Here is the new TornadoVideos.net logo. Please let me know what you think. We'll be adding it to the site, pictures, and video soon...and of course the side of our chase vehicle! They were created as vector graphics, so the conversion to jpeg distorted the detail a little. The goal was to keep it very simple and recognizable.

Also, here are some links to an analysis of the Michigan tornado event on August 24, 2007, which included an EF-3 in Howell as well as a few EF-2 tornadoes. It was a very interesting tornado event since most of the supercells were embedded in a line. I'm surprised there were such clear pictures of the tornado!

Instead of a symmetrical tornado, how about clipping off the left-hand side and making it more gnarly-looking, leaning forward?

Im under a severe thunderstorm watch right now so im nt to excitied but i have to go to work so im taking my camera to work with me.
Hey Matt...I'm guessing your camera doesn't have a firewire outlet. That's what I use to feed in video.
Does your camera have RCA outlets? (audio video cables). I believe you can buy cables that have RCA on one end and USB on the other for your computer, but I'm not sure on this. I believe you would need some kind of software to convert it to digital. One option would be to convert it to VHS and find a computer lab with the VHS to digital software. We have one of those at OU.
Does anyone else have any ideas?

The extended models are showing a strong possible in the southern Plains. Maybe that will give us some rain chances. I'm obsessed with strong fronts during the fall season. If it's slow moving you can even run along with the boundary if the temperature gradient is sharp enough and co-located with the wind shift.

I just use my old Kodak cx7430. It's not really a vid cam, just has the option! It takes pretty good photos though, but it's getting kinda beat up! I've had it for about 3 or 4 years now! If anybody has a good vid cam for these kinda vids, let me know! I am in the market for a new one hopefully before

Brady, my 2 year old Samsung SCD-86 works well, and it's really durable. I've dropped it on occasion, and it continutes filming! Only one tiny drawback: it's not the best in low light situations, but that's minor comparitively.

As a graphic designer (for real), I think the logos are great. Simplicity, a lot of punch, and font that give strength to it. Super! I like the asymetry idea too. Maybe you can give a "curve" (sorry, I don't know how to explain my idea in english words) to the first letters. This will give volume to the tornado (like it is in 3D). I can't show my idea now because I don't have access to my pc with illustrator and photoshop, but i'll try it as soon as possible.

It's a dutch chase team, if u look at the bottom of that page u see the google map you use, but with a few more advanced features. The map shows the areas were tornados / severe weather are most likey to appear, and it also show the exact location of SPC tornado warnings.
If u are interested in these features i can ask them how to get them, and add them to your map.
Just an idea, let me know what you think of it.

Today during chemistry class at around 3:45, I was slightly surprised to look out at the rain (heavy as it was) and see 3/4 inch hail! I can currently see the anvil from one storm, and I am under the anvil from another. Plus a TVS just popped up outside of Ft. Worth!

Those michigan pics are amazing, It is a reminder why storm prediction/warnings have come such a long way. I don't own a house right now does anyone know if insurance tries to weasel out of paying out in the case of a direct hit from a tornado? Is this an issue in the "alley"?

Hey Caro, i think the text looks like it is falling to the right, because it is italized, and its size...
In other words the size of the Text and the italic combined, make it appear they are falling to the right...
In hindsight, i like the Italic font, next to the tornado graphic, because it makes it seem as if the tornado is blowing the text down.
Catch my drift?
I'm guessing the text size is either 18 or 24? Or atleast in between there.

I know it's in italic. That's not the problem. The combination of the right curve of the tornado and the text in italic is in cause. The italic is too "marked" (? don't know if it's the right term) and the curve is too...curved too.
blame my graphist artist eyes for that... ;-)
I have the "habit" to find little details that disturb me...Maybe i'm too perfectionist (is that the right word ?) ...

Great logo man. I cannot believe how much we think a like. We need to meet sometime.
Kory and I spent the last six months doing a logo redesign for Severe Studios and finished it up two weeks ago. We just had new shirts and hats made for our debut of the logo, last Monday.
I completely agree that a logo can help identify who you are and why you are out in the field. I feel a logo along with a skywarn logo on your chase vehicle lends enough credibility to your vehicle when you are chasing, and sometimes pulled over in strange locations. Hopefully, it drives more traffic to the website and then the public can get more information about Severe Weather. The more someone is informed and ready, the safer they will be.
