Hey. I am confused about the forum rules. Ok, what if I post maps of my own forecast on events. You said cite the location it came from. If I did that, and did a link back to the source, that's what? Running into another rule of drawing traffic to another website. Out of the loop here on confusion on that. I still want to participate, but also post my maps, maybe embedded, not links, during events and help out on the discussions about them, or chases.
Suggestions please..Thanks.

MARTIN

Wow! I'm liking the changes Reed and Co. Ok back to hibernating til we reach 60 degrees F, or the day we get at least 4" of snow..

I'm pretty sure Reed won't mind you posting your own maps - I think their main idea here with his requirement to link, is for people to not use other people's ideas without properly citing the source, sort of like the rules schools use for good researching or at least making sure the teachers know you're not passing off someone's work as your own :)

Let's say you're chasing a storm with GRLevel3, and you wanna post a nice, nasty hook you're seeing. Screencap it, load it, and just say "this is the hook echo from GRLevel3 that I took 5 minutes ago. I think this thing should go TOR personally because of blah blah xyz factors." As long as, say, a moderator or other member here doesn't immediately recognize it as copying someone else's screenshot and analysis from Doswell's private group or something, you're just fine.

Same kind of goes for linking stuff - they're here also to sell their own videos and seats for their tours, after all, and they can't very well have you (or anyone else) linking to some DVD you're selling, or to a link who's obvious purpose is to get people to end up at the DVD you're selling. If indeed Reed wants you to post links to your own material despite what I conjectured, then just pointing to the part of your website where you uploaded it would probably suffice - it's showing off your own merchandise that's probably not allowed unless Reed decides to have a forum for his "competition" to specifically sell stuff. :)

This is all of course guesswork on my part and doesn't necessarily reflect the way Reed actually feels, but I've seen his posts and talked with him a few times through other means, and although he's going to have some hardline rules here, it's not going to be as narrow as say Stormfront.

I just shot Reed a text message to get the status on why all the forums are inactive other than the rules. Please check back in a bit.

As far as the rules are concerned, I am sure they will evolve a bit. As a rule of thumb I would say this:

1. If it is someone else content - cite it.
2. If it is an advertisement or a plug for someone another site related to what we do - don't post it.
3. Don't use the forums as a place to rant or degrade anyone.

In general, just use common sense. We want this to be an open community for everyone who wants to be involved, but we will take a hard line when it comes to abuse.

Thanks!

Sound good. So as long as we are not being A$$es we should be okay?

On a weather note, I am in KS and we are not supposed to have any type of weather today, SO WHERE IS THIS SNOW COMING FROM?!?!?!?!?!? I so want Dave Freeman's job. - He's a great weather guy, but what's up with the snow?

Reed I have a question that maybe you can answer for me. I have been studying weather for a long time and I used to intern at the TV weather stations and still don't understand this. Why is it so much harder to forcast winter weather than it is to forcast Summer weather. I just don't get what is so different between rain and snow.

ohhh Winter Storm Warning :D

A low pressure system from northern British Columbia is expected to slide through southwestern Saskatchewan Wednesday morning. Snow will spread through these regions ahead of this low tonight and persist into Wednesday. Total snow amounts will generally be around 10 cm but local amounts of 15 or even 20 cm are possible.

As well, brisk winds will accompany this system giving reduced visibilities at times in blowing snow. The strongest blowing snow will occur around Regina and throughout the Wascana Basin on Wednesday with southeast winds of 40 gusting to 60 km/h.

The snow and blowing snow will taper off during the day on Wednesday as this system moves into the Dakotas.
