Hey Reed and T-Vids crew!
Thanks for the blog update. I'm in position in Wenzhou now and expecting landfall in about 9 hours. Agencies all going for more or less a direct hit on my location. It's gonna be middle of the night local time which sucks but hopefully I'll still be able to film the windows buckling and the winds roaring!
More updates to come.....
Hold on tight, James! 8-O We look forward to seeing your footage!
Here's what the AP is saying:
SHANGHAI, China - China evacuated 200,000 people on Tuesday and closed schools in its largest city to prepare for what forecasters say will be the most powerful typhoon to hit Shanghai in a decade.
The fringes of Typhoon Wipha lashed northern Taiwan, where schools, offices and the stock market closed. A construction worker was killed when the storm's winds — projected to reach 180 mph at the storm's height — knocked down scaffolding, Taiwan's Disaster Relief Center said.
City authorities ordered schools closed Wednesday in Shanghai, a city of more than 20 million and China's financial hub. Chinese state-run television showed families being evacuated from their fishing boats and other vessels. Shopkeepers stacked sand bags to prevent flooding as drains clogged amid torrential rains.
The typhoon, whipping up waves up to 36 feet high, was moving northwest toward the Chinese mainland. Weather reports forecast it would make landfall south of Shanghai early Wednesday morning.
Wipha, a woman's name in Thai, was upgraded from a tropical storm Monday.
"The typhoon is very likely to develop into the worst one in recent years," said a man who answered the phone at the city's meteorological bureau. As is common with Chinese officials, the man identified himself only by his surname, Fu.
Shanghai and the coastal provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian to the south issued typhoon warnings requiring all vessels to return to shore or change course to avoid the storm, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
Some 200,000 people living in coastal or low-lying rural areas of Shanghai were being evacuated, as were parts of Zhejiang, Xinhua said.
It said nearly 30,000 fishing boats in the province had taken shelter in port by late Monday and ferry service with outlying islands was suspended.
The deadliest storm to hit the China coast in recent years was Typhoon Winnie in 1997, which killed 236 people. Typhoon Rananim, with winds of more than 100 mph, was the strongest typhoon to hit the Chinese mainland since 1956, killing nearly 200 people.
good luck james!
Thanks for the comments guys. Weather is pretty benign at the moment. The eye has jogged north over the last hour which will bring it closer to my location. JMA have it at 85kts (10 min average) and JTWC 120kts. More updates to come....
HEHE!!! Ya! Sorry about the language!! Put a few beers in me and I don't shut up!! This ones a lil better!!^^
I need a better cam for this stuff!!
Yesterday was the biggest bust ever!! 7 Severe reports nationwide! Only one report of hail in the state of Minnesota. Very sad :(

Yeah!! It was kind of a bust alright!! The lightning was amazing, and the rain got kinda fierce, but I didn't see any hail!! I drove almost to Aitkin!! I'm glad I drove!! Duluth didn't really get anything but a little rain!! It's been raining all morning!! It must be the first time all year it's rain this long!! hehe
Nice Brady!
Good luck out there James...thanks a lot for the updates! If you need anything just let us know.
James what is the storm surge potential at your location?
Even though the winds have come down slightly I bet there will still be a cat 5 surge.
Good Luck again James!! Stay safe!! I'm looking forward to see what ya bring back!!
Thanx Reed!! I thought they were kinda shabby myself!!
My friend Steph came over with a 6pk right when I was about to leave!! So I made her ride with!! hehe

Wow!! That first pic is awesome!! I thought they were pretty good myself!! I like the streaks of red too!! Good tune as well!!
I figured out how to save images from my vids!! ^^

Hey Tim at least u got pics of your chase. If been on 3 chases and still dont have one picture its pretty sad. I have 4 pics from my parents bedroom thats it.
thats not bad matt with that storm i started off taking pictures from my parents bedroom but it was too far away had to bike about 3 miles to even get close to it and that still wasn'y close enough lol
Through I dont particulry care about canada at all... Here ya go.
The Ellie F4 Tornado has been upgraded to a F5. Canada's First (congratulations)

Here's an update on the August 26th mini-outbreak in North Dakota/Minnesota that produced the Northwood storm. (Lack of interesting weather lately has me bored, as you can see). There are some pics on here that I hadn't seen before.
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/fgf/?n=northwood_tor_track
Good luck James!!
Hey guys, what's up? Nice job Brady, looked awesome! To Matt and Tim: Been there, done that, and I was sad for quite awhile. lol Also, it's nice and sunny in SW Kansas too, dangit.
hey im back the elie tornado has just been called an f5 by enviroment canada my name has the link
Good luck James, wish you well hope you have a safe and successful chase! Look forward to updates :)
or this
Sorry Yall, I got it here first :P
May I reccomend you read before you post ;)
Canada's first ever ef5. thats kinda wierd they would change the rating after 3 months.
hey AJ.....lol yeh aint good lol but i dont see anything wrong with it lol can get some good pics from that height lol :P
The Elie tornado was on the ground for about 35 minutes, and traveled for a distance of about 5.5 km. Damage occurred in a swath up to 300 metres wide. Wind speeds are estimated to have reached between 420 to 510 km/h when the tornado was at its most intense.
insane! you knew it was intense from the insane ground circulation in some of the videos on you tube.
And the thing is that tornado wasnt that big in size. Just proves they dont have to be 2 miles wide to be powerful tornados.
I guess Canada doesn't particularly read David Reimer's posts at all.
Yeah!! Andrew!! I'm still a little ticked I didn't chase that night!! I had got some ok lightning vid of that storm as it passed over at about 4:30am!! Here's a crappy screenshot I got from that night!!^^
I just read the first link Gus posted, and I have a question for you Canadian folks: What does it mean to say "When the hydro goes off?" Is "hydro" electricity? an alarm? a siren? Somebody tell us?
(I'm having trouble with tags in my text, so sorry if this ends up looking funny.)
Hehe!! And another while I'm at it!!
Ya Heidi it means electricty
Thanks Matt - that was my first guess, but I wanted to make sure. I had never seen/heard electricity called hydro before. (obviously) :D
Heidi: hydro = hydroelectric power
We harness our rivers for electricity.
Hey i have a question about a pic that i took back on July 19th. The cloud is very low and i was wondering what it was. Click my name to see pic.
it is a good pic matt.... it just looks like some low level cloed to me i could be wrong see what anyone else says
Yeah, Strike, I kind of suspected that! :D We do that sort of thing here too (especially in Arkansas) but we still use way too much coal power.
Ya to bad the houses are in the way thought. If i had my car at that time i would have chased that storm. But didnt get my car until the end of July.
ohh just a bit late then....did anything come of that storm do you know?
Great pic Matt!! Is there any lakes or water near that cloud?? Sometimes after a quick rain, clouds like that lift up from the bay and the lake just south of me!!
were the clouds lifting or rotating at all??
Tim- Im not sure if anything came out of that storm because when i took that pic the storm was about to end for my area anyway.
Brady- No the closet lake to me is lake simcoe which is about 30 minutes away.
Brady i could tell if they were rotating from were i was and the lack of experience that i had then and still do wasnt the greatest.
Oh and i forgot to mention lake Ontario which is about 1.5 hours away
ah right so you didn't miss out on anything then think o way.....
Cool pic Matt! I'm pretty sure that was just low level rotating scud, but I'm no expert, and claim not to be. Ask the pro (Reed) next time we can catch him online. ;)
i wonder where joe is haven't heard from him for a while...... was gunna tell him about the weather prediction report he showed me for England..... we both said that it probably wont happen and that we dont believe in his methods but the wi has picked up over the last few days and the temperature has fallen by 10* over 4 days so maybe lol
Hmm... I like the pic anyway!! I usually end up chasing everything I can!! Sometimes even clouds That aren't producing anything at all as long as they look neat!! Like this!!^^
lmao brady thats an ace storm
Very cool Brady! To quote Dick McGowan, the chaser in Olathe, Kansas, I am such a "structure whore". lol It doesn't have to produce any rain or wind, but if it looks extremely cool, I'm enthralled anyways. ;)
I'm Kinda worried about Joe too!! If he don't post on here soon I might call him just to make sure he's okay!!
see the thing is were i live it is very tree lined and i live in a valley so i really cant see storms coming until basicly there right over top of me. Anyways im out for dinner be back soon
im starting to think you were right brady he may well of gone camping or something like that lol..... he must be bursting to blog!! :D
Joe! Where are you?! lol
lol let's hope he shows up soon....
anyway guys im off speak to ya all tomorrow have a good one !!!
It barely produced any rain!! I chased that cloud from Duluth half way to Canada!! Then I drove to Eau Claire Wisconsin after that just cuz I was hard up for a storm!! I got my lightning fix that night!! hehe
Have fun Tim!! Good job on the slide show!!
Laters Tim! I'm also out for the evening guys, I'll try to be back later on.
See ya!
Take er easy AJ!! I need to run and take care of some business myself!! I'm sure I'll be back to flood the blog with my jibber jabber!!
Here's another from the Northwood storm!! I'll be back!!
AJ, Brady, Yall must have way to much time on your hands, or no Instant Messenger's to use lol
Guys guys!!!!!
They just said on the TWN that the F4 in Manitoba back in june is Now confirmed an F5!!!!!!
More video came in and it show a house being thrown a long distance.
HOLY COW!! WE HAVE TORNADO WARNINGS!! ITASCA COUNTY!! And I'm outta gas!!
Yup brady...tornado reported on the ground
That's so sad Brady. You might want to think about using your beer monies for gas! :-D
wall cloud also reported with the WI storm
That looks not too bad at all on GR3, too!
Brady You better find away to gas er up, or start hoofin it! Just make sure your camera works!
both of those warnings are nowhere near the slight risk...and not even in the 2% tornado risk...
That would be a good idea! lol I'll be back in a bit!!
Even if he wanted to...no way he could catch these storms in time...too far away from him....dont look too horribly impressive on radar either
For those of you with GR3, play the loop on the CR 248 out of Duluth - you can see the rotation. This is EF-0, EF-1 type stuff, but still, Brady is DESPERATE!!! :-D
Almost forgot!

Since this mean the elie tornado was an F5 this should be put up on the main page.
Just think tornado videos.net chased the strongest bunch of twisters in Canadian history.
Ryan, you should write down your password and then when you go to "the fiancees house" you can permanantly download it there. :D
Brady, you need to buy gas now!! aslhfldsh.
David, I think it's a combination of both. lol
LOL, i wish heidi...her computer wont run it...wayyyy too slow...
The major news networks are basically not covering the typhoon. I just tried to get an update by checking CNN, etc., and they still have the same AP story up that was on there early this morning. Sheesh. :-/
Sorry guys I was playing and wresaling with my friends Whats up?

MOST DANGEROUS PORTION OF THE STORM WAS LOCATED JUST NORTHEAST OF
HIGHWAY 53 BETWEN GHEEN AND COOK... AND WAS NEARLY STATIONARY.
NEARLY STATIONARY
That's always some wordage that worries me, especially when there's lots of rain involved. It floods down here too easily, like it did last nite with that gully-washer we had.
*chirp-chirp
So does anyone know where braddddy is?
Yeah AJ, they have flash flood warnings out for that area now too. The tornado warning has been dropped, almost as soon as I posted it!
I think we were left to assume that he had taken off after the tornado-warned storm to his northeast. How he accomplished this without gasoline funds remains to be seen, however.
that should have said northwest, not northeast. :P
the code is VERY close to my last zipcode this time - 85642 :D
I was just watching bradys video and my video buffered on a awesome lightning shot...i got a print screen...and saved to to windows clipbook...showed i edit it out and save the pic for him? and if so i kinda suck with this type of shit.
Anyone watching that line in Kansas right now?
Looks interesting.
Yeah Strike, I saw it. It went off on my SwiftWX. There's some flood watches and the sort, but nothing really serious, like rotation or a gust front... lol
Hopefully Brady isn't stuck with an empty tank somewhere. hehe
He always seems to have fuel issues.
Well, hope he gets back soon.
I'm out for the nite guys, laters!!
Here are two pictures of the screen capture i got during a buffer of bradys video...The first one is NOT enhanced and the SECOND one IS ENHANCED.

^VIDEO CREDIT TO BRADY, EDITING CREDIT TO ME. I suck at watermarks.
HEHE!! Yeah! It's a lil wet here!! I was hoping there would be some lightning! Not the case!!=( I just went passed Floodwood a little bit!! I know I would have never caught that storm!! I seen a cloud that was straight verticle, Huge as hell and almost all the way to the ground!! It's scared the S@#@t outta me!! The wind picked up for a min then it just kinda went really horizontal and just spread out !!Could it have been a funnel?? I've never seen a cloud like that before!!
Hey! Great job on the pic Ben!! I wish I coulda done a little better on the lightning ( some streaks woulda been nice)!!
I was perfectly between 3 storms, one to my north, one west, and one south so I didn't wanna move!!
I don't know what that was I just seen, but it was freaky!!
I was right at the corner of Hwy2 and Hwy 65!! some time just after 9!!
I hope James is doing good!!
brady that sounds amazing.....the winds you felt could of been an outdraft lol ;).....maybe dont know alot lol.....im off got school now so will be back on about 9 o'clock lol
