News DetailStrong tornadoes possible today along the Central Gulf Coast!

As the system responsible for yesterday's embarrassing chase moves east across the Southern U.S. today, several bands of convection will move through the Central Gulf Coast along and ahead of the cold front. With a 40-50 knot LLJ ahead of the cold front, low-level shear will be favorable for tornadoes with any discrete supercells that forum. The LLJ may be a bit veered for strong tornadoes today, but a small change in surface wind and/or storm motion could easily change that. The RUC forecast CAPE and 850 mb pattern for 22z (4:00 pm CST) are displayed below:

While we may be in a bit of a lull in the convective activity across the Central Gulf Coast as of 8:00 am CST, a tornado watch is still in effect until 1:00 pm for much of southern AL and extreme southeastern MS. However, further convective development is anticipated by late morning/early afternoon across this region.

Given the relatively large uncapped and sufficiently unstable warm sector ahead of this cold front, as well as the immense low-level shear, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a 10% area for tornadoes, with a hatched area for possible strong tornadoes as well. Stay tuned for more updates as this severe weather event unfolds!

Base velocity shows a nice circulation area west of Pensacola, FL. In the last couple of minutes though it seems like the storm is taking a more linear structure.
Wow, not linear anymore. The storm now northwest of Pensacola, FL is showing a nice hook echo.

Yeah Gerb it may have been if the whole neighborhood has damage the downdrafs may have landed there or a tornado happend. I would have said a tornado. or it could have been a quick tornado that touched down on his neighborhood and ended there and didn't do any damage any wear elce. it could have even been a strong gustnado.
Nothing on the SPC for his immediate area yet but he is close to Selma etc...
SELMA? they got hit pretty bad! is he ok? is there anyone injerd in his neighborhood?
That same cell just sparked a tornado emergancy
my fiacee is in snellville just ne of atlanta. its getting nasty.
just watching http://www.wsfa.com/ seems like there's a few tornadoes going... hope all is well and no one seriously hurt.... these things fasinate me, and I find I'm constantly watching here for more vids
Jason was in Troy and the tornado missed him by about 5 miles!
JY reports air conditioning units thrown through homes somewhere in the FL Panhandle along the damage path. The couplet on that monster was incredible! Hopefully people were underground and knew this was coming
I've been on the road and haven't been able to follow too closely...has anyone seen pictures?
Reed ha ha ha maby he didn't know that there was a tornado on the ground. man I'm watching 2 live feeds one from alanta and one from montgomery. geez that "S" shaped segment looks VERY tornadic. this is capeable of doing hoible damage.
man this makes me mad i look at the reports at 3 and there are already 13 tornadoes with like 15 active warnings...everytime i go out and chase theres not a warning til 5 and then it gets dark and hour later. boo
CNN HQ is now under a tornado warning
That also includes TWC, so I have to say it must be unnerving to report on national weather when you're in the tornado warning itself. Just so many tornado reports from AL earlier, and now the line is starting to move into Georgia and FL. Hope they are monitoring the weather alerts and all.
Gotta go guys see ya'll tomarrow!
Uh-oh... thats a name I didn't want to see in a warning again.
AT 401 PM CST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DESTRUCTIVE WINDS
IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE

MILES NORTHWEST OF ENTERPRISE...AND MOVING EAST AT 55 MPH.
Enterprise, AL doesn't need any more severe weather for a long time... Thank god its not tornado warned
A tornado did touchdown in the Pratville, Millbrook area (which is located just outside of Montgomery). There were report of some injuries at the Walmart in Pratville and overturned cars but thank god no reports of any fatalities...
Wow, there's a tornado warning for Clark and Champaign counties in Ohio, very far away from the main action in the Gulf States.

that supercell that is now north of macon, Ga. has been going on for 5 to 6 hours now. i started watching it when it was just sw of troy!
Matt, that is the same cell that was in the FL panhandle at one time! =-O
hmmm... I have relatives that are on vacation in Gulf Shores right now, I hope they're ok...
Matt Chat, you are a slacker! That storm as Heidi mentioned was in the Florida Panhandle... and came out of the Gulf into SW Alabama.
Active weather here today along the Gulf Coast! I have been covering it since 5 AM this morning. We have damage in my area, but fortunately no one was injured.
Sound like you were on a roll JY, seems like we need to move tornado alley east!
Reed tell Jason I tryed to warn him.
The Montgomery Advertiser has several storm damage photo galleries on their website:

Just scroll down a little bit and you'll see them on the left.
What the hell was up with that supercell? I just got in from leave and noticed that big line went through and now here in maryland its friggin 64 degrees.
Anywho this cell formed just off the coast then moved inland to the east of pennsacola then went northeast into alabama causing tornado after tornado.
Just how long did that supercell go on for?
