M IN A 15% ZONE AND WHEN THE NEXT WATCH IS OUT I'LL BE IN A PDS WATCH CRAP CRAP AAAAA Reed has a tornado on the ground TWC says law eforsmant has seen a tornado!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Heidi, you still around? I think your county was included in the latest md. Sounds kinda ugly.
A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 415 PM CST for eastern
Christian County...
At 347 PM CST... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near
Oldfield... or 11 miles east of Ozark... moving northeast at 60 mph.
The tornado will remain over mainly rural areas of eastern Christian
County... including the town of Elkhead.
Newton Co. is one of the most "Ozarky" counties in the state. Lots of hills & trees. Big elk hunting territory. Very dangerous place for a tornado warning!
Statement as of 3:55 PM CST on February 05, 2008
... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 415 PM CST for
southeastern Drew County...
At 353 PM CST... local law enforcement reported a tornado. This
tornado was located over extreme southeastern Drew County... moving
northeast at 45 mph. The tornado is over the town of Jerome.
If you are caught outside... seek shelter in a nearby reinforced
building. As a last resort... seek shelter in a culvert... ditch or low
spot and cover your head with your hands.
Dermott is going to get cored, Jerome and Arkansas City might get worse
Ark City intercept is probably going to be 4:20-4:30, this one's moving a little slower.
Radar grabbing two rotations in this one storm.
yea the bears can report the tornado lol
Yeah, I am in that new MSD. I am not too sure anymore that we are going to see anything major here, specifically. I looked at the water-wapor a little while ago and I think it's possible we may get missed, to the west and to the east. I guess that amounts to being dry-slotted.
I am going to check it again right now.
Heidi what is your local news? do they have a live feed f the tornado?
You guys are in position! Whoo!!!! Oh craaaaap! Be safe!
Good choice to go toward Lake Village and Ark City to get that storm that was E of Hamburg. Hamburg is smack in the piney woods, while Lake Village is out in open fields. Should get a nice intercept if it holds together. Grew up in the area and saw some real storms.
WOOOO HOO sayin chance of svr storms for me as shown on twc for nj
Ive been watching that storm now for about 3 hours and she looks amazing there has to be a tornado on the ground.
Matt there is look for that warning or watch TWC they sayin tht there is!
This high risk business is exhausting. I have hardly had enough time to look at the RUC, & other model updates. For the last day or so, the GFS & WRF have been showing our greatest potential as being between 0Z-6Z. Somehow I was forgetting that; it looks like that is going to be what happens. I'm not really thinking we're going to be dry-slotted. I just think this stuff isn't going to get here until after 6:00. Which sucks. A lot. For lots of reasons.
Caleb, our station is www.kait8.com . Just click on ther weather link. If we get any tornado warnings in our viewing area (which is northeast Arkansas and southeast MO) we'll have a live stream up.
BACK UP DUDE go back to 159/165 you'll still have room this thing might turn
Sorry Caleb havent got that far yet ill look at it in a bit.
You guys are in the purple on the radar! How is it out there?!! WOW
reed is in pefect position
idk man, that looks like they are in some major hail business there. Something not good is happening.
yea that area is 3in hail when last checked
soo guys....you know there is still snow out there =P here in southern wisconsin anywhere from 4-20 inches of snow expected!!!
STAY PUT THERE, RIGHT AT HALLEY
If there is a tornado happening right at this moment, Reed & co. are probably getting the closest-ever footage of an AR tornado. =-O
JY or SMT - anyone heard from them recently?
...and it's passed, and they've got the ass-end of the monster. East to the hook then north to follow. You guys must be using GRL3 too. Excellent way to get to the other side of it guys! Damn!
WOW that cell is getting stronger the hook is getting larger!!!! I bet it will continue for at least 20 min!
there just south of arkansa city
The tracker is behind on the storm. Reed and Joel are absolutely safe and in perfect position now according to GR. Arkansas City, however, is taking a direct hit as we speak if there's still a tornado on the ground.
Our chief has a friend who has a visual on this storm & says there are two wall clouds and a needle funnel.
Statement as of 4:23 PM CST on February 05, 2008

TWO TORNADO VORTEX SIGNATURES IN MEMPHIS OH NO
lol lucky u then and we heard small funnel on it and also get any cracks in the window?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH! What an insane day! I hope there's excellent footage out there, and no one gets hurt. I've got tornadoes to my east, warm weather to my west, and I'm in the middle of a effing blizzard! I'll try to get it up after awhile, but first, some much needed shouting for those of you in the warned areas.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!
the one storm wit it is north of the city so thats good and southern part wit tw is weakening
Hey guys

BE SAFE! - Mark
Too scary. This tornado is headed right for the airport, it's in the middle of suburbia. Confirmed by spotters on the ground, large tornado.
LIVE FOOTAGE of another tornado near Memphis. See the URL above to see it...
TORNADO IS ON THE GROUND IN MIMPHIS LIVE FEED HERE!!
http://www.wreg.com/
Oh jeez....
This is insane. 2 PDSs, and several tornados near Memphis and it's headed at me!!
Not just a tornado! A huge multi-vortex! Power flashes, everything, I'm watching it live!!!!!!
Tornado on the ground in MEMPHIS, TN !!!!!!!!!!
http://www.wreg.com/
Heh, umm, ok Heidi. Now I'm starting to get a bit scared lol
Jake take some pis while you can!! the tornado has passed mimphis and still moveing...
I'll try Caleb, but it's already dark here.
And I've still got a little while before they get here.
Ok jake stay safe! that tornado has done some damage I'm not sure if it's a single vortex or a milti vortex but the damage is in sout haven. mike bettis of TWC is in downtown! take some pis of him!!!
heidi's power just has been flickering- and well told me me i'm her new nowcaster- and she'll be safe
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA i'm under a MSD
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md0167.html
Donny tell Heidi I said get to the basement. all thunderstorms could become tornadic
I'm supprised that I'm not under a tornado watch atm... not even a MD yet though. but I can bet that I'll be in a Tornado warning lol, most of West TN is under a tornado warn.
My parents live in Desoto Co. They have damage north of them in Southhaven, MS. They live in Hernando which is about 5 miles south of there
Update to tornado damage in DeSoto Cty, MS....My in-laws garage in the back suffered heavy damage from a fallen tree. Lots of debris, shingles, limbs, etc but all homes are intact!!!!! I'm trying to get some photos and will hopefully be able to post them sometime tomorrow. I live about 5-8 miles south of them, I saw a huge wedge formation from my vantage point. About 5 minutes later we had major rotation take place over us, nothing dropped out but it was very classic of how these things form and will forever be burned in my memory.
Wow, this is the most INSANE thing I've EVER seen!!!
I think I might have seen something (funnel cloud/stovepipe) in the Cell that just passed into KY FROM MY HOUSE!
And is it just me, or is there ANOTHER line building up between the first one and the second?
lol, I think I'm gonna pass out (not just from the excitment, but from the heat/humidity while running around)
Just wanted to add that it appears that everyone in this neighborhood is safe, no injuries, just a bunch of shaken Southaven citizens.
Heres a timeline and some small pics
O.O!
I go out to pay bills after work and when I get back all hell has broken loose!
I hope you guys are getting a brilliant light n sound show!
lol, it's coming at me!!!!
I have a TW cell that has 3.25 inch hail headed straight at me! when I go outside, I see some low level clouds and it looks like they may be rotating around the storm, and it DEFINATLY has rotation in the storm.
Wish me luck!!!
they are reporting fatalities in atkins arkansas..
Good luck jake!
What a wild month it has been literally this is the second event in a month. This is nuts!
I'm sorry to hear there might be fatalities.
By the way does anyone have any links to live streams from local station?
Theyre calling for a chance of severe storms over here in maryland tomorrow. Nothing developing till the afternoon but you know full well I am gonna keep an eye on things and see what develops.
If things go well I might be able to break in my camera properly.
Also, nice to see that the weather channel cancelled when weather changed history. I was getting tired of watching the same thing...AGAIN
Wow, that's an INSANE inflow notch on the storm coming at me, it's gonna slide just to the north of me so I may be able to get some INSANE video.
here you go Dan
Jake are you talking about The storm near Jackson?
Tornado Emergency just issued for Jackson, TN per WREG tv
Sure is... now I'm done past scared.. I'M TERRIFIED!!!!
I hope the one in Jackson dosent hit Casey Jones Village, that place has the best buffet!
Jake-what is your plan? in case of emergency? Do you have a weather radio handy in case you lose power?
Jake what city are you in/where are you...this sig i showing the best sign of rotation on the Southside of the storm...so even if the "storm goes north" The tornado maybe on the southside.
Large and Destructive Tornado!
WOW!!!
I'm watching the player right now. It's just crazy seeing the video of the tornado and the flashing transformers. Oh man, And I'm supposed to be getting hit by this stuff tomorrow.
Got a call btw, they may be activating the spotters in maryland tomorrow.

DAN - What are you watching now? Is there another web site or live feed that is showing more tornado action ?????
The WREG (Memphis) footage 2 hours ago was AMAZING!

ok good. I would be freakin myself-just make sure you know what to do if something does happen
*Whew* it looks like the Storm may be weakening...
I just hope it has something left for me ;)
ok-WREG reporting from the "old Walmart"/sheesh/damage report/no injuries
Yeah It's like 68 here and the wind is blowing tward me so the storms are heaed tward me!!!
SevereStudios.com is reporting that they have a tornado on the ground in AR. Live blog and stream on their site. This is unreal.
WREG is playing live on my computer I have the weather channel up and I have my hometown of ohios live stream up. they are reporting and noting that a tornado watch has gone up there.
Link in name deal.
Also, like I said weather channel closed out their when weather changed history for this!
Need info. whats the record for most tornados in febuary?
Jake dont be so sure it is weakening! it is running some sort of grunge on the velocity scan. Still has a nice copulet.
I just heard from Heidi and she said there are major damage reports from Mountain View to Ash Flat, AR...the same storm that went through Clinton, AR. She said she could hear the roar of a possible tornado, and she's still in a shelter from the sound of it without power. She'll have a full report later
Sad to hear about the fatalities in Conway Co...hopefully that will be it
We've seen about 10 wall clouds since sunset, not including the supercell down near the MS River...but no tornadoes yet.
Our friend Dave is in Clinton and is reporting extensive damage with trees down everywhere and houses destroyed. Not a good situation there
Also SevereStudios.com is running a live stream and they are tracking some Big Weather!
I'm closing out some stuff. This is INTENSE!
wow. what a crazy night. and this is only the beginning of the year.
For your answer to the question of most tornadoes in february, extensive research (type in List of North American Tornado Events) has yielded a highest CONFIRMED number at 49, from the Enterprise, AL Tornado Outbreak (although that was likely eclipsed by the infamous Enigma Outbreak)
lol, my nose just started bleeding...
This is CRAZY INSANE!!!
the lightning is flipping awesome, and it's really startnig to get scary outside
SevereStudios.com has a tornado on the ground!! Simply wow...
