Click the link below for video of a Hurricane Hunter mission into the eye of Category 5 Hurricane Felix early in the morning of September 3. The best part of the video is during the last few minutes, when still photos of the eye from the aircraft are displayed. The eye was only 10 miles across at the time of this mission! More information on this flight is provided at HurricaneHunters.com.

Hey ya'll, my post about the severe thunderstorm warning, and asked Reed if he was feeling the storm in Norman. WELL............ about that, I'm am so srry I posted a storm in montana and I meant to post one in Oklahoma!
The one I listed in this post above is the right one ;)
Reed, r u feeling this storm in Norman??????????
hey Heidi, how are you doing in Araknsas? (I see there's some flash flood watchs in effect).
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/lzk/
;)
Yeah!! St.Louis County is pretty big!! We need to find out what the largest county in the U.S. is?? This County has to be up there!!
Hey guys, check out this vid.
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/243627/tornado/
;)
Oh, yeah, I kinda forgot, tell me what you think of the vid!
Yeah, I was just thinking about posting something ... I am sitting here waiting for the rain to happen. If you want to know what flash-flooding is like here, read what I said on the previous blog entry. :D I am hearing that we could get something like 4 inches, so that would be pretty humongous. We've only had rains that huge two times since we've been here. The LAST time it happened was the night that Reed was here and got a tornado (see last September's Ozark chase log). After the tornado part of things was over for us that day, the supercells congeiled into a HUGE rain-making mess that just sat over us and the counties north and east of here. The county just east of us got like 12" in 5 hrs or something, and people were having to be rescued from trees. There were I think 3 fatalities. We "only" got 4-5" but it was catastrophic for some of the farmers anyway.
Take a look at Coconino Co. AZ or Elko Co. NV. Big.
Hey Heidi, your bridge commentary was hilarious!
Hi everyone! Anything special?
Going to catch some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs c 'ya guys tomarow!
;)
Not much Caro. Caleb played an early April's Day joke, that's about it!
I reckon I could've done a bit better, mmm hmmm.
Guys like I said Sorry For lieing earlyler.
Anyone wanna know what the largest counties in the US are?

Well guys I'me going to go ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
cya
From AAAAAAAA to ZZZZZZZZ!
Heidi, if you're still here, run the latest 20-scan loop on that cell in Montana, it's interesting how it is moving in a different direction than the other stuff in the area, and then collides with that other system
Yeah, I'm still here. I was just watching the video Reed posted at the top of this entry (duh, I am just now getting to it) and am trying to figure out how they got the angle on the photos at the end. The plane must have been on a steep bank or something???
Sorry to change the subject, but my trial ended on grl3 and I am curious as to how many people actually bought it. I'm trying to decide if its worth it or not. Love the program, but the season is slowly coming to an end and I might not use it much until spring. Better if I get some other opinions.
Thanks in advance.
Strike, if you really do love weather, go for it, it's totally worth it. I thought about the same thing for weeks and months, and now that I have bought it I have no idea why I waited so long.
I bought it - after researching other forums to make sure it was the program of choice! Looking forward to the Fall tornado season
Crap! I hit refresh and now my message is gone. :-(
Joe, I took a look at the Montana storm but by the time I got there the scans were not the same as the ones you were looking at. I could see generally what you meant, but I couldn't see the one cell going in a different direction as noticeably as you said.
GR is a great product!! I can't wait to use it in the boat (WIV) next season!!
How bout using it on a chase? anyone get to do that yet?
I'm buying a new laptop for my shop anyway so I'm thinking I might set it up for chases. Good tax write off, so what the hell.
I guess its cheap enough, but I want to make sure that's the best one out there. Know what I mean?
I am pretty sure that GR is what most chasers use. It was actually first recommended to me by the chief meteorologist for our home station, too. He has it on his machine.
Where are you loacted Strike? I'm sure you've mentioned this before but I can't remember...
that was supposed to say LOCATED not loacted. 8-/
Strike, haven't used it yet on a real chase, just virtual chases. Still need to get a mobile internet plan.
One useful thing about it is that if you get a GPS and tie it to the GR, you can see your location on the GR screen in rel'n to the storm.
Before I bought it I searched pretty hard to make sure it was the right one to get... in terms of what do most chasers use.. SevereWX is a competitive product and also has a free trial too so you could run that one for the next few weeks
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
However, the Grand Forks ND radar goes just north enough for me to use on southern Manitoba storms.
We have our own radar, but its very lame.
Thanks Joe, I'll try that one out.
Yeah I've heard about how lame the canada radar is. see if this helps HD1G-6W2X
*actually I don't remember if that other program is called SevereWX or not, AJ would know because he has it.
BREAKING NEWS!!! It's extraordinarily muggy and an armadillo just clanged against the downspout.
Strike it's SwiftWX ^
It helped. Thanks.
Isn't and armadillo just a porcupine without quills?
Now for some REAL breaking news... Subtropical Storm Gabrielle just formed!!!
What's the purpose of an armadillo anyway? I looked up a photo of one and it looked like a small dinosaur. Are they edible?
;) possum on the half-shell is what us Arkansas folk call 'em. Just did it again, the little heathen!
Arrunt you gunna blow it up?
Sorry, couldn't resist
Joe, if you ever find out the "purpose" for armadillos, other than destroying landscaping and injuring livestock (they step in their holes), please alert the National News Media at once.
We've reached a point where when we see one as road kill, it's cause for a small celebration. We saw one today that looked like some ya-hoo busted it with a .375. There was a pretty big hole in the side of it, lemme tell ya! :-D
Strike, we've already "blown up" 10 of them since May, and they keep coming back. It's hopeless. I beat on one with a shovel the other night, after I kicked it. It's probably the same one that's out there right now. I ought to go get a pitchfork ...
I am now stopping all armadillo talk! :-D
Hey whats up guys!!
Zack, it appears that Heidi would like to kill all the armadillos.
I guess thats about it.
According to Wiki they are spreading too! "The armadillo crossed the Rio Grande from Mexico prior to the 20th century; by 1995 the species had become well-established in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, and had been sighted as far afield as Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. A decade later, the armadillo had become established in all of those areas and continued its migration, being sighted as far north as southern Nebraska, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky. ... It is speculated that the northern expansion of the armadillo will continue until the species reaches as far north as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey and all points southward on the East Coast of the United States."
Hey Heidi, being from Texas, we are also infested with armadillos. It happens to be the state animal or something... Have you figured out why the tend to sleep in the middle of the road with their feet up in the air?
By the way, once I was playing golf when my ball got interrupted mid-bounce by an armadillo
I just scanned through the armadillo recipes. They actually sound pretty tasty! If they are just walking into your yard saying "Eat me," why not?
I keep a rattlesnake recipe in my flyfishing kit, in case I ever catch one while camping. Never had a chance to try it yet. They're supposed to taste like chicken.
Interrupting the golf game?! UNACCEPTABLE!!! Start packing a bazooka in your bag, Connor.
Some people do eat them, but they are also known to carry leprosy.
I will try not to say anything else about armadillos. That's ALL!!!
Hey! Hurricane watch for Norman, OK tomorrow.
I think I'll watch it on ABC @ 11:00 AM (Central)
Well people, I think its beer-o'-clock.
I've been at work for 15 hours now. I think its time to leave.
catch y'all later.
Whats up w/ Hiedi and Armadillos????
Anyway, the rain is here! Big time storms moving in from the west!!! Flash flood watch in effect until further notice. 3-6"+ likely for me. AAAAAHHHH!!
Great video. Those hurricane hunters are crazy, right before they went into the eye they hit an updraft then a downdraft, thats why the red light kept coming on. Just insane to do that at night, but it saves lives. They should make more videos like that. Looks like they may have some more storms to fly into soon.
Hey there Mark, hows it going?
HEEELLLOOO???? is anybody there?
Oh well then, I'm out:-P
HEEELLLOOO???? is anybody there?
Oh well then, I'm out:-P
Hey hey!! Whats up?? I'm back and I'm sober!=(
It's only 10:34 here. The night's barely begun
It's early here too!! Bars arnt closed yet!! I still have a few hours, but I gots to werk at 9!
I don't hit the bars much at night anymore. I do like to go into my favorite redneck taverns on Sunday morning for the 10AM NFL game, get a big ol lumberjack omelet, join all the betting pools, hang out for the 1PM game, etc. God Bless America!
The bars are much funner when you don't go to them everyday!! It seems to be the same with drinking in general!! I'd rather just fined myself a place in the sticks and do my beer guzzlin there!! The WIV is a great place to get hammed too!
Wow Joe!! Sounds like Minny!! hehe
Do you crank up George Thoroughgood while you do it? "I drink alone" heheh, love that tune.
When I'm staying on my boat, that part of town is called Ballard, with a large Norwegian population. The dive I usually go to for Sunday games is called The Viking. Out where I am right now, by the mountains, there are all kinds of podunk taverns great for football watchin
Sounds like Minny Alright!! Minus the mountains!! All though i do live on top of a pretty good hill!!
There are so many Norwegians here, that the marina where I'm at has a gigantic statue of Leif Ericson looking out over Puget Sound... which is kinda funny since he never got near the NW. They also sell lutefisk (sp?) in some of the shops... never tried it, not sure I want to. Out here in the old logging towns, they have gigantic old tree saws hanging on the walls
Hey y'all, looks like I missed a few things ;) Yeah Joe, the buff logo does look like it has twisters coming out of it... I guess I've never looked at them THAT way before. haha.
btw, the Buffs won, 28 to 13 against Ulysses, which is rare, because Ulysses is like, ranked # 2 in the state!
It sounds just like Duluth!! Leif Ericson park!! Which is right on the lake shore! Hwy 61 which goes follows the north shore all the way to Canada sounds just like what your describing! Like the stereotypical Northwoods of Minnesota!
Saws on the walls next to moose heads! Smoked lake trout stands everywhere!! And alotta lutefisk eating Nords!
Congrats! How did the photography thing go? Did you get any shots of the players this time or did you just zoom in on the cheerleaders again?
haha. Hey, the cheerleaders are important to the game also! ;) Actually, I used a camcorder. It worked pretty well... no wind, surprisingly, and the stadium lights actually came on this time, so I hope it'll look good!
He was looking to the sky in hopes of a tornado even though the stars are shinning!! hehe
Eh... possibly Brady. lol. The sunset tonite was really pretty though... lots of pinks and reds. Oh, and did I mention the cheerleaders? lol ;)
Wow!! It's a cool but beautiful night!! 55f could be worse!!
Yeah! It's supposed to get progressively cooler over the next week, which means more paintballing, and maybe getting the 4-wheelers out again :D Those haven't been used since July!
Yeah, I love September and October. Cooler weather, football is here, and kids are back in school so if you go camping or whatever there are hardly any people
Haha! Last time I went camping was on Labor Day, and we borrowed a friend's camper trailer, towed it to Salida, Colorado, and all the campgrounds were closed for some odd reason! So we had to park the camper in the Wal-Mart parking lot, wait for our buddy to come get it, and spend the night in a hotel anyway! lol Good times though...
My mom keeps talking about looking for employment out there!! She don't make squat here! I've been encouraging her to go!!
There's a mini sub-culture of people who camp out in Wal-Mart parking lots with their RVs. I guess Wal-Mart doesn't care.
Out in Colorado or Kansas Brady? If in Col., then she could always find a job in tourism, no problem. In Kan., well, then it'd be a little tougher. My mom just barely got her job at a K-State extention office.
Out where? (your mom). Colorado?
Hell, Wal-Mart must love it!! Otherwise, where would they get outside business? ;)
Hey AJ, if ya wanna camp like a real man! come talk to me!! Or Joe! We'll teach ya how to " rough it"! hehe
Can I bring my quad along? It only takes up a truck bed Brady ;)
She wants to look at Seattle!! I'm just being tardy with my posts!
Tardy? More like slow ;) jk. Well, Joe knows more about Seattle than anyone here, so take it away Mr. Surfer!
One of my favorite tricks when I go backpacking with a buddy is, a couple days in, when he's not looking, stuff a big old rock in his backpack, then watch him sweat for a couple miles before telling him about it. Of course it only works once!
Hell ya bring the quad (ATVTIV) with! hehe
And a fishing rod and a good firearm of some sorts! I like 12ga and .45ACP!!
Lotsa jobs out here Brady. Great city. Of course the housing prices are much higher and rush hour traffic is real bad.
HAHA!! I'll have to try that one!! hehe
AJ: Bring your paintball gun too!! We like to get hammerd and go paint up the woods by my ol cabin!! The terrain is so rough back there it's kinda like Nam!!
Hey Brady you got to work in the morning!
