Over 5 inches of rain has been reported over parts of Oklahoma during the last 24 hours, as slow-moving thunderstorms continue to drop heavy rainfall as of late Thursday night. Given that the ground is already saturated, and river levels are very high, numerous flood warnings have been issued for several Oklahoma Counties.

The upper low that has been responsible for these slow-moving thunderstorms has been stagnant over western OK for the past 24-48 hours, and is expected to SLOWLY drift southward into North Texas over the next several days. The models are forecasting more heavy rain over Oklahoma and N Texas for at least the next 2-3 days over this same region, so the flooding will only become worse. Here is a 24-hr accumulated precipitation map from TLX, OK:

Wow looks like it's happening all over the place...over here in the Netherlands we had a tornado that wrecked some homes and trees and lots of flooding too! click my name for a report.
Reed, I guess this flooding ties in pretty closely with your grad work, right? I guess there have been several of the more major kinds of events this year. In our area it was the late, killing freeze in April that wiped out the fruit crop, among other things. Our temps were in the low teens with 20 MPH winds. Hence, no blueberries or peaches this year. :(
I got some cool pics of my apartment parking lot under water (a foot or so) and a 2 foot wide vortex in the center where the drain was. A few smart cars drove through it. The duck pond here at OU was twice the size of normal and was flowing like a river yesterday (its normal completely still). It has only done that 2 other times while i lived here (3 years), the others were at night. If the models pan out i expect OK to be an ocean in a few days.
Hey Cors...Have you seen any pictures of the tornado? Was it a supercell tornado?
Thanks for the info!!
Heidi: The heavy rain definitely ties in with my grad work..I'm working on the season prediction of it! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAal;askdj
Reed, you know how I said I don't know how you guys learned, but I do it my own way? Question on this. Is this because of the warm front, if there is one, being South of the Oklahoma area? Usually anything North of the warm front is like stratform rain events.
apparently the news media had it wrong over here. there was alot of damage in this town but it was caused by straight line winds and an extreme downburst the KNMI is now saying after reviewing the damage. click name for the vid!
4.20 inches of rain in the last 3 hours in Byars, OK (SE of Norman) in the last 3 hours according to the mesonet! But nothing else around it, it is a very narrow band of very very heavy rain. Obvioiusly a flash flood warning is in effect.
nice work guys...
