Supposedly chunks of ice, some up to the size of a basketball and weighing 50 lbs, have been falling from the sky near Dubuque, IA!! Authorities are theorizing they either fell from a passing plane or originated naturally in the upper atmosphere (which does not seem feasible to me!). Here is a picture of one of the chunks from cnn.com

WTF!??
I agree Travis,WTF!!! I have never seen or heard anything like it!!! There has to be some *reasonable* explanation for this....
Imagine being hit by that!
I wouldn't want to Jonathon!!
I wonder how that woman will feel when she realizes that it's jettisoned human waste.
In other news, a car full of girls just pulled up next to me at a truck stop in Illinois and started laughing at me typing away on my laptop.
Corey, were they flirting w/ you or were they just making fun of you because if that was the case I would tell them to grow up and get a life!!!
Ok I'me back and I'me under a svr tstorm watch.
Btw, is it summer??? I looked at the temp for south okc(where I live), and the temp reads 82 degrees!!! Our average for this time of year is 94 and it certainly has not reached that for most of the summer! The hottest temp of the year so far was 96 degrees and to me that is still unusual. I've come to a conclusion that this has been a WELL below avg. summer thanks to the tropical airmass and the rainy start to the season.
Hey I'm not complaining.... This is WAY better than last years 100's!!
I know I'm posting too much, but I'm gonna be gone awhile today.. got an appointment at 3:30pm. So probally my last post...maybe.
Gotta go.. Bye.
Hey Zack...it's 84 here in Michigan...hard to believe it's warmer than in OK. I'm sure it will be 105 with a 75 dewpoint in time for when I come back to Norman.
Corey..I HOPE YOU'RE SATISFIED!!
Keep an eye out for severe storms in MO...nothing tornadic but some good storms later this afternoon.
Hey zack do u remeber the may 3 1999 tornado? cuz you said you live in okc
reed:
that is so a toilet meteor lmao. and whats better shes not wearing gloves lol. sure it was iowa and not ..um...i wont say it lmao. neat pic though.
corey:
if those girls knew you were a storm chaser...they would be interested. trust me...women love dangerous men lol.
Yes Caleb I remember the May 3 tornado more than I wan't to.... I was a victim!
You better believe it Reed!!! I'ts 84 degrees right now though... So we are SLOWLY warming up.
Anyway gotta get to that appointment!! I'm running late!
One more post.. I agree w/ you on that one Dale, women do indeed love dangerous men haha!!
ok just one more comment on this... anyone ever see the shwo"dead like me"? the title character is killed with a flaming toilet seat from space lol. ok...im done.
haha i like your comment corey...jettisoned human waste haha...awesome! i hate to say it, but getting hit from a 50 pound falling piece of urine and feces would be a terrible way to go!
haha i like your comment corey...jettisoned human waste haha...awesome! i hate to say it, but getting hit from a 50 pound falling piece of frozen urine and feces would be a terrible way to go!
$hit! sorry for the double post...
Hey guys found some stuff about tornadoes and bow-echos and click my name for it.
Some goodies brewing up on In Alberta again :)
My god that thing is huge.
pb...i see the same thing as well...so does the prairie storm prediction center...
http://twister.sbs.ohio state.edu/text/canada/FOCN45.CWWG
possibly pb...looks like its nw of edmonton getting it this year
I hate this time of year... after the main tornado season, before the main hurricane season. So boring.
Does anyone have any idea when conditions should become more favorable for development in the Atlantic?
Also, what is a good site for Canadian radar?
hm a good sight for canadian radar....ummm thats tricky lol. heres the link for accuweather and ec (enviroment canada eh).
http://www.accuweather.com/canada-index.asp?partner=accuweather
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/canada_e.html
frozen trash from a airplane maybe ? :D
In the article they seem to put a lot of emphasis on this, um, "object" being pure white. Now, I insist I am no expert, however my worldly wisdom of such things tells me that if it was in fact a latrine meteorite, wouldn't it NOT be "pure white"????? ;-D
ya the specled highlites in the ice with the black..whatever that is on top seems strange that it would come from anywhere else but an airline lol.
That is could be the hevest hail ever recorded!
Afternoon guys! I am watching the clouds over me (NW) of Edmonton, this isn't looking good outside.
Weather radio just went off....severe thunderstorm warning for me!
zach, look at us, were getting flooding here in NBA champions town. (in other words, San Antonio.) I don't mean to brag, but this year was WAY better than last year here, well, except one thing.... I had Like A 7" Centipede over my door and At 7p.m. it was like fear factor because we chopped in the head and it was still wiggling, but another chop and blargh it was dead. Man those things are scary! Peace yall
Nasty cell heading east down #16 toward Edmonton.
Look out Entwistle!
Holy crap that is huge.
They can for naturaly
1. lightning(particularly ball lightning) cand fuse the chunks together into a larger stone.
2.Ice buildup on a plane engine
3. hail stornes batsh into each other when they are still soft
The updraft needed to create a sone like that would be 400mph
PB: There is a cell near Gunn, is this the same as Entwistle's?
Severe T-storm watch for alberta
The cell west of edmonton is trearin up the cap. it may lead to more storms nearby
I am about 20 minutes from that cell west of Edmonton, does anyone think it worth driving into for a closer look?
I wouldn't want to be on hwy16 right now.
It's just sitting out over Entwistle rotating.
Bet it's a nice view from the back!
My husband is on hwy 16 near Wabamun!!
I think I'll go get closer!!
Next little streak is just crossing the mountains.
Drayton Valley again?
Hope it comes a bit further south.
hmm yes wtf lol... anyways looks like the thames is flowing pretty fast here ;) tomorrow svr wooooooeehoee
WTF!!! thats amazing...lol imagine that dropping out of the sky in front of ya!
Anyway the low that was supposed to rapidly deepen over the upper north island of NZ seems to be losing it's strength. However i believe it's still going to hang around long enough to create something interesting. Met has issued Severe weather warning for the early hours of tomorrow morning. I'll keep you updated!
that storm is big..but no upper cooling .. maybe it will change.
I wouldn't want to be touching that ice if I were her... it's probably frozen waste matter that's leaked out of the waste drainage ports of a passing airliner at 40,000+ feet. It's basically a frozen poosicle ;P
www.flightplanning.navcanada.ca has static radar images on the 2's every 10 minutes (6:02, 6:12, 6:22..etc) Just click Radar.
Tim, thanks for that link. I like it better than the EC site. And that cell up by Edmonton looks small, but really intense right now. Anybody on it?
hey andrew...its kinda stagnant... its not moving fats here... seems to be whiping out on the rain end too.
Reed, weather forecasters here, anyone...
I am really just learning (teaching myself) how to interpret weather models... but I really want to know...
I see some insane values on the NAM run. A low over Sask/Manitoba Monday night, with some really high numbers bullseyed over southwest Manitoba/southeast Sask, like EHI of almost 9??? Am I really reading that right? And SRH pushing 400, SBCAPE over 5000, 40 knot LLJ...
http://wxcaster4.com/nam/CONUS_ETA_0-1KM_EHI_84HR.gif
Anyone smarter than me want to verify or shoot me down?
Arg, that's not the link I wanted to post. Oh well.
The original question still stands. Are the Canadians going to get all the fun again?
...so bummed about the complete lack of anything interesting on the weather models for us here in the states...
Hey andrew found some awsome and extreme video! tell me how you like it. Click my name
Very cool Caleb.
The 24 hour models for up around the lake region in Manitoba look nuts right now. Winds might be off a little but still around the 21 knot mark 4860 cape in the real dark area and fairly low cap. May make for a fun time time will tell I guess.
I think I can safely say... holy crap!! I have never heard or seen anything like this. I wonder how well the woman pictured will wash her hands after handling that thing... lol. I like the word "poosicle", thanks Tim.
I forgot how bad July is about suckering storms chasers into a road trip. Then the conditions dissipate and leave you with nothing but poofy cumulus, and maybe a "crap storm". I'm about to lose it out here in western kansas. I need my thunderstorms! ;)
Andrew,
You're right, the NAM does indeed look pretty interesting in the locations you noted for Monday evening, though a forecast 84hr out leaves a lot of room for the models to flip-flop around.
And as far as weather in the U.S. goes, this time of year is usually not too terribly interesting except for dust devils, though I'd be keeping an eye on the tropics for some good cane action as the tropical season begins to get cranking.
Don, we have plenty of dust devils out here to pass around the country, and keep crazy kids like me sort of occupied.
I have a friend who works at the NWS, Greensboro, NC office. My sister lives thirty minutes from Charleston, SC. I wonder if we will have to pay more attention to that area for tropical disturbances.... ;)
Day After Tomorrow.
Definitely looks like a potentially big northwesterly flow event in Manitoba/Ontario tomorrow...the cap is forecast to be strong, but breakable.
I'll be adding a post about it once the morning model runs come out. Will you be chasing this one Rob, Tim, Amanda, etc??
Rob, are you saying I could in for another show?? I can tell you that the temperatures they're predicting right now for Monday is close to 40 without humidex for this area. So I wouldn't be shocked, looked what happened last time it was that hot :P
AJ D, I know what you mean. Here in north Texas this was the first normal (stormy) spring in years, and I feel like I'm going to die because it ended so quickly. Now all I can do is read the "TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS" at the end of every Tropical Weather Outlook while I quietly cry myself to sleep :(
lol. Yeah Connor, I can get mildly ticked at those bulletins also. I might as well put a tarp over the now crap chase vehicle. :(
Where exactly in north Texas, do you mind me asking?
I don't mind at all. I live in Plano, just north of Dallas.
Oh cool. I haven't chased that far south yet, maybe I can make my way there next season...?
I have been pretty busy keeping up in Kansas, Ok. and sometimes Co., that I forgot about Texas. Have you guys been hit hard by flooding, or barely scratched?
Why? Do you know someone in the area or something?
Dang, you beat me!
It's eased off here in the past two weeks, but all through June and early July, it was pretty much flooding everywhere. We could really only guess where it was going to hit next, fortunately where I live we didn't have any problems, but the water did start to rise quickly in a few of the storms.
Like I said, the past two weeks or so have been fine, but more rain is forecast to arrive tomorrow.
Yes, we have a mutual friend who is a volunteer firefighter and amatuer weatherman who lives an hour southwest of you, and his basement flooded. Unless he failed to mention something, it was because of the recent rains in the area. Don't quote me on that, like I said, I haven't been paying much attention to that area. Please correct me if I'm wrong :)
Well, cross your fingers for no more torrential rain. Going by TWC's forecast, it's not looking good.
And don't worry about my previous statement. Maybe I should type faster ;)
I wouldn't be surprised. There were entire towns flooding north and south of here (Gainesville, Marble Falls even parts of Denton only minutes from my house). A basement doesn't seem to unlikely.
I agree, it definitely doesn't look good. Fortunately almost every day way have rain in the forecast they are only saying 40% chance. The only thing is, that's pretty much all they said on the days we had some of the worst flooding earlier in the year.
Okay, thanks. I also have a sister in Summerville, SC. Maybe I should be watching the Tropical Updates more intently. lol.
I live in Garden City, Ks, about 50 miles west of "famous" Dodge City. We are situated in this odd area where almost all the storms we get come from the Rockies. It's not bad, though. Cold front storms are the most photogenic.
Yep, we also have slight t-storm chances until next Friday, but I'm not counting on them to become anything :( The atmosphere seems to be just dry enough along the state line...
I don't think it would be possible for me to watch them more intently. I check pretty much every 10 minutes, even though I know they haven't changed lol.
I've asked this before, but no one ever seems to answer. Do you happen to know when Atlantic conditions are forecast to become better for development?
Also, if you would like to keep talking but you think this is too hard to work with, my AIM is esoogkudkud5002 and MSN c.jm11@verizon.net.
I really can't give you a great answer to your question. I've seen a few different forecasts, all with different outcomes. Sorry.
Sure, if you have strong enough coffee to keep this conversation going ;) Let me add you on MSN real quick.
Reed I may chase tomorrow if it is worth it and I have enough notice to do it see what the day brings
If I do it will be on the west side of the lakes not east the east country ont./mb border is mostly heavy bush but look like west of the lake maybe fun to around Dauphin and north.
O-M-G its 5:30 am and we're getting hit by a freak storm, ZERO percent in the forecast. But how scary....I look outside not long ago and see a VERY low cloud going over us, and right now its so dark the street lights are back on...very electrical. And wind. NOT good. Will keep updated. :X
Thanks Don for the reply.
Model doesn't look quite as good this morning but Monday night does still look interesting for my neighbors up north.
Could you guys up there send us some of that action, please? It's been pathetic here in the states for the last couple weeks, I'm sitting here looking for ANYTHING for the next week and all I get is sunshine with the chance of more heat. Blech.
Yeah, I remember about 10yrs ago er so seeing this on the news! It is toilet bombs from 30,000ft! How much ya wanna bet she tasted it! lol I'll shut up now!! hehe
