Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba!

Severe thunderstorm watches have been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for central NE north to ND, and by Environment Canada for south-central Manitoba for this afternoon and evening, as a jet streak ejects northeastward through the eastern side of a massive trough.  Straight-line winds and marginally severe hail will be the main threat, since instability and low-level shear will be lacking, esp. for the U.S. watch box.  There will be a small chance for tornadoes further north over extreme southern MB later today, but it is doubtful.  Good luck chasing!

Cells finally moving northeast into eastern MB.. hopefully something develops.. unfortunately the clouds moved further east and prevented some of the daytime heating as well I think.

Awesome. Cross your fingers people. Hey everyone, hope you had a good weekend!

I got excited when I had ILC's building over my house, but then the stupid upper level wind came up and sheared them to nothing :(

Tim, are you going out if anything pops?

Nevermind. You answered my question

Latest radar shows something popping west of Morden MB

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Tim | September 23, 2007 @ 6:34 PM #

Threw the echo top static shot I use in my tag link. It's off the NavCanada site and updates on the 2's every 10 minutes (6:32, 42, 52, 02). It's got a better shot of where everything's developing before it starts actually raining.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By AJ | September 23, 2007 @ 6:35 PM #

Good luck Tim!! Go get 'em. May I ask what type of car it is? Just curious.

Sorry Susan, only a mild chuckle here. ;)

Cool Tim. Didn't know that existed. Much more information than EC radar has.

It sucks waiting for something to happen.

Looks like a cell is growing just south of Carman MB. Might be time to head down Highway 3?

Input from anyone would be cool.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By AJ | September 23, 2007 @ 7:20 PM #

Go for it Strike. Since I live in Kansas, methinks it'd be too far for me to travel. lol

Is there a radar pic or velocity scan available?

Click my name for EC's radar site. If you look at the loop there is a cell popping between Morden and Winnipeg.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By AJ | September 23, 2007 @ 7:26 PM #

I see it, barely. lol I bet it's more impressive in person than on radar. I'd give it a couple more minutes, and then get ready to get on the highway ;)

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Strike | September 23, 2007 @ 7:28 PM #

It actually looks way bigger on GR3 from the Grand Forks radar site.

Either way, I'm not going anywhere until I see prettier colors on radar.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By AJ | September 23, 2007 @ 7:30 PM #

*Pulls up GR3...

Yeah, it looks better there. haha And yes, pretty colors help in making the decision ;)

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Strike | September 23, 2007 @ 7:34 PM #

Its almost dark here now, so I'm probably going to give up pretty soon if nothing really nasty happens. Looks like its coming my way anyway.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Tim | September 23, 2007 @ 7:36 PM #

Well that was a waste of time. Wasn't going to Steinbach, got out to the perimeter, took a look around, decided to head back, started turning around and the watches ended west of here haha.

It's a Buick Century FYI.. (Old people's car.. but it's got power everything and leather interior ;D)

Strike.. don't go chasing blues and purples on the Nav echo haha. Until it gets to orange I -generally- don't chase it... cept logic left me this evening.. I'm gonna blame severe weather withdrawl.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Strike | September 23, 2007 @ 7:39 PM #

I feel your pain.

Looks like that cell coming north on highway 3 is sticking together. Might hit the southwest perimeter.

Still only a couple of lightning strikes, so its not intense at all.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Tim | September 23, 2007 @ 7:42 PM #

Nahh it's all just wimpy stuff under 30,000 feet.

Found an old radar echo top of a tornado warning we had in Steinbach back in July haha. Link's in my tag.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Tim | September 23, 2007 @ 7:43 PM #

Correction.. June 26... I can read the date off a radar pic.. Yay me!

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Strike | September 23, 2007 @ 7:45 PM #

Hey. Hate to tell you this, but we got orange on the latest scan.

Grand Forks, ND, set a new record high today of 92. The previous record was 88 set back in 1958. I can't believe that it's still 86 here.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Brady MN | September 23, 2007 @ 9:05 PM #

I've had family in just about every war since WW1 and probably before! I'm always up for a good war movie or documentary!! Especially on the war that everyone agreed needed to be fought!!

Hey Brady,

I just spent the whole weekend down on Canal Park, and completely fogot to tell you we were coming.

Sorry, I suck. Anyway, what a great day to be up there for the fall color and the weather. Dang that lake is LOW.

Could tomorrow night be our last hurrah for this year's severe weather?????

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Brady MN | September 23, 2007 @ 10:42 PM #

I hope you had a good time!! The weather couldn't be any better! Yeah I've never seen the lake this low!! It's got me worried!!=(
It's been like a lil vacation for me!! To go chasing around that crazy stuff like that and then to come back and relax in this late summer!!

Hopefully something can happen tomorrow!! It would be great to make another trip!! I'm ready 2 roll just in case!!

Hey Brady MN what software do you use to put your video's together? I need to put some together but I need some software to transition the small DVD from my camcorder similar to what you did with yours. Any help is greatly appreciated. Monty

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By tim jacobs | September 24, 2007 @ 8:59 AM #

hey guys im at school at the moment......
the storm from this morning caused a load of damage here trees felll on roads twigs flying evrywhere...... we must of had winds in excess of 50 mph.....
thankfully the science department at my school let me borrow a camera and get some pics of the damage will upload the pics when i get home......

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Brady MN | September 24, 2007 @ 10:04 AM #

Hey all!! I just got up!! Man I love my sleep!! hehe

Monty: The only software I have is Kodak easyshare! and it's like v 1.0!! My cam makes MOV file vid's. ( not too impressed) I just upload it to my computer with that. Then I uploaded my pic's and vid to photobucket.com( not too impressed either), but it works!! It's pretty simple to figure out! I didn't do anything to special at all! The hardest part was getting the slideshow to end perfect with the music!! I am kinda amazed How good it came out for my first!! I'm glad you liked it!!

Hey Tim!! That's great about the weather over there!!=) I can't wait to see what you captured!! I hope everyone's ok!! Did you see the pic I took of the busted tree in Pine City?? My first Tornado Aftermath pic! That tree was quite messed up!!

Severe Thunderstorm Watches issued: Central/Northern Plains and Manitoba! Comment Posted By Brady MN | September 24, 2007 @ 10:21 AM #

I see why you like the classical Reed! I don't see Mozart sewing ya for copyright violations anytime soon!! hehe Also think of it this way!! You could brake out one of your vid's 50yrs from know, and the music will still be appropriate!! Also even the people who don't like classical shouldn't be offended by the soundtrack!!

Anybody have any thoughts on here today?? Tornado threat doesn't look very good, but if we can get some more lightning I'll make a little drive!! 555
