An intense mesoscale convective system (MCS) blew through Norman a few hours ago, producing 50+ mph wind gusts, downed trees, and power outages. Just to the west of Norman in southwest OK, 60-70 mph wind gusts were reported with more widespread wind damage and flooding. Here is a picture of a downed tree about 1/4 mile from my house!

Here is the central OK radar image from around 1:30 am CDT, about an hour after the line passed through Norman. I was driving back from Dallas, and intercepted the shelf cloud about 20 miles south of Norman. Unfortunately I did not have a camera with me, because the laminar striations above the gust front were some of the most prominent I have ever seen.

looks like gainsville is getting no help...thats terrible
It looks like the line is slowing down...which is even more bad news for Gainesville...It looks like there will be a break after this for a while.
Do you know that massive wedge tornado (name?) shown in that video (at the beginning):

Huge Supercell, This was the one from the first radar image above in 3d looking from the south.

Base velocity
And yet there was no Tornado Warning. Can you believe that? Lots of TVS and rotation markers, NROT was showing a lot of rotation. Does anyone know if there was a touchdown yesterday?
This is the radar image, forgot to add it.
One side is BR and the other is NROT.

Reed, we are thinking about possibly heading down towards the MN/IA/SD boarder this afternoon... any thoughts on this setup?
Travis: After looking at the morning model runs, I definitely like a little further west into northcentral NE/south-central SD. I'm a little worried about initiation near the MN/IA/SD border area, and the low-level shear/instability is higher further west. Also, you'll probably need that surface trough and approaching jet streak for initiation.
If you can get a storm going in your target, it definitely could happen, but I'd say the chances are best further west. Good luck! Let me know if you need any info.
Volker: I think that's the May 3, 99 F-5 in OK, but I'm not 100% sure. Thanks for the video!
Hey Reed, I dont think we will be able to make out that far west in time, my suburban isent exactly equipt for speeds over 130mph! We will probably just wait it out and see if anything develops closer to home... Thanks for the input though!
Hey Reed! How was the trip down south?
I was wondering if you felt that there would be any target areas in central Illinois that my friend and I could look at for tomorrow (thursday). Any information would be gratly appreciated!
Thanks Reed, I also expected that but I was unsure because of the pretty good quality of the video (it seemed to be newer).
By the way:
Today there are some very severe events likely in Germany. Just klick on my name.
