TCDAT4Here is a satellite image of Hurricane Humberto from peak intensity, at around 1:30 am CDT. The Weather Channel reported frequent lightning with the eyewall of Humberto! It is likely that if Humberto had more time over the warm Gulf of Mexico waters, it could have become a rather significant hurricane.

Ian,
"I got to Roll Over Pass which is about 20 miles from where it made landfall. No really hard rain, no reall strong winds. Occasional gusts, but just not that impressive."
It's possible part of the problem was the compactness of the storm, pretty much requiring a guy to be just NE of the center to catch it good... and that region looked pretty unpopulated on the map (swampy?)
Nice work getting there... I remember somebody named Ian had said they were from the Houston area and wondering if you'd make it!
Hey, why did my last comment a couple minutes ago wind up at the top of the blog instead of at the bottom??
LOL at Cors. Whatever dude.
Yay I got a digi cam finally! for free to ^^ given by a friend. Now I'm waiting for something nice to come. Also if this thing can last till next summer, I can show you guys how bike chasing is!
The SPC says 5% of a tornado in LA from Hamberto.
Oooh oooh, does this sound cool or what? ^^
Arrr arrr arrr
Waite a sec I just posted something and now it's gone!
That storm chaser car show looks awesome. Reed, the car you have a photo of on your MySpace page with the duct tape on the hood would probably win the Meat Wagon Award if you got it back from the junk yard! :-D
I need to check the water vapor image, but I believe I am seeing the outer bands of Humberto over me right now! Cool!
"In Louisiana," ^ "state police said there were minor injuries reported after a house was knocked off its foundation in Vermilion Parish early Thursday morning, possibly by a tornado spawned by Humberto as the storm approached the state."
hey guys anything going on??
yeh cors just look at felix aswell that hurricane intesified so intesivly over 51 hours it was unbelievable.
( sorry for any missplelt words )
hey just looking over the comments posted this could just be my computer messing around but some of the posts arent in time order ive just posted something and it has come up arounf the middle??
if anyone else sees this then say something please
Tim dude.
"sorry for any missplelt words"
What to say.
FYI, Jason the All-Powerful Webmeister knows that the new blog entries after 1PM are appearing at the top instead of the bottom so it should be fixed sometime soon!
Why can't we post?
haha. No kidding Cors. Hey everyone, what's up?
My environmental science class had a cool discussion that lead from Humberto, to stronger storms, to global warming. I love that class :)
joe you see what i mean at first i thought there was something wrong with my comp but there is definetly something up.....
haha. Whoa, that's strange. Go to the middle for new posts. ;)
haha this is different :P i wonder whats gone on for this to happen then.....
hey AJ .... cheers for the documentries you told me about esturday twister fury on the plains was good lol
Tim, there's nothing wrong with your computer (except for your spell-checker, perhaps, ya goof). Jason said he'd try to get this thing fixed later today.
No problem Tim, that's one of my personal favs also. :D
I wonder if Connor in Plano is feeling any effects from Humberto... ?
AJ Aren't you happy?! I can finally show you how Bike chasing is! :)
lmao ...thanks joe :D yeh spelling isn't one of my strong points lol
Use Firefox, my man. It has a built-in spell-checker now, so that if you misspell something even when typing in a blog field, it underlines it in red!
For all I know, IE has one too, but this feature just popped up in Firefox for me a couple months ago.
lol thanks joe again you seem to be helping me with a lot of stuff lol
ow this is a cool video....a tornado in a forrest fire
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=af7_1189291200
KENNY!! What's happening dude? And of course I'm happy, I get to check out extreme bike chasing action. lol
Are all those storms initiating in the south right now triggered by Humberto?
im off guys speak to you all tomorrow see ya!!
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS WERE TRACKING A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO 6 MILES SOUTH OF CHURCH HILL...OR ABOUT 10 MILES NORTHEAST OF NATCHEZ...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 20 MPH. * THE TORNADO WILL BE NEAR... STAMPLEY AND CHURCH HILL BY 530 PM CDT... FAYETTE BY 550 PM CDT... LORMAN AND RED LICK BY 600 PM CDT... HEAVY RAINFALL MAY OBSCURE THIS TORNADO. TAKE COVER NOW! IF YOU WAIT TO SEE OR HEAR IT COMING...IT MAY BE TOO LATE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE. THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE DURING A TORNADO IS IN A BASEMENT. GET UNDER A WORKBENCH OR OTHER PIECE OF STURDY FURNITURE. IF NO BASEMENT IS AVAILABLE...SEEK SHELTER ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING IN AN INTERIOR HALLWAY OR ROOM SUCH AS A CLOSET. USE BLANKETS OR PILLOWS TO COVER YOUR BODY AND ALWAYS STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS
no one here I guess...
Hey Hey!! How has everybody been?? What is heck is up with this blog???
And Why the hell d o Severe storm warnings only go off when I'm at work??=( Nothing good happened here anyway!!
You're right Heidi, I definitely need to get the Lumina back from the junk yard.
We used to pack 5 people in there for every storm chase...and to keep the temperature down, we had to drive the heater on full power even in 100 degree heat. That thing was brutal to storm chase in.
I'm not used to severe Tstorms in mid 40 degree weather!! It looks like a warm up and some more possible storms next week!! Maybe my season aint over!!
Lol!! One of my very good buddies had a early 90's lumina. That thing was such a POS... but it always ran!! It had like a quarter of a million miles.!! We gave it Mexican Chrome ( duct tape speed stripes)!! Birns back memories of the good ol days!! hehe
3.1 Euro baby!! with the bad head gaskets and all!! hehe

Hi Caro! Cool, Tropical Storm Ingrid! I hope she's cute!
Hi Joe! Do you know what is the problem with our posts??? Why do they appear in the middle ???
Do you thing Ingrid will intensify???
Well...I'm out now...going to bed to give a pause to my mind so it will be in shape to finish my painting tomorrow! Hey Joe! I didn't found a picture of a tornado surrounded by a autumn landscape so I created one...I hope the result will be good!
This thing is screwin with my head!! lol
It is freakin cold out! Brrrr!! It was 31f (.5c) on my way home from the bar last night! =( Everyone I know had to brake out the winter jackets!! ish!!
That makes me wish I still had the first vehicle I ever bought. It was a used Datsun diesel pickup, long-bed. That's right, Datsun, not Nissan. I put a quarter of a million miles on it. I had three different canopies for it, at different times. The first one I bought at a junkyard for $70, right before me and two buddies took a trip down to Mexico and back... the canopy was mismatched in size, but it was enough for us to sleep in the back!
Before the trip (get this) I sawed off the stick-shift down low, giving us enough legroom for all three of us to sit up front! Then, for years, I had to put up with a very short stick-shift. The edges where I sawed it were sharp and almost cut your palm when you shifted. One time I tried wadding enough electrical tape around it to create a knob. That didn't last very long. Another time I tried buying a used knob at a junkyard, but it was too loose and always popped off in my hand. Most of the time it was knobless.
The second canopy came blowing off (because I didn't bolt enough bolts on it) when I was driving in high wind just before getting to Snoqualmie Pass in WA. At the time, there were two of us in front, and three buddies in back, in sleeping bags (can you say road trip). The canopy got thrashed by the wind, so we pulled it to the side of the highway, dumped some rocks in it so it wouldn't blow around anymore, and continued on. The guys in the back froze their a*ses off as we went over the pass because it was near winter!
The thing about diesels is that the engines vibrate a lot, so eventually things break that are attached to the engine. One time I was fishing on the other side of Mt Rainier, and the exhaust manifold cracked, right next to the engine. I drove it all the way back to Seattle with the exhaust coming straight out of the engine! It sounded like I was driving a big rig.
Also, since diesels draw a lot of juice during the starting process, I would often burn out the starting wires. There were several months when I would have to literally start the engine by lifting the hood and holding a beefy screw driver across the contacts! I still have that screwdriver and it's all charred. Eventually I bypassed the solenoid with a push-button, so to start the car I pressed this big beefy button inside the car.
But I didn't have high enough gauge wiring the first time. I was on a rafting trip with some buddies, and I pressed the button, and the wiring burned out and short circuited, and the wires caught on fire, and kept on burning, all the way through the dashboard while we were sitting there. It was just like that scene in "Money Pit."
When I was getting near 1/4 million miles, everything started going out at once... the clutch, the starter, brakes, and something else that I can't remember. But I wanted to make it to 1/4 million miles before I got rid of it, so I intentionally drove it to the Canadian border and back, knowing that I could never turn it off at any point. I had to put diesel in it with the engine running. My intent was to turn around just before getting to Customs, but I misjudged where the turning point was, and couldn't turn around until after I passed through Customs, and had to come back through. On the way back in, the line was longer, and as I was waiting to get checked, smoke was boiling out of the engine because the clutch was burning up! When the guy came out to check me, eying the smoke suspiciously, I told him the true story (thinking I was going to get pulled out of line and shut down) but he believed my story and let me through... made it home with exactly 250,005 miles on the odometer!
Wound up selling it to a guy for $10 who came and towed it away.
Why do we love our first vehicles so much? Sniff.
Hey Caro, we luv your tornado art! Can't wait to see it!
Also, I forget to add to my story, the big problem before I got rid of it was that second gear didn't work anymore. I had to shift straight from 1st to 3rd. Plus, it would "pop out" of 5th gear, unless I physically held the shaft of the shifter in 5th with my right hand. I can remember driving for miles pressing down on that sawed-off shaft with the edge cutting into my palm, until I got tired of it and drove in 4th for awhile. Sorry for the long post but memories are great!
Nowadays I drive a 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup, longbed (not king cab). Great vehicle. That is the beast that is going to be decked out this winter as a chase vehicle.
Oh yes, I just remembered why I couldn't start that old Datsun anymore, while making that trip to Canada and back. (Sorry kids, but the older you get, the more memory goes.) I had to light up the glowplugs, press in the clutch, then coast it downhill (poor man's push start) and let out the clutch to get it started to begin with.
Check it out guys, positive thats a snow cloud seeing how it was +5 the high and apparently we had snow a couple times today at home, when I wasnt here! :(

Why it's smart to be nice to your tornado sirens ^
Whoa! Nice rainbow, SKgirl!
Joe, your Datsun story makes me think that it needs a movie in its honor. Great story :D

INCREDIBLE on radar! Did you see the loop on this post yet Joe? I just added it a few minutes ago.
It's amazing how compact it is.
Mike Seidel on TWC reported frequent lightning with the eyewall. This would have been a great one to experience.
Hopefully somebody got some footage of the lightning as the eye went over. That would be sweet.
This hurricane has some minor significance... first hurricane to make landfall in the US since 2005, if I'm not mistaken.
To be honest, this one was kinda a dud. I went East last night (from south of Houston) trying to get in front of it. I got to Roll Over Pass which is about 20 miles from where it made landfall. No really hard rain, no reall strong winds. Occasional gusts, but just not that impressive. I past the weather channel on the way, they where set up next to a ditch that really didn't drain anywhere, so the water was pooling up in it, I couldn't tell which reporter it was but he was standing in the ditch.LOL. No water on the roads power was still intact. There was some lightning, but the whole thing reminded me of a large thunderstorm. The area it came in at is not that populated so I couldn't really get in there. The pics I got are horrible, but there really wasn't much to see.
Oh, well maybe next time.
hmmmm. I think someone kinda blew our forecast today, lol. Check out what just popped up over me. 1 inch hail too.
Link not working, try this.
Interesting...
1100 AM EDT THU SEP 13 2007
BASED ON OPERATIONAL ESTIMATES...HUMBERTO STRENGTHENED FROM A 30 KT
DEPRESSION AT 15Z YESTERDAY TO A 75 KT HURRICANE AT 09Z THIS
MORNING...AN INCREASE OF 45 KT IN 18 HOURS. TO PUT THIS
DEVELOPMENT IN PERSPECTIVE...NO TROPICAL CYCLONE IN THE HISTORICAL
RECORD HAS EVER REACHED THIS INTENSITY AT A FASTER RATE NEAR LANDFALL. IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW...SOMEDAY...WHY THIS HAPPENED.
global warming..
