High Risk issued this morning -- Tornado outbreak looming!

A classic MS River Valley tornado outbreak is about to begin from southern Arkansas northeast to western Kentucky.  Unseasonable moisture values, incredible wind shear, and a large uncapped warm sector will set the stage for potentially record-breaking tornado outbreak beginning in the next few hours.  We are currently sitting just east of Little Rock, monitoring the pre-frontal convection to our southwest.   The temperature is around 70 with dewpoints well in the 60s!  A vast difference compared to the mid-30s we left in Norman, OK this morning. Hopefully we'll avoid the decoy storms!  Stay tuned for updates!

Wow, I just went outside, and it has cleared up a bit, so now I can see min-cumulus towers forming to my SE. though I can't see west at all right now due to low level clouds.

The cellular showers developing in northern LA and extreme northeast TX and southern AR are VERY interesting. I would not be surprised to see several supercells explode out of that mess and move northeast into eastern AR later this afternoon.

High Risk issued this morning -- Tornado outbreak looming! Comment Posted By Darrin | February 5, 2008 @ 2:11 PM #

Watch out to the west of KLZK, coming to I-40 from the south could be some potential supercells later, these would be good to follow.

Are these things really moving as fast as I see right now!?

High Risk issued this morning -- Tornado outbreak looming! Comment Posted By Reed | February 5, 2008 @ 2:26 PM #

We're watching the cells coming out of LA very closely. Those will be tornadic supercells very soon as they move into southeast AR. We may move south to intercept soon!

IT'S HAPPENING!

Yeah the Live tracker is perfectly fine. I can't wait to see when this Tornado Warned cell will move into AR..It could put down something interesting..My bet's are an F3-F4 could touchdown today.

High Risk issued this morning -- Tornado outbreak looming! Comment Posted By Kevin Martin | February 5, 2008 @ 3:43 PM #

F3-F4 touchdowns are impossible. The F scale is determined only "after" a touchdown.

Volker, if northeast AR/ southeast MO gets any warnings, KAIT-8 out of Jonesboro will have a live feed. I post this now because I may be in the field soon (or when this happens).

It has been over an hour since I have had an Internet connection, but my how things have developed. It looks like previous post was right on about the cell that started in Winn County, LA.

I am such a rookie when it comes to this stuff compared to most of you guys, so I get excited when my intuition is actually right!

High Risk issued this morning -- Tornado outbreak looming! Comment Posted By Heidi | February 5, 2008 @ 3:54 PM #

You need to try hitting "auto update" or whatever it is over there on the right-hand side for the tracker to work. I don't have it up right now because my computer is having memory issues... I guess that happens when you have 5-6 screens up and GR3.

:D

We're trying to intercept the LA cell...we're in position to intercept it southwest of Dumas, and have a river crossing to follow it into MS if necessary. We should be on it for sure within the hour! I heard a rumor of a confirmed tornado??

GOD LOOK AT THE HOOK ON THAT BABY

Stay in McGehee but keep your eyes OPEN, this one's feeding and feeding. At around 4:10 it should pass over, the rotation and hook to the east in between McGehee and Arkansas City. There's a nice EW road in between those two towns that will be good to follow the storm on to view it from the rear, and there's a NE road from McG that you can follow the storm on - at least for a while.

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 415 PM CST for
southeastern Drew County...

At 353 PM CST... local law enforcement reported a tornado. This
tornado was located over extreme southeastern Drew County... moving
northeast at 45 mph. The tornado is over the town of Jerome.

If you are caught outside... seek shelter in a nearby reinforced

spot and cover your head with your hands.

This high risk business is exhausting. I have hardly had enough time to look at the RUC, & other model updates. For the last day or so, the GFS & WRF have been showing our greatest potential as being between 0Z-6Z. Somehow I was forgetting that; it looks like that is going to be what happens. I'm not really thinking we're going to be dry-slotted. I just think this stuff isn't going to get here until after 6:00. Which sucks. A lot. For lots of reasons.

Caleb, our station is www.kait8.com . Just click on ther weather link. If we get any tornado warnings in our viewing area (which is northeast Arkansas and southeast MO) we'll have a live stream up.

Update to tornado damage in DeSoto Cty, MS....My in-laws garage in the back suffered heavy damage from a fallen tree. Lots of debris, shingles, limbs, etc but all homes are intact!!!!! I'm trying to get some photos and will hopefully be able to post them sometime tomorrow. I live about 5-8 miles south of them, I saw a huge wedge formation from my vantage point. About 5 minutes later we had major rotation take place over us, nothing dropped out but it was very classic of how these things form and will forever be burned in my memory.

I just heard from Heidi and she said there are major damage reports from Mountain View to Ash Flat, AR...the same storm that went through Clinton, AR. She said she could hear the roar of a possible tornado, and she's still in a shelter from the sound of it without power. She'll have a full report later

Sad to hear about the fatalities in Conway Co...hopefully that will be it

We've seen about 10 wall clouds since sunset, not including the supercell down near the MS River...but no tornadoes yet.

Our friend Dave is in Clinton and is reporting extensive damage with trees down everywhere and houses destroyed. Not a good situation there
