The highest snow totals I could find from the recent winter storm were in Southeast Wisconsin, where enhancement from Lake Michigan helped produce 6-10 inches of snow. The cold northeasterly flow behind the low-pressure system resulted in lake enhanced snows much of yesterday afternoon and evening downwind of Lake Michigan in eastern WI, with the dominant band setting up from Milwaukee into northern Illinois. Here are pictures from Tyler Schiller of Waukesha, WI, where 7 inches was on the ground this morning. There was likely much more snowfall, but the warm lower atmosphere and ground temperatures resulted in some melting. If anyone else has pictures of the snow it would be great if we could post them to the blog!

Reed,
Snow is great I love winter, make a lot of money plowing snow. What you do is awsome though, my father inlaw and I are addicted to storm chasers an decided in may we're going to give it a try in OK. Maybe we'll see your trucks and follow you to the good storms.
Wuts up guys, big fan! I never realized u did snow storms, just a heads up, as if u haven't heard already, more snow comin saturday in Chicago, they say up to 9 inches. I'll try to get some pics for u guys. Good luck next tornado season!
Snow + car = good times + danger + fun
snow is a blast i love it just dont like the cold
WOW very pretty pictures! I would love to see that kind of snow down here in Oklahoma.. Which reminds me. Is anyone watching the potential arctic blast poised to take over the nation next week???
Snow is beautiful, especially when it's not where you live!
I'd just have to say I LOVE SNOW!!! It's so pretty and I was wondering how do forecasters determine how many inches of snow we're suppose to get? I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and everyone was calling for 6+ inches but in reality we only got 3. I was hoping for six.
In New York we only got about two inches of snow with the rest as rain.
As for the arctic blast, the models keep bouncing around with it but it looks like there could be a deep plunge of very cold air into the states. One model I can see is showing 850 mb temperatures down to -30 or colder across MT and WY by the middle of next week! Highs would struggle to get above zero at that temperature!
I live in Waukesha also and I got about the same in my yard although the winds were gusting to around 30 mph so there was drifting. Interestingly, around 11pm last night as we were getting the wind and heavy snow with about 4"+ on the ground and rising, just a few miles to the east in Milwaukee they had only a rain/snow mix with no accumulation thanks to Lake Michigan.
We were pounded by lake enhanced snow bands and the largest totals (8"-10") were in a narrow NE to SW swath 20-25 miles west of Milwaukee.
Reed- I sent ya a few shots from Northern Michigan- Take care
Hey Reed,
I noticed on a few of the episodes when it started to hail really hard you would put your finger to the windshield. Didn't you watch Mythbusters, they showed that it was a myth.
I am sad. Its cold and dry here in Norman.
I havent seen much on the artic blast, i spose if your not used to 20's i guess you could call it an artic blast... here in MN forcast for the next 7 or so days has highs in the mid 20's with lows in the teens, pretty typical this time of year... who knows maybe something will change... we got about 2 inches of snow here yesturday and they said it was supposed to be a dusting, and we are expected to get another 1-2 tomorrow night into wednesday with this next clipper system
Surprise..!! here in the western U.P. of michigan..6 inches of new snow...supposed to be a dusting..too...like MN...but the lake effect kicked in...now the forecast out of Duluth,mn..is for south shore..{ northern wis, western U.P. of mich.} lake effect snow thru wednesday...6-10 inches...maybe...its a fast moving clipper system..so we'll just have to see.....
yeah its quick moving... but the news out of the Twin cities i heard tonight is that it was expected to move quickly then slow way down over I90/MN-Iowa border... be nice if it would slow down early and get alittle more moisture from the south... gonna be warm here tomorrow during the day
Lucky Wisconsin. Hopefully one of these clippers cold air sets up a good coastal storm! I cannot wait to see if eastern Pennsylvania gets a white Christmas.
*jealous* haha
I have some pics of the snow buildup at the farm, but none of that is new!!
If you want to see just how little snow there is in this province I got pics up on Myspace...
The models are still hinting at some very cold air arriving sometime next week. However, timing and strength appear to be an issue as the cold air does not look "as" impressive as it did yesterday... maybe that'll change by the 18z runs.
I am really hoping to get a good snowstorm down here... its a bit tiresome to hear that all the northern people are getting all the cold and snow. I just wish for once the southern plains could have a TRUE winter:(
I live in Milwaukee, and only got 4" or so. How did Waukesha (farther from the lake) get 7"?
hey Zack, dont worry, when the next ice age comes around, you guys should get a good winter haha
Reed- you mentioned the "blog" is that different than this page? I sent ya a few snow shots to your email. Shawn
Milwaukee saw a longer duration of rain & snow which cut down on snow amounts. Also, lake enhancement from Lake Michigan played a big role as to how much snow accumulated throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
Get ready though, more SNOW is on the way across the upper midwest on Wednesday!
Yeah you guys up in the U.P. of Michigan Stole our snow the low was supposed to track around the OHIO+Pennsylvania border and it turned!!! I so needed a snow day! I already have a Scheduled
2 Hour Delay Tomorrow, so I guess that's fine, and were supposed to get hit by that Snowstorm that is very fast! Expecting only 2-4" but it will be the first actual snowfall that sticks others have, but gotten rained on and melted. Have A Great Day Today Guys/Girls. -Brandon
Nice photos, Tyler! I hope we get that much snow sometime this year! 8)
Lived in muskego for over 22 years (se waukesha co) now live in burlington racine co) we got at most 3 to 4 inches
I live in Kenosha,WI and we only got about 2- 3 inches. The day started off with just rain then it was mixed and then just snow and then it stopped for a few minutes and then more snow again and it didn't start to stick and get packy until later at night anywhere from around 12 Midnight and 2am. And the wind was relentless all night until morning it calmed down and went away.
I just heard this afternoon were supposed to get 4-5 inches of Snow on Wednesday. So more snow coming tomorrow.
Hi, great pictures! I'm from Charleston, IL in East Central, IL and we had about 3 inches fall over the course of the entire day. I just looked outside and its almost already melted.
MORE SNOW in Wisconsin!
BIG SNOW STARTING NOW IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN- REED IF I GET ANY GOOD SHOTS I WILL SEND THEM YOUR WAY. ( calling for a foot+ in the snow belts) Shawn
