Above is the latest video update from Dean in Mt. Shasta City, CA from last night just after the first wave of precipitation.  He's currently in the process of taping another video update, as the precipitation with the main show is now moving in with two inches of slushy snow in the last hour.  Right now, northern CA is receiving intense warm advection precip ahead of the cold front, which has resulted in a temporary increase in the snow levels over the mountains.  Thus, the precip at Mt. Shasta has more recently changed over to a rain/snow mix.  This will change as the cold front moves through, and conditions will be INSANE at Dean's location.  Shown below is the radar loop from around 8-9:00 am PST as the heavy precip shield was moving in to Mt. Shasta.

Below is a link for the live webcam on top of Mt. Shasta, along with the current temperature and meteogram.  Based on the meteogram, temperatures have been remaining nearly steady if not falling slightly through the overnight hours into this morning, but a sharp decrease in temperature is expected as the cold front nears.  Stay tuned for more video updates from Dean in Mt. Shasta!

Wow 10 feet that would just be nuts. They would ski until July out there. Good money for the ski/tourist industry which has been down as of late and for the water supply but the melt and mudslides and flooding when it melts will not be good.
Here in Ohio after a low of 8 it is sunny and warming up to 35 or so today. Tomorrow brings a mix or rain and sleet and a high of 41 before we touch the 60's early next week. That cold in the Arctic has to make a push one of these day does it not?

After a night of intermittent rain/snow mix and mod/hvy snow, then a morning of mainly and occasional bursts of hvy rain/snow mix, we've switched to moderate snow... ALL snow for a change and I think this marks a permanant change through the end of this event, so I'll begin to see more significant accumulations from this point on.

Another video updates is being processed and will be up shortly.

UPDATE...

Reed is processing my latest video update. Should be up soon. Only received a fraction of forecast snow last night (ie about 7 inches)... most fell with a few heavy snow bursts. VERY wet snow which got compressed and "slushed" by heavy rain afterwards. Total slushfest MESS around here.

Heavy Snow Warning 4 tonight as snow levels finally drop. I'll be here another night to document. We shall see.

thanks for the video comments :)

It'll be very interesting to see how much snow you end up with after the temp. drops. I look froward to the rest of the videos. Nice job with this one - you should see if you can find those same people for the video after this all turns to snow. I'd be especially interested to see their reactions if you end up getting a HUGE total!

California Blizzard Update! Comment Posted By justin | January 4, 2008 @ 11:44 PM #
