A cold front that has stalled out over central OK, in combination with tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Henrietta that made landfall over Baja Peninsula, Mexico last week, has resulted in flooding rains overnight in north-central Oklahoma.  Nearly 5 inches of rain has fallen in Major County, OK already, with another 1-2+ inches expected over the next few hours as storms continue to train over the same areas.  Shown below is the TLX radar as of 6:00 am CDT:

The Oklahoma Mesonet data below shows the rain that has fallen over central and northern Oklahoma as of 6:00 am CDT!

Accordingly, flood watches and warnings have been issued for much of Oklahoma, southern Missouri, and northwest Arkansas through today and tonight, where several more inches of rain could fall.  Keep in mind that many of the flood warnings in western and north-central OK are not displayed in the map below.  Stay tuned for more updates throughout the day on this potentially dangerous weather situation!

This rain that's slopping up Oklahoma was supposed to arrive here overnight. We're in the flood watch of course, but now I am wondering if we'll get any significant rain at all from this, since the whole mass of rain seems to be scooting (that's right, I said SCOOTING!) off in a more northeasterly fashion. Sheesh. I mean, I don't want to have people being rescued from trees again, but sometimes you get psyched up for a big event and then NOTHING!!! :-D

Is the Sooner Schooner gonna be spinning up ruts in the field with all the rain?

REGIONAL WEATHER DISCUSSION...

AT 1 PM...RADAR DATA INDICATED ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
OVER SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA...GENERALLY ALONG A LINE FROM COALGATE
TO TISHOMINGO TO MADILL AND MARIETTA. THE STORMS WERE MOVING TO
EAST AND NORTHEAST AROUND 25 MPH.

AFTERNOON HEATING...ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
AND WESTERN NORTH TEXAS WILL RESULT IN WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS

lmao just wondering probably going to sound like an idiot here but what effect on the weather does high pressure and low pressure have?

MAJOR flooding in north-central OK! Comment Posted By Reed | September 8, 2007 @ 2:43 PM #

Speaking of OK weather.

Anyone see the front that is forecast to come down here next week?

The GFS was forecasting lows in the 40s by Tuesday. Could be INSANE!

That ice storm in Eufala was nuts...Norman should have gotten the brunt of it but the cold air was deeper than forecast and we got mainly sleet.. Eastern OK was shut down for awhile after that.

There was an ice storm just northwest of OKC a few years ago with several inches of ice accumulation...you can still see the effects of that storm when storm chasing out there..the trees are badly damaged if not completely dead.

MAJOR flooding in north-central OK! Comment Posted By AJ | September 8, 2007 @ 2:50 PM #

Yeah Reed, I saw the forecast, and I agree: it's nuts!

High pressure and low pressure affect the weather in ALOT of way... I'll let Reed, the house expert, explain, cause I don't wanna sound like an idiot either. lol

Caleb it is possible to find your first-ever comment, but we'd need to know roughly when you first left that comment. Like, what month/year ... :)

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Snow

It's starting to rain pretty hard here again too. Looks like it will last a good while. I hope it doesn't cause problems for the A-STATE game vs. Memphis.

You guys who live in areas here armadillos occur ... if you live in the country, you know EXACTLY why they are the scourge of the earth. If you live in a town or a development or something, then you probably have NO IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They dig HUGE holes you your yard, destroy landscaping, cause injuries to livestock. And they multiply almost as bad as rabbits. Besides that, they're almost completely deaf and blind, so you can walk right up to them and pick them up by their tails, or practice your punt skills if you're so inclined.

svkdfghjkfvlfjdv; look I did it too!

It would happen with a pitchfork, Zack. Almost did the other night.

And if I killed 300 armadillos, a bronze likeness of myself would be raised in a prominent place. And on that day, there would be no school for all Arkansas children.

Latest report on Gabrielle:

TROPICAL STORM GABRIELLE DISCUSSION NUMBER 4
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL072007
500 PM EDT SAT SEP 08 2007

AFTER BEING BRIEFLY INVOLVED WITH THE CIRCULATION CENTER THIS
MORNING...THE CONVECTION HAS SPENT MOST OF THE DAY QUITE SEPARATED
FROM THE CENTER...AND THE BAND IN THE NORTHEASTERN QUADRANT HAS
DISSIPATED. RECENTLY...HOWEVER...THE CIRCULATION CENTER AND THE
REMAINING CONVECTION IN THE NORTHWESTERN QUADRANT ARE IN THE
PROCESS OF BEING REUNITED. GABRIELLE HAS TAKEN ON MORE OF
THE APPEARANCE OF A SHEARED TROPICAL CYCLONE...AND BOTH AMSU AND
AIRCRAFT DATA SUGGEST THERE IS A WEAK WARM CORE...SO GABRIELLE IS
BEING DESIGNATED AS A TROPICAL STORM ON THIS ADVISORY. MAXIMUM
WINDS FROM THE AIR FORCE PLANE AT THE FLIGHT-LEVEL OF ABOUT 1000 FT
WERE ONLY 39 KT...EVEN WITHIN THE CONVECTION IN THE NORTHWESTERN
QUADRANT. GIVEN THOSE DATA AND THE OVERALL LESSENING OF THE
CONVECTIVE DEPTH AND COVERAGE...THE INTENSITY IS LOWERED TO 35 KT.
THE CURRENT SOUTHEASTERLY SHEAR MIGHT STILL LESSEN TEMPORARILY
TONIGHT...BUT WILL INCREASE FROM THE NORTH TOMORROW. THAT WINDOW
OF OPPORTUNITY FOR STRENGTHENING IS THE BASIS FOR THE OFFICIAL
FORECAST TO STILL CALL FOR SLIGHT STRENGTHENING. THE NEW FORECAST
IS LOWERED COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS ADVISORY...CALLING FOR
GABRIELLE TO REACH ONLY 45 KT NEAR THE COAST OF NORTH
CAROLINA...AND THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH MOST OF THE GUIDANCE.
LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST ONCE GABRIELLE TURNS
NORTHEASTWARD AND EVENTUALLY BECOMES EXTRATROPICAL.

THE EXPOSED CIRCULATION CENTER IS EASY TO FIND...BUT THE SMALLER
SWIRL THAT APPEARS TO BE THE CENTER ON SATELLITE IMAGERY SEEMS TO
HAVE ROTATED ABOUT A LARGER MEAN CENTER DURING THE DAY. THE MOTION
OF THE MEAN CENTER IS NORTHWESTWARD AND SLOWER THAN BEFORE...OR
ROUGHLY 320/7. THE OFFICIAL TRACK FORECAST AND SUPPORTING
REASONING HAVE NOT NOTICEABLY CHANGED...WITH GABRIELLE EXPECTED TO
ROTATE AROUND THE WESTERN ATLANTIC RIDGE AND INTO THE MIDLATITUDE
WESTERLIES DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...PASSING NEAR OR OVER THE
OUTER BANKS OF NORTH CAROLINA ALONG THE WAY IN 24-36 HOURS. THE
NEW FORECAST ALSO CALLS FOR GABRIELLE TO BE ABSORBED BY A LARGER
SYSTEM OVER THE NORTH ATLANTIC BY 120 HOURS.

FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS
