Check out this video of a tornado in Costa Rica. This video was added to Youtube in June 2007, so I'm assuming the tornado occurred this year. You can see what appears to be a condensation funnel towards the end of the video clip. I'll be adding a post tonight about the severe chances tomorrow in Iowa, as well as in Saskatchewan/Manitoba on Tuesday!

those people driving around probably had no clue that they were driving in a tornado. That has to be a rare occurance down there
Accuweather's giving us (Winnipeg, MB, Canada) a 100% chance of a "strong thunderstorm" today (oddly no one else is).. but it wouldn't surprise me.. 30C (86F) with a humidex of 41C (105F) right now. Crossing my fingers AccuWeather is Accurate (pun intended).
Nevermind.. refreshed it and realized it said "in the morning" (which never happened).. oh well.. back to sulking about lack of weather haha.
I agrey with richard. Thay were prolly close or inside the tornado. There was sheet metal and sparks from a power line flying around! why didn't take shetlter? people were driveing through it!
Can anybody find info on this one (or speak spanish and translate the news report)?
That sheet metal could have seriously messed someone up if it hit anyone. I just hope no one got hurt.

Looks to have taken place on June 14, 2007. Apparently caused quite some damage from my googling:
In his first public appearance before the Costa Rican media since his arrival in the country last week, future Chinese ambassador Wang Xiaoyuan yesterday pledged a donation of $30,000 to help repair the damage done by a tornado that recently ripped through several southern neighborhoods of San José.

There's the only archived article I could find talking about the actual tornado besides the same TV footage from the TV station. Tried searching the TV station's website but between the language barrier and the fact that the Costa Rican Channel 7 seems more interested in Soap Operas then news I couldn't find anything.
i know tornado comes from the spanish word for"turn" . thats it on my end.
Looks like the cameraman had a fun time dodging that one. I hope TV.NET get's some good documentation if they ever go down south.

Whew, I'm finally back after a long weekend! Saturday I painted the house which was a pain due to the INTENSE heat and humidity!!!! Then today I went to see transformers and I got to admit, I've never seen such an action packed movie in my life!!! I l-o-v-e-d it!!

I wonder if that tornado was associated with a tropical cyclone...there can't be much upper flow down there.

That guy in the video was lucky not to be cut into 2 pieces. I am now waiting for Reed to top this by standing out there with even more debris flying around than in this video.

There has been several posts on the Canadian season their tornado season typically occurs later in the year than the US season (~late June to early August). We basically focus on the area with the best chances for tornadoes.
The big announcement is still upcoming...we might not acquire the needed technology for what we plan to implement until over the winter...which will be live streaming video!
Canada's kinda the wild west of storm chasing.. we've got so few chasers up here and it's still not officially endorsed by any agencies. As such there are still quite a few unknowns. If global warming affects our climate as it's appearing to be then the storms will more then likely become more intense over the coming years. It's rather a new frontier and I think that kind of pokes at a lot of chasers curiosity. Personally I'm really thankful that Reed and others on this site can provide some helpful tips, up to date info, forecasts.. we don't really have much in the way of products up here.
Personally I'm hoping our government cuts through the red tape and builds a comprehensive early warning & spotter system but I think us Canadian chasers need to build up and part of that includes learning from our American counterparts who have way more experience then we do.(There have been times when I've been telling the RCMP officer who pulled up behind me to see if I was alright that they were standing in the middle of a tornado warning)

Had some lightning on the 21st quite nasty (Fork lightning and all, we don't usually get that just flash bang most of the time), but it didn't last long.

Hi Tim,
We do already have the Canwarn spotter network in place... the main issue there is to get it to expand to certain areas. Some regions are extremely well covered and the weather office gets a lot of reports with even borderline severe storms, but many other regions are not very well covered.
In Ontario, we also have a project called "Project Opportunity," where OPP officers are given spotter training and can also wire in severe weather reports all year round. In return, some of the ham radio operators with Canwarn can relay information relating to crime. There was some talk about expanding this program to other police forces and agencies across the country, which is an idea that has received some positive feedback from most (perhaps all) regions that have heard about it...
So I guess what I'm trying to say here is that we do have a number of systems in the works, and many people are very much aware of the need for such a system. I understand completely where you're coming from, but what I'm saying is that there is definitely some hope in that department.

Oops. Yeah I forgot about Canwarn. I think they fall under ARES out here. I was under the assumption Canwarn wasn't officially endorsed by EC for liability reasons.. (Least that's what they said in the paper here a few weeks back). I should really look at getting my amateur licence and looking into them.. wouldn't be too much being as I've already got my aeronautical radio licence.. Right now I just carry my cell phone and a list of various authority numbers (EC Hail line, local RCMP detachments..etc) to call if I see something.
