5-9 inches of snow has already fallen across parts of eastern PA, northern NJ, and across the NYC Metro Area, with the highest totals reported from the Staten Island area. However, the precipitation has already begun changing over to sleet and freezing rain as an area of warm air just above the surface advects northward. The regional radar image from 16z show below as well as surface obs show the freezing line still off-shore the NYC Metro area, suggesting that ice accumulations will be a problem as the snow changes over to freezing rain.

A mesoscale discussion has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for the likelihood of hourly ice accumulation rates approaching 0.10" per hour from eastern PA across the NYC Metro Area this afternoon. With up to 9 inches of snow already on the ground, the travel situation in this area could be ugly for the evening rush hour.

is this the first signifigant snowfall in the NYC metro area this year?
This is off topic but did anyone see the refininery in Big Spring, TX that caught fire and blew up? My dad worked at it about a year ago before transferring to Tenn. A guy he worked with sent some pictures, after seeing them its amazing no one was killed. Just click my name for the link to the photos.
Where at in TN Josh?
The fire was in Big Spring, TX. But he works in Memphis at Valero. they live in Hernando, MS and he drives in, I think its only 15 min. Where do you live in Tenn?
ahh, about 2 hours away from them I think. I live just off the TN river.
Are you around Jackson?
Yeah this is the first "big" snowstorm to hit NYC this year. The main roads are clear in the Bronx for the most part now(I live in the Bronx). Though side streets always seem to get the shaft. And when the plows do come down your block your car gets piled in. It's like maybe 5-7inches on the ground. So it's nothing totally major, but it is the most so far this year.
no, I'm farther east then that. in Humphreys county.
A bit offtopic, but one of the nicest and biggest waterspouts I have ever seen on video:

Jake, there's a possibility the SPC will upgrade to slight risk in a portion of the "SEE TEXT" area. I kind of expect them to, also.
and the Oscar goes to.....Tornado Fury!
I'm thinking (more like guessing) that the main threat in my area will be wind damage, but it'll probably a low chance, if any.
I'm glad to know that I wasn't totally off on my guess though :)
Nothing is going on!!
lol, I know JY. I'm so bored!!
well, look on the bright side, at least with the weather so dull no one is getting hurt.
