Since there is very little in the way of exciting weather anywhere right now, I thought I'd post an incredible video of the Elie, Manitoba tornado from June 22, 2007 on Youtube. For those of you that don't know, this tornado was rated an F-4, and happened the day before the tornado we intercepted near Pipestone, MB.
Nice video Reed,
Here an other video of that same tornado, but filmed from the highway with a cellphone.
http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=u2dIDdA4YU0
This is probably the best video of that day, really cool u see the tornado form and fall apart.
http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=32L5OtnIPGk&mode=related&search=
This is still the best video ever! ;-)
http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=kEUXr6FMtWk&mode=related&search=
What a beautifull tornado did u chase there, i've watched that video so many times, but everytime i notice something i didn't see before. That tornado is sucking in dust from so far, amazing what a force.
He has luck:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7GlSgu3IL0
Nothing to add. Just insane.
I agree Wouter, that video is definetely the best one out there for that day. You see it form, rope out, get bigger, and it even shows it hitting the town. There are a couple of power flashes too. Reed, that one is crazy too tho, but I like watching stuff from start to finish. Also the person catches another tornado that formed I guess nearby this one just after the first one died out.
Here is the title:
F4 Tornado in Elie, MB Devastates Part of town & F3 Tornado
Wouter, I agree - the link you posted for the Elie tornado was great. I sent a message to the guy who made it - hopefully he comes by and tells us his "story." The video you posted, Reed, reminds me of the infamous Pampa, Texas tornado, being that close and with all the debris. 8-O
Man that is a sick video. Im very disapointed that i didnt get any video of the storms that came through yesterday but man there was some good lightning
Great idee Heidi, tornado stories are for me as exciting as the videos. I remember Reed posting a story on here of a truckdriver who got trapped in a gas station in Greensburg when the F5 struck him. Amazing story
Might be our last chance for goodies this summer in Alberta... today/tomorrow :(

Thanks for the video Wouter! They sound like storm chasers...I wonder where they're based out of. It's interesting how it appeared to rope out and then reform and increase in size. You can also see the second tornadic supercell in the distance. I bet the lake breezes played a role on this day.
Are you going to chase today PB?
I don't think so Reed, too far north for me.
Think I'll wait and see if anything starts up a bit closer.
Cap might be too strong anyway?
WRF shows some cape here but capped off.
Lots of wind. Maybe too much?
Hoping for something anyway.
Hey Reed I think this ^^ is that tornado.
I just got hit by a pop up storm
hey reed ... great video there amzing
Hey everyone! Awesome video Reed! It's awful similar to Pampa, like Heidi said, but also a little bit like Andover too, I think...
What's the weather doing out there people?
Well AJ pop up storms as i just said. I just got hit by one about 30min ago is tat enough
PS i can see the anvil now
Cool. Send some to Kansas, I need some action besides popcorn clouds. ;)
LOL You are lucker than me!!!!!!!! at least you get at least 30 tornadoes a year....I only get 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More info on the Northwood tornado:
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/fgf/?n=northwood_tor_track
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE PA HAS ISSUED A

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR SINKING
VALLEY...OR NEAR TYRONE...MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 20 MPH.
Nice Caleb! Sinking Valley? I wonder what that place is like geographically... hmm.... ;)
I still think that the Northwood tornado might have had multiple vortexes... wasn't that the consensus on here yesterday?
Yes indeed AJ it did have at least 2 multi vortexes. that is waat caused most of the damage.
Ok, thanks Caleb. One question answered for the day :) Now I wonder if I'll get caught in any storms forming over the Rockies on the weekend... those are some of the most photogenic storms.
Wow! Amazing. Almost looks like the 1995 Pampa, TX tornado. Small but intense.
Wouter, that video link is amazing. It's rare one can see a tornado from the start to finish. And I mean come on, there's a second tornado in the distance at the end of that video. Now that's a bonus. How rare is that? Reed is it possible for you to post that video so ppl can just see it right away. Canadian chasers are surfacing, and it's awesome. I guess major league tornadoes do happen up there....jk....of course they do. The Elie tornado was so photogenic. There are so many videos floating around youtube. Awesome stuff Wouter...and great vid Reed.
Reed, you and the gang need to go back to Canada to chase again next year. You're obviously huge up there, and with some more local chaser popping up, who knows?
here is another video i just found on the elie, manitoba video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCI1u05KD_s&mode=related&search=
I might have to make that trip myself! I've made a vow to catch a hose by the end of next season!! This I will do! hehe
And I'm still ticked I didn't go to ND Sunday! =(
i wouldn't worry brady there will be plenty more oportunities ull find a decent one soon
*LISTEN UP*
I found a vid about that tornado in Rap form!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AejpRkfL4Uw
hey fount this link has an interview with red and dave holder its around the 2:50 minuet mark

Awesome videos guys! That's what I call solid entertainment. :D
Nice find with that video, Tim!
Caleb, THAT video was INSANE!!!! :-D I thought that one guy was Napoleon Dynamite at first!
heres another 2 videos the first one is images of lightning and tornadoes and cells......the second one is of a cell over DE Orkaan SJE ...enjoy lol:)

Nature is the best artist of the universe!
We just had a nice thundershower pass through Grand Forks. Some beautiful clouds. Wish I could have gone out to shoot some photos, but I had to finish painting before the rain hit.
The National Weather Service has posted tracks of three separate tornadoes from Sunday night, including the one that hit Northwood.
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/fgf/?n=northwood_tor_track
Simply WOW! http://www.weatherstock.com/tornado-gallery/tornadoes/index.html
Cool stuff Caro! I have that site as a fav. Warren Faidley is another favorite chaser of mine.
Welp, gents, I'm out for the night. Tomorrow's gonna be a looong day. Stay cool, and g'nite all!
Severe Thunderstorms Near Slave lake Alberta right now
Well it did hit 30C for the first time in a month.
Things are looking up for September
Great videos and links everyone!!!
no interesting activity? there were reports of 3 tornados touching down in northwestern minnesota today, no more than 50 miles from where i currently live (badger, strathcona, and i forget the third). the national weather service did not pick up on any of these, nor were any warnings issued for the county. this is particularly strange don't you think?
Hey guys! Ya I agree Mike. Were those tornadoes spawned my storms that came from my area in Manitoba lol. Here they were only a light shower....and there they produced tornadoes......makes me miss the severe weather here.
Oh well.....Saturday's looking up! Highs around 34 Celcius (93 Farenheit) here....likely humid......and a cold front coming through later in the day. Hopefully storms trigger. :P
Also, great videos. Did ya know Elie-Brunkild-Carman Area of Manitoba are more prone to tornadoes for some reason? Some people here call it "Manitoba's Tornado Alley"
Peace,
Jon
oppps....i meant to say *by not my in the beginning part....lol
They can't see everything on radar. It's up to residence to be wary of severe weather no matter if there is a watch or not. The day Northwood occured there was a tornado watch issued well before any storms were on radar. How people respond is key.
we have many, many weatherspotters, but the alarms don't sound unless the NWS issues a warning. without the sirens, most wouldn't be aware of severe weather. i don't know what it is about these people, but they just don't expect severe weather outside of maybe a blizzard or something up here...
regardless, it was reported to NWS and they still failed to issue warnings for roseau and surrounding counties.
Damn!! I should have chased that one!
3 tornadoes?
Never would have guessed that one.
I agree Mike! We we're discussing this a few days ago!
I was saying about how alotta people here in Duluth seriously believe it is impossible for a tornado to hit our town because of the lake and the hill! Even though a small tornado came through here in I think '86!
My town is the same way Brady, I live in such a small town that people say what are the odds that a tornado will hit us. but we had one in 85 with the Barrie outbreak.
on all weather channels.. they are saying storms are going to initiate today in central and southern parts of alberta... anyone think these storms could become warned?
Two years ago we had a tornado warning, It was a useless storm anyway but... Cars were still pulling up for an oil change at my work!! WTF! Even though 18 sirens failed to sound(including the ones we woulda heard!=() every radio station was announcing the warning, not too mention the very black cloud bearing down on us!
Since i moved here we have have i think 2 tornado warnings, a couple warnings within 20 minutes of us, and we had 2 tornadoes last year in Newmarket, which is about 25 minutes east from me.
Hey Reed, Ive been waiting to ask u this question. In the begining of the Manitoba video the tornado is white, but after it crosses the work in the video it goes black. Is it just me or why did this happen??
BRB, it needs to warm up a bunch for us to get severe today. The secret forecast said we might, EC's models say the best stuff should be closer to Calgary.
There is lots of shear, so maybe if the clouds burn off soon we might get something?
Hey Matt...the color of a tornado is largely dependent on the sun angle relative to it. When the tornado was white, the sun was behind us and was shining on the funnel, which gave it a white color. When the tornado crossed the road and moved into the field to our south, it was dark because the sun was behind it, increasing the contrast. I'm working on the final edit for this day so you can see the storm from start to finish...I should have it up in a few hours.
Ok thats what i thought it had something to do with the sun
Ha ha ha, WA/OR showing the most extreme areas for severe storms today in the US. We really must be in a dead part of the season!
hey weve got a huge storm over the top of us at the moment just hear thunder in the distance :D ..... if any decent lightining comes will try take some pictures lol
Wow!! Go chase it Joe!! hehe
Tim where do u live???? I dont remember were.
Well, at least there's sign of life out in the Atlantic, finally...

thanks, PB.. ya where i live ...(Ponoka,Alberta) the clouds have barely dissapeared.. i have been keeping my eye on it.. but i dont think anything major will happen like tornadoes :(... oh well.. maybe some intense lightning and some hail...just hope for the best
Couple of tropical storms in the Pacific, too (Henriette & Gil)... but who cares about those... c'mon, Atlantic!
Hiya Brady. No thanks on that. A four-hour drive over the Cascade Mountains with the rest of the Labor Day traffic just to catch a little lightning? I'm hard up but not that hard up.
matt....i live in england lol lincolnshire....we get about 3 tornadoes each year around f-2 sort of scale
Cool, I was told when i was really young about 2 or 3 years old that we had a tornado a couple of km away at my trailor park, the things u find out 17 years later.
The sky is now clear north of ponoka..ish
Look at red deer still only 14C and Camrose,Calgary and Edmonton are 17-19C thanx to the sun
Such uneaven heating creates micro bounderys that can set off unusualy severe thunderstorms
Matt:
Yea like the Grapefruit sized hail that hit my town in 1975
Brady, look at this ^. US drought monitor. The Superior National Forest isn't going to go up in flames is it?
lol cool matt.....spose you go round chasing them do you?
AJ, ??
Throw your lawnmower into the back of your truck and head on over to Greensburg for the weekend. You'll make a bundle!
Looks like they're upgrading that rusty old siren system, Brady.
http://wcco.com/local/local_story_242114010.html
Hey guys! I just got home from that type of work Joe. I could use the money... hmm... I bet they'd be more than happy to have me.
You might need a DR Field & Brush Mower, some of that stuff is as tall as you are.
haha. I don't doubt it. Good thing I have one then, huh?
Load it onto your truck, slap a TV.net logo on the door, and head on over! Tell them you are the Reed Timmer Weed Trimmer! We'll watch you on GPS.
LMAO!!
nice one joe...lmao
LOL!! More marketing idea's!! Keep up those good thoughts Joe!
I have a buddy going to school to make video games!! I'll send him some ideas!!
Reed Timmer Weed Trimmer? Niiice. I'm still waiting for the new TV.net stickers to come in tha mail... oh well.
I wonder how much gas it'll take...
AJ, Reed's sister just made a new logo, just for you!
Your tagline can be AAAAA-choo! What are you waiting for.
nice logo lmao:P
LOL Weed Timmer.. whats next torpedos.net?
Well, that's a nice thought Joe, but I'm no longer sick. :D I'd just stick with the AAAAAAAAAAAAAA! lol
Or what els is next.... Pee weed's play house

The TSR group, who seem pretty competent, have it following the same general course as Dean, but becoming only a Category 1 hurricane by landfall. I'm sure Reed will give us the lowdown soon.

Cool stuff... AAAAAAAAAAAA
Svr thunder-storm watch in the west...
in western canada or u.s.a.
West Dakota!! lol jk
gotta werk! brb
100th comment!!!
Oh yeah?! 101 baby! :p lol jk.
I'm out people, have a good holiday weekend!
Well Here is a video to get u in the mood click my name
Woops for got it... here it is
Hi guys! I need your help... I'm doing my first tornado painting and something looks wrong on it and i don't know what... can you tell me so i can finish it??
Click on my name, you will be directed to a photo album site. Mine is the first by the left. The painting is in there.
Thanks!
Wow Caleb! great video!
Sorry everyone, my painting is at the page 5 of the album...
wow caro that is an amazing painting its fantastic
Caleb - you always find really cool tornado videos on YouTube! That's one I'd never seen before. :-)
Caro - I'm not a person who likes to tell people what to do with their art, but if you truly think something is missing ... maybe you could add something small in the foreground, as if the tornado is approaching it (it could be a barn or whatever...) But it's not necessary - I think it's great as it is. :)
Thanks i'm doing my best...but i think the sky looks weard and i don't know why... maybe it's cause i don't really know the "structure" of a tornado, how should the sky be when there's a tornado...
Hey, you wear a Timex Ironman, just like me!
You sure have a lot of talent! Just look at photo galleries of real tornadoes if you want more ideas on how to paint the sky. Nice stuff
Thanks Joe! Ironman are good watches!
Take a look at this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2cFXBWqjKE&mode=related&search=
The guy was very close!
Man it's sure quiet here!
I uploaded the KSN livestream (radar) broadcast during the GREENSBURG F5 tornado check it out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6aPChg1B_g part1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzB4l6ASHU0 part2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHNW08Cnxlk part3
I did look at photos of tornadoes, but it's hard to paint it "real" when you don't know how it's made... I have to study it i think! ;-)
The watch itself is great, but the strap cracks and breaks after about a year or so. Mine is broken right now!
Yeah Brady, it was nice and quiet! Until we showed up.
Oh there ya all are!! hehe
Great work Caro!! I wouldn't know what advice to give you in that department! I think your doing just fine myself!
Caro, I used to draw tornadoes when I was in elementary school all the time. The only difference is that you have talent, I don't! Your art looks awesome, keep it up!
There is a lot of rotation in a tornado so you could maybe use hints of horizontal lines, if that makes any sense.
Great idea Joe, i'll try it. The strp of min craked too...I had to change it twice...
Are we really talking about a watch here??? lol funny
I'm in a mood to paint tornadoes... I think the next one will be a "red" tornado. It looks good and really photogenic. I'll try do do it less "real" and more "artistic" just to see the result.
The SPC 2day outlook should just read...
" Strong cap so just forget about it Brady!" hehe
Thanks Brady for the compliment! Maybe one day i'll be a great artist ! ;)
Excellent! Make sure you show us what you make!
The red tornado is the one that goes over Duluth and picks up all the iron ore dust.
I can't chase tornado (they are to rare here in the region of Montreal) but i can paint it! (And i can come here to talk about it! ;-) ) So, i feel good anyway!
I think so Joe. It was a beautiful tornado
This picture is cool!
http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0506/tornado_nguyen_big.jpg&imgrefurl=http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap060702.html&h=405&w=270&sz=181&tbnid=F3WKpjOakSY8bM:&tbnh=144&tbnw=96&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dtornado%2Bpictures%26um%3D1&start=2&sa=X&oi=images&ct=image&cd=2
Here's a real-life red tornado from twisterchasers.com ^.
The last time I was in Montreal many years ago, I took a trip up to Chicoutimi... it wasn't very long after they had that massive flooding. That little white house (the one that was shown on CNN constantly, in the middle of the torrent) was still standing there on those rocks!
That rainbow tornado you found looks like it's spreading happiness & joy wherever it goes
Hehe! or a fire funnel when the BWCA lights up again!!
Hey! I was there when the flooding occurs! We where in vacation and my parents brings us there to visit the region... unfortunately, we couldn't go as far as we wills uposed too because the roads were "cut" by the flooding...also, we saw nothing of the beautiful view they are supposed to have in this region because of the rain... nice trip anyway
Hey Brady, what does BWCA means??
thanks for the picture joe!
Boundary Waters Canoe Area! What they call the land between Minnesota and Ontario (not CA)!!
And there's often fire there Brady??
Oh yeah! There was a pretty big fire this spring that spread into Canada! on the 4th of July '99 the Northern part of the state was Hammered by Heavy winds, some I'm sure tornadic!! The storms knocked down Thousands of tree's. All the dead fall plus the lack of precip has had us all worried for a while now!!
Ok! At this period, I was in France! So that's why i didn't heard about it!
Oups...i didn't saw that it was in '99...i thought it was this year... well i didn't know that anyway!
It was this year!! The dead fall from '99 is still where it fell because of the dense and I mean dense forest, I am seriously scared this whole area is gonna cook! I think it's a matter of when and not if!
This is where BWCA is ^^
As you can see, it's all dried out. Smokey the Bear is very concerned!
I hope not! It always make me sad when forest are burning...Do they know why it's burning? was it lite by human activity or lightning???
Thanks Joe! I'll get good with the US geography!
I think smokey's packing up and leaving!
BWCA also stands for "Brady Wants Convective Action."
Man, the south part of MN floods out, and the top part dries out. Maybe you should flip your state upside-down for next season
Brady, sorry but i didn't understand what you mean in the last post... (i'm french! so i have to work hard to understand everything ;-) )
Hey guys..... I don't know about you but fall has came early for oklahoma!!!! Today we only got up to 85 degrees!!! And its currently 71 degrees and still dropping! I'm glad becuase that means that winter may be comming early too. As much as a tornado freak I am. I'm ready for cold and snow!
HAhAHA Joe! That's a good idea! maybe you can also invent a machine which will push clouds where you want to!
That could be nice!
I could bring snowstorms here! Montreal will rock and Quebec will be boring this winter! ;-)
Nothings burning yet! at least as far as I know??!!
I'm saying its gonna happen and it gonna happen soon!
We're not even allowed to use charcoal grills away from town right now!!
The fires this spring are long done!! I think they were lightning caused!
Caro, "Smokey the Bear" ^^ is a bear that teaches kids not to start forest fires. Actually, he's probably more concerned about the adults who throw cigarette butts out the window!
Hey Zack! That's the same for here in the province of Quebec! I'm going to camp this weekend and i must bring a good coat because nights will chilly.
lol Gotchya Caro!!
I'm from Minny, sometimes we don't speak right! lol
Hey Caro!! Whats the current temp up there???
lol i don't knew Smokey! I hope the "smokey suit" is fireproof!
it's a shame this article cost $9 to read.
The intensity of moist convection is an important diagnostic of climate change not currently predicted by most climate models. We show that a simple estimate of the vertical velocity of convective updrafts in a global climate model reproduces observed land-ocean differences in convective intensity. Changes in convective intensity in a doubled CO2 simulation are small because the tropical lapse rate tends to follow a moist adiabatic profile. However, updrafts strengthen by ~1 m s-1 with warming in the lightning-producing regions of continental convective storms, primarily due to an upward shift in the freezing level. For the western United States, drying in the warmer climate reduces the frequency of lightning-producing storms that initiate forest fires, but the strongest storms occur 26% more often. For the central-eastern United States, stronger updrafts combined with weaker wind shear suggest little change in severe storm occurrence with warming, but the most severe storms occur more often.
Tomorow morning it will only be 11 °C... (52 °F) Now it's 16 and droping too!
I don't know about this winter talk! Our summer just started last month! And last winter I didn't get to use my snowmobile until March Because it forgot to snow in MN!
Our winter almost began in april...it was the "snowiest" (? can i say that?) April ever!
http://www.criacc.qc.ca/climat/suivi/200704_f.html
Yep, snowiest is the right word!
I hope we'll have a lot of snowstorms this year! It's so cool to go walk in this! And to take pictures, it's beautiful! I used to paint snow landscape. Those are my mom's favorites
Thanks teacher! ;-) I'm better eveyday! cool! I will just have to practice my "vocal" english now...that will be funny! :-s
Hey, your English is better than some of our English! We had the wettest month on record here last November. I wish I knew about Reed's website last year, I would have taken some great flooding pics.
Snowiest works! thats how it was here! March 1st we got back to back blizzards! Only snowmobiles could get around town and we took great advantage of that! hehe
Well guys, bedtime for me...I'm waking up early to pack my car and go lose myself in the woods! AHHHH Nature...
See you monday afternoon!!!
Thanks for the comments on my work!
I wish I new about this site last year as well! I had a bunch of great pics and I stupidly deleted almost all of them!
Since I just got GRlevel3 this Summer, I'm wondering... will we be able to "see" blizzards & winter storms on radar too?
Have fun Caro!! stay safe!!
Have fun Caro - don't forget the bug spray
WE NEED MORE WIV TIME.
I will! ;-) and my bug spray is always in my car... ;-)
before i quit, what is WIV time???
Ha ha, I carry bear spray when I go camping in British Columbia... industrial strength pepper mace
WIV = waterspout intercept vehicle
It's a joke name, for a speedboat.
Good ??? ! I think GR3 will be great in the boat!
my wireless internet works round town and I finally bought a pwr inverter! ( flywheels next)
I think what Corey was saying, was, "Hey Joel, we need to take your boat out more often!"
That's what my Okie-to-English dictionary came up with, anyway.
Hey, where can I get GRlevel3??
hahaha Joe! lol
Right here!
Thanks Brady! Now I have to understand it... :-s ;-)
I'm still learning little by little, but it seem pretty easy to get the hang of!!
yep but I'll try it another day...Time for bed now!
Have a good week end guys! Thanks for the great moment we pass here!
The two parts I'm struggling with are,
1) how do you identify a supercell BEFORE it has an obvious hook and couplet? What is it that makes you say, "This is a supercell that might develop a hook later!" Is it the tops, or a combination of things?
2) how much of a velocity difference does it take to make a good couplet that could represent a tornado? +20/-20? +40/-40? +50/-50?
Have fun!! Stay safe!! Don't forget the bug spray!! Don't eat yellow snow!!
Great questions I wouldn't mind an answer to myself!! ???
Just add a note about fires and you would make a pretty good Smokey the Bear yourself there, Brady.
oh yeah!
ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FOREST FIRES!! lil late
Brady we'll just have to keep hunting & pecking for this info, I guess. It might be akin to asking someone, "Hey, where is your favorite fishin hole?"
We're bound to find out sooner or later!
I had some ??'s I wanted to ask Reed or who ever about
things like safety measures in the field and Such. Because I'm a noob and don't have much knowledge in that department! where to and NOT to be is my biggest concern!

I've been reading all the safety stuff I can find, and feel like I have a pretty good feel for that side of things now. Also have most of the equipment side figured out. I did send in my "application" for membership to stormtrack... over two weeks ago! No answer yet. Makes me feel like they don't want newcomers. It's the radar side of things that I want to nail down. Well there's plenty o time between now and Spring! Just hope it's a good season next year
Raining here now. Wheeee! Don't see how you guys can live in such dried-out arse parts of the country. No forest fires here! Mold outbreaks maybe.
*mold should have been moss.
Mold is what they get in New Orleans. Up here it's the mossy woods.
You guys are funny.

I downloaded the file, but all the placefiles i have currently are just URL's updating from a server...this is actual graphic placefile.
