A severe weather outbreak is likely tonight through tomorrow from the eastern Southern Plains east to the Mississippi River Valley (Southern IL southward). The models have been trending slower and slower with this system with each consecutive run, with the WRF now forecasting the dryline to cross the I-35 corridor late tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Therefore, the severe weather threat for today will hold off until after dark when the upper-level support arrives. Beginning early tomorrow afternoon, or even late tonight, the threat for tornadoes will increase dramatically over Northeast TX, East OK, and AR as supercells become surface-based. Given 0-1 km helicity values of 200+ m2/s2 over the entire warm sector, these tornadoes could be strong and long-track (especially with the fast storm motions). Selected WRF forecast panels for 00z tomorrow are displayed below.

As is commonly the case with this type of event, the core of the LLJ and the best low-level shear will be slightly east of the dryline and the best instability, as can be seen in the CAPE and 850 mb forecasts above. However, this area still has little or no capping inversion despite lesser CAPE, and is still supportive of strong tornadoes. A likely scenario for tomorrow's severe weather event is the development of two bands of supercells: one over Arkansas and northern Louisiana along a pre-frontal confluence line early in the afternoon, and a second along the dryline further west across eastern Oklahoma and extreme Northeast Texas. The eastern supercells will likely have the highest potential of producing long-track strong tornadoes given the very high 0-1 km helicity values, but tornadoes cannot be ruled out along the dryline as well. The dryline storms will also move rapidly eastward into the higher low-level shear as the day progresses, anyway, so either target seems logical from a storm chasing perspective.

A moderate risk was issued last night by the Storm Prediction Center in their Day 2 Outlook over the southern MS River Valley and eastward, but this area will definitely be shifted significantly west in the next outlook -- probably including most of AR and maybe even Eastern OK and Northeast TX. We'll definitely be chasing this event, and will keep you updated as more model runs become available!

all i know is that i'm ready for it- i have had plenty of coffee- i have everything ready- i better not get skipped otherwise i will be a very unhappy camper lol
I was just noticing the slow-down, too.
Caffeine taking over ... can't think of anything rational to say.
Reed, AR could really use some high-def tornado footage!
I am *barely* holding it together here! =-O
They already moved the MODERATE RISK back. Just now. Must go read ...
AAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
I think I'm gonna vote today (if I can?!)
kinda shocked no high risk out yet for tommorow they'll probably do that tommorow- but reed- good call on the moderate being shifted more west- like i said though- i already have my tornado shelter ready
Hey we got something popping up north of london Arkansas.
Looks like a very small strong updraft cell. anyone else seeing this? East of fort smith by 2 or 3 counties. The velocities radars are down though so All I'm getting is a return on the regular radar.
Should be an intresting afternoon/night
i don't see it danny boy (sorry couldn't resist lol) right now my radar shows nothing but ground clutter- but i'll keep looking for it
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=srx&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no
Right along the I-40 corridor east of fort smith. I might just be mistaking that for ground clutter.
It looks like something is formin there though.
And I get called Danny boy alot so its cool 8D
This is going to be a long night/day tomorrow. I will definitely need a nap this afternoon.
Reed, you tease us with your possible chase areas. :D What are you thinking your target will be? It helps to pass the time, you know, since all that is happening right now is EXTREME cu screaming across the sky from ssw-nne and 20+ mph surgace winds. The anticipation phase is very difficult! Help us! :D
Oh no! Not the dreaded "surgace winds!"
I'm not OCD, but I do want to clarify - *surface!
The GFS was acting weird at COD a while ago. I hope it is better now because I want to go look at it.
Good morning everyone! I have no school today or tomorrow, so I can sit here and watch all the severe weather :).
Anyway, for Edmonton theres more snow to come. I'd say good amounts of 5-10cm of snow here Friday/Saturday.
What no mention of TN? lol
I am loving this more and more, if/when they put out a high risk, I really hope I'll be in it. SHould I expect any tornados out here, or just linear stuff again?
Jake - do you have a storm shelter?
I wouldn't be surprised to see a high risk area at this point.
Kenny! Nice that you'll be in on the action!
Kenny! mah good buddy. Looks like the usual group is assembling plus the usual latch on (me) Expect me to be watching this. Seems I have another slow afternoon lined up. Heck, I got the weather radio playing on my computer. people in my area are thinking this is marylands forcast.
Heh, nice thing about the army there. so much daytime computer access. and occasionally jack crap to do.
Nope, but we do have a nice closet hehe
Be careful to all of you chasing.
Here in Ohio the sun is peeking out with temps about 52 right now after some overnight rain. We should be able to get some storms up here Tuesday night with wind being the main threat. Be intresting to see what transpires tomorrow.
BTW G-MEN
Jake, in all seriousness ... do you have neighbors with a shelter or basement? This event is looking like it could be bad-news for a closet shelter. I don't at all mean to get you too excited, but as a person who does not have a shelter myself, I thought I'd just get you thinking about other options.
Have I coined it yet? Super Cell Tuesday? :-/
Also, I am seeing on another site that several well known chasers are targeting NE AR/MO Bootheel for tomorrow. =-O
Wow, that sirious...
Unfortuantly no, we don't know anyone with a shelter or basement. That's part of why I pay so much attention to the weather, that way, we at least see it coming.
Hey guys and gals,
First time to post always reading the comments. Got a question for Heidi... How are we looking for tornadic weather around the Dallas/Fort Worth area these next couple of days??
Well Keith, I'd say that the cap is going to be an issue for DFW today, but tomorrow morning that won't be quite as big of a hindrance. The wind fields aren't as incredible down there as they are in, for example, Arkansas, but they're ample, especially given that the CAPE is greater in the DFW area ... according to the models. I'd expect a tornado watch possibly later this evening, but tomorrow morning looks like a bigger possibility for actual tornadic storms.
Hey
Thanks for the info Heidi..
It's 72 and really sticky here in St. Louis... We've had really drastic changes in the past week. We had a 30+ degree drop in a couple hours on last Tuesday, 9 inches of snow on the ground Friday, its hot today, strong storms tomorrow, and then it's supposed to snow again on Wednesday!
It is 75 degrees here!!!
I am going to go visit with our neighbors ... the ones with the shelter! (No joke - I really am!!!)
I'm completely bored out of my mind asfjksdks I want summer back so bad..
It's like......-18 celsius here...which is....somewhere around -10F..Can you guys bring me some nice warm 70's, or even 50's :)
Alright Folks, Im already skipping school tommorow, and staying up tonight. Im in the slight risk and 5% tornado.
I have the live cam up, and did some work on the DSL so its now broadcasting online in High Quailty, It was Med. Yesterday.
Heres the link. http://player.stickam.com/flash/stickam/stickam_player.swf?skinName=large0&app=stickam_chat_large.swf&userIP=127.0.0.1&webID=372AE1A569B424DDBD4195B3100BD2E5&skinType=large&sessionType=115&userSiteID=1015547&photo=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stickam.com%2Fimages%2Fen%2Fdefault%2Fprofile%2Fna_640x480.jpg&bgcolor=FFFFFF&userType=204&autoplay=1&userID=174448676&playerID=3871783&hostName=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stickam.com&userName=milton1991&langID=en&defaultMedia=slideShow&
If it goes down, the computer crashed, but I will be up with it online throughout the night. Its hot here, and the skies just cleared.
Reed are you planning on posting up ahead of early morning projected storms? Where exactly are you posting up? I was going to go to memphis but it looks like its slowed down a little bit any ideas anyone?
In Wis, the cold sector of this storm, we now have freezing rain falling after about 2-3 inches of quick-snowfall. Tomorrow night I think we'll miss the other snow that will impact southern Wis. Milwaukee and Sheboygan both had a thunderstorm go through though earlier, and the weather people say it's possible to hear a rumble or two of thunder when it is warm enough to rain.
Caleb, I saw on the Louisville radar site that they are warning of severe storms with isolated tornadoes, possibly like what happened on the 29th. I wonder if they may actually reach the Lexington/Richmond area, where I know you live around there and where my stomping grounds used to be. ^_^
David, do you have a shorter link? I don't think I'm able to copy all that... *_*
Jeri, I'm afraid not, however, I will embed it into my Webserver shortly and have a web page out. In about 30 minutes or so.
Currently 8 viewers watching :) Ill have the forecast discussion live on there in about 20 minutes or when ever its released.
Guy's watch south central Oklahoma tonight, this is going fun. Have fun.
Jason
Alright Yall - I got it on my own web server now.
To see the stream all you need to do is go to www.saturdayaftermath.com
This stream includes sound.
Jeri - in case you're like my mom (I had to tell her this a few weeks ago & she's been doing Internet for years!)... You might want to try this, in case this is what you meant by not being able to "copy." Click at the end of David's link (so the cursor is blinking beside the last thing in the link - the "&" mark) and then right click & HOLD. Without letting up on the right-click, move the cursor to the left; you should see the text become "highlighted". If you highlight all the text in the link and then let up on the right-click, you can then LEFT-CLICK on that highlighted stuff. A little thing will drop down and you can hit "copy." Then you go up to your address bar (where the web address is loacted) and "paste" David's link. There are a few ways in which you can paste, but the easiest is just to double-click on whatever text (if any) is already in the address bar, and then left-click. You should see that same little drop down screen, only this time you hit "paste." You should see the link in the address bar - Then hit enter & you should see David's camera.
... this is, of course, in case you (or anyone else) didn't know! :)
Oh, and guess what I did right after I left last time? I said I was going to the neighbors, right? Well, I had to ride my bike, because I locked myself out of the house! I was outside for over an hour before my husband got home! The neighbors weren't home either.
75 has been the high so far. Gusts in the 25 MPH range. Crazy cumulus action. It's frankly acting like a Moderate Risk is imminent!
This is for memphis tn...and its not even tuesday yet:
...A SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK IS LIKELY TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY NIGHT ACROSS THE MID- SOUTH...
A WARM...MOIST...AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS WILL BE IN PLACE ACROSS THE MID-SOUTH AHEAD OF A STRONG COLD FRONT THAT WILL APPROACH FROM THE WEST. A STRONG UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL MOVE OVER THE REGION TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AHEAD OF THE FRONT AND RESULT IN SEVERE THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. THESE STORMS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND TORNADOES. THE POTENTIAL WILL ALSO EXIST FOR A FEW STRONG TORNADOES. AN ADDITIONAL LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY DEVELOP ALONG AND IMMEDIATELY IN ADVANCE OF THE COLD FRONT AS IT MOVES ACROSS THE AREA TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING.
THE PRIMARY TIME FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE BETWEEN NOON CST AND 10 PM CST TUESDAY FOR AREAS WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND BETWEEN 4 PM CST TUESDAY AND 2 AM CST WEDNESDAY FOR AREAS ALONG AND EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. THE STRONG COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP EAST OF THE AREA AFTER 2 AM CST WEDNESDAY MORNING BRINGING AN END TO THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT.
ALL CITIZENS LIVING IN THE MID-SOUTH SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE LIKELIHOOD OF WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER ON TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT. BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTIONS NECESSARY TO PROTECT YOURSELF IF SEVERE WEATHER WARNINGS ARE ISSUED FOR YOUR LOCATION. SEVERE WEATHER WATCHES AND WARNINGS WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY NIGHT.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS DEVELOPING SEVERE WEATHER SITUATION.
Heidi how I envy you. Seems your area is always the place that has all the luck with the severe weather.
I'll be monitering the whole thing tonight but I hope something fires off before 1am otherwise I'll catch up with it all in the mornin
Wow, it just keeps getting stronger for me...
i will be watchin as long as i can but it sucks i have robotics around 6-9 so im goin to missin alot of events so people keep me informed sum how.
Dan - HA-HA!!!
We had a pretty crappy severe-weather year last year. Never a *real* storm in my general area.
Man, this looks like it could be extreme. Thanks for posting that, Ez =-O
AAAAAAAAA THAT'S FOR ME JAKE I'M IN THE HART OF THE TORNADO THRET!!!!!!!!! This may be simmler to Oct 18 I saw a live tornado that day!!!! good luck to myself and all the chasers that are chaseing!!!!
i know this seems weird but any one have verzion keep me informed by text?
lol, we're both in it. I just want some good pics/video of a Supercell, but if I get a tornado that's just as good, I'll just have to keep my phone with me...
BTW, I've been wondering about this for a while, but what is the phone number to report storms?
dunno i never knew number one day i will
If I get a tornado and I'm out side I'll walk around my block takeing pis/video but I bet my mom will hear the sirens so THEN I CAN'T AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA nsdfaojfjiuwr.entki I'm so exsited i could act like daffy duck gone wild!
lol i would find out of the storm before storm came to town and mabey go get further out of town to see it instead if my mom heard it and i was in house see how bad it looked and see if had enough time to go get out
Jake, you'd want to go to your National Weather Service website: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/ They might have the number on there. Usually they expect whomever is calling to identify themselves as a trained spotter, though (to keep sherffnado/methnado reports at a minimum!).
wat u mean sherffnado and methnado?
ok, only one problem... I'm not a trained spotter lol
Justin what is that? is it some type of cyclonic curculation that ouccurs in a thunderstorm?
im askin heidi becuz its in there post askin wat it is
Hey guys, come over to David's site, we need more people to talk to ;)
www.saturdayaftermath.com
Any word on Reed? Showers forming on dryline near Tulsa , with a temp of 80!
Jason
Oklahoma
looks pretty nice out there in dallas area
For those interested to know ...
Sheriffnado or methnado is a term used to describe any low-hanging cloud (usually a scud) that ends up being reported as a tornado by Joe Public or (in some cases, I've heard) the county sheriff.
Now, of course there are tons and tons of sheriffs who are excellent at reporting weather, and lots of average folks are adept at telling the difference between a funnel and a grain silo. But it happens ... it's just kind of a joke term. (Our chief Met. told me the "methnado" one ... he says he gets people calling the station when it's 40 degrees and stratus saying they just saw a tornader... get it?)
;)
lol, as part of my self-education I've seen many many many videos of tornados, so I think I'll be able to tell the difference between a tornado, and scud hehe
its pretty hard to tell if its partly rain wrapped to
Hey guys! Sounds like an awesome situation, you can be sure that I'll be keeping an eye on it, just in case something does happen in KS. I doubt anything will, but it doesn't hurt to watch. ;) I'm slightly jealous of those of you that will be directly affected... now I really can't wait for March. haha.
I have a feeling I will be waiting for initiation after midnight ughh... I haven't got paid yet so I cannot go very far. I will stay around All of N Texas.. Just have to wait and see.. Models keep slowing down..
What does "slowing down" mean? That the Cold front is slowing down, leaving more time for Supercells to develope ahead of it?
Jake slowing down means eaither the storm front dos'nt have a jetstream aloft to push it in the direction in witch the system is moveing. or the severe thunderstorms push ahead of it and possably die off because of the air diffrance.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHOLE STATE OF KY IS IN A 30% AAAAAAAA
Mid Missouri is showing some thunderstorms
He's right that could be our developeing line of storms!
your right about the storms being ahead of the system
are you new here? do you have any questions about tornadoes or severe weather?
HMMMMM those storms are makeing a MSD
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md0139.html
Mesoscale discussion out for Central MO into west Central IL/Central IL, 20miles south of my is where it cuts off...i could actually squeeze in a night chase if conditions warrant.
On a side note due to snow pack and warmer air moving in we have had Dense Dense fog all day with visibility at less than 100ft in most areas, and hundreds of accidents reported.
If there there were such thing as a "Dense Fog warning" instead of advisory, they should have issued one, and still need to issue it.
Heres the news story to this:
http://www.week.com/news/local/15283741.html
get on wunderground.com and go to regional radar
This is not a weather related question, but does have to do with humidity levels...
Does anyone know what humidity levels should be inside a home? My mother is recovering from walking pnemonia and is now starting to cough and hack again...upon talking to someone they asked if our air was dry in our home, and we may need to moisten it...our humidity level inside is 40 percent.
She asked if i knew, cuz of my weather knowledge, but i had no idea.
I'll use my GR3.
I dont like weatherunderground, or accuweather radars...
GR3 is where it is, showing hail sigs, meso's and much more, including interactive warning boxes.
Live Stream is back up, I rerounted it into the Router, so its on a eternet cord now.
Ben did'nt you see my post I already said that LOL but that's fine :)
WHOS READY FOR TOMARROW?????????!!!!!!!!
Things are often posted or brought up twice caleb...i was typing mine, as you posted yours.
Anyways...just had a small hailcore mover over my house...dime sized hail.
That line looks like a training line, anyone agree?
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I'm having an attack of laughter ... I said:
"Jeri - in case you're like my mom (I had to tell her this a few weeks ago & she's been doing Internet for years!)... OHHHHHH I can't believe what I just did. ... I got my right and left mixed up?!?!?!!!! :D :D For anyone who cares, do what I said except do the opposite when I say "left" or "right." ... What a dope! 8-P
Thanks for making it easier on everyone, David!
Yeah The one near kempton looks kinda tornadic!! Ben was a tornado warning issued?
Nope caleb, however about 15-20miles east of me now, it is showing a meso, hail core to the north, and weak rotation now, still un-warned.
AAAAAAAA look at the RUC modols or.. 4 Panel RUC 850 mb Plot in techinal terms
http://weather.unisys.com/ruc/ruc_850_4panel.html
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/ww0032.html
And boom and i am now under two types of weather watches for two very different types of weather...
I am under a Severe thunderstorm watch till 1 a.m. and a Winter Storm Watch
YES!!!....ITS TORNADO SEASON AGAIN!!!!!!!!
Reed, good luck and stay safe. I think tomorrow looks good for tornadic stoms (many likely significant) but the chase territory will be difficult with very fast storm motions.
Woo!! Tornado season!!!
Yeah Reed good luck!!!! I'll also be bike chaseing or I'll be wathing WLKY if there is a tornado warning in the lousville veiwing area evean thoug I don't love in their veiwing area....
Wow... it got quiet. Everone out chasing?
Wow...here we go!! It's nigh unto Tornado Season '08! Here's a special weather statement for counties just west of me here in VA:

Hmmm... I dunno about you guys, but I think I like the four cells in MO right now.
Needless to say I'm here.
I'm pretty much perpetually here untill some big weather breaks out in maryland or even ohio next week when I'm home on leave.
Happy chases!
(ssshhhhh, you guys! We're supposed to be making Reed & Joel think we're staging a revolt because they won't update us on their ideas for tomorrow!!! ;D ;P)
SEVERE STUDIOS IS CHASING TOMMOROW!
(lol, gotcha Hiedi ;) )
Right smack in the dead center of Exam Week for the Calculus II course I'm teaching /=
I've gotta stay put yet again.
Dude... I'm having enough trouble with Algebra 1... I don't even want to think about Calculus, or calc 2...
Looks like severestudios.com has a chaser going out tomorrow and will be streaming live video. Is anyone else giong to Tennesse to chase tomorrow? Could be a bad day for weather, especially with super tuesday tomorrow.
I'm seeing quite the lightning show off in the distance from the window of my dorm room in St. Louis. The skies are really clear still so I have a nice view off to the northwest where all the storms are.
I am still holding out for a atleast a decent electrical storm in OK during the early morning hours tonight. RUC, WRF, and GFS seem to all to support this. Good wind shear, increasing CAPE and enough forcing works for me. All three show precip breaking out before sunrise as well. Everything is in my vehicle and ready to go, now as long as I dont fall asleep.
Yeah, if anyone is chasing in TN tomorrow, I might try to head out to meet some of you :D
I am one to Speculate that Reed and Joel or another one of the tornadovideos.net crew are already set up somewhere along or the mississippi river or the Ozarks/bootheel area. Pouring over model data, and talking to friends who have graduated and are working for the NWS and other chasers.
*whistles*
lol, that's true, they may have been on the road all day.
Ohh, I just saw the Extreme tornado tours site, man I wish I could go... but there's no way I could ever afford $2k lol.
Though one thing I'd like to know, what is the age requirement?
yeah that would pretty much be the coolest week ever...and if you happened to see a tornado it would be even better
lol, Even if I didn't see a tornado, just meeting them would be enough. So it looks like I need to get a job.
Ok, new day 1 outlook is out, but no HIGH risk yet... Though I am in a 15% chance for a tornado! Wootz!!
usely go by your self is 18 but younger for some if wit parent or guidaridian over 21 and is that reed's chasing or no?
wow from looks of it it is reed's chasing group didn't know he had one
I'm right near where MyNameIsBen lives, and yeah its been extremely foggy allday. yesterday it was thundersleet, today its thunderfog...bizarre to say the least? any explanations on the whole thundersnow thing?
Good luck with the storms/chasing everyone!!!!
I'm sitting here, about to go to sleep under many blankets, freezing in this -40 weather!
At least think of me while you all enjoy some heat :P
Wow, I go and basically marathon an anime series tonight, and come back to see the huge line of storms that stretches from Ohio all the way back to Missouri. o_o
http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/centgrtlakes.php
I wonder, will this help to destabilize things for tomorrow's action to occur?
Everyone going chasing tomorrow, good luck but stay safe, ne? ^_^
Anyone up at this hour, I have a supercell (That lone one). Its coming pretty much right at me lol, I mean it too.
I have the live cam back up, already have some weird weather going on, with some sudden wind gusts.
www.saturdayaftermath.com
Well it looks im in the slight rish area in East TN. Also it looks like Ill get those storms late again, they usually do fizzle out by the time they get here this time of the year. Though is something does happen way over I may try to get it. I got a digital camera for Christmas so Im hoping i get to use it for some storms this year. Well I should head to bed, so yall have a good one and be safe.
I should be in bed ... but I'm watching David's SkyCam! It seems to be raining and windy now.
I have an ominous feeling about today ... not sure which way this is going to go at this point. I think Reed & Joel are probably still in OK, and are going to make target area decision early this AM sometime. That's my guess.
