The HUGE mesoscale convective system (MCS) that moved through the western Great Lakes Region late last night and this morning has stabilized the atmosphere there (see RUC CAPE forecast for this afternoon below), eliminating the severe weather threat today over the upper MS River Valley, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin. However, the periphery of this stabilized area will still see significant heating and high CAPE values by late this afternoon, resulting in widespread intense convective development, especially across Missouri to southern Illinois, and Lower Michigan. Wind shear over these areas is not that impressive, so marginally severe hail and wind will be the main threat. We definitely need the rain here in Michigan!

WOW...nice timing andy!
Thanks for the article link.
Been pretty nasty here a few times this morning/afternoon. A watch is out just to my south. So far I have picked up 1.67in of rain and a peak gust of 38mph.
I was planning on chasing today, BUT then the friggen remnants of the MCS had to ruin it. and move svr chances further south.
