A strong shortwave and associated jet streak will pass over southern Manitoba later this afternoon/evening, providing sufficient deep-layer shear for supercells. Strong instability and a 30-40 kt low-level jet will also be in place over this region east of a cold front forecast to stretch along the western Manitoba border by late afternoon. With 30+ knot flow at all levels above 850 mb, and good directional shear, the possibility exists for a few long-track tornadoes over southern Manitoba. Unfortunately, I will not be able to chase this setup, but will be monitoring the situation continuously throughout this afternoon. Stay tuned for updates!

Reed, check out the WRF! I see possible long track damaging tornadoes on the south side....God what a set up!
Hey! So Southern Manitoba here is under the risk for tornadoes? Awesome! Environment Canada has already issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our area, as of earlier this morning. Also, storms are and continue to fire in SW Manitoba already. Although those storms aren't really exhibiting tornado features, they do have rotation in some of them.
I got exams later on today, so I'm gonna go sleep a bit. Because of this tornado threat, I'll keep you guys updated on the latest situation whenever possible. I cannot wait!!!!!

Hey, its me again. I'm just here to tell you that around 5am CDT, a waterspout was spotted over Lake Winnipeg, very near the town of Gimli, MB.
What about over western KS and NE. Tornado watch! And a tornado warning!
Yeah I see the SPC already has a tornado watch for KS and NE, but the convection is looking disorganized as expected. The problem there will be marginal low-level shear, and straight-line hodographs favoring cell mergers and an inability for storms to move off the boundary. Looks like a mess there. There could be a brief tornado or two, however.
Severe Weather all over around that stuck Low off Massachusetts and that High near Bermuda which gives us in Ohio sun and no rain which we need big time. A bit early for Canada I do believe but this is a weird year for storms. As I can only remember 3 watches in Ohio this season and this is usually our most active month. People in Bama, Ga, and Ms will have to wait for a tropical storm to get any rain I'm afraid.

How late into the summer do the Northern Plains and Canada get tornados?
The Northern Plains and especially Canada can get tornadoes all through July and even August. One of the biggest tornado days last year occurred in SD and MN in August.
I hate NYC...it gets the least spectacular weather. I'm so sad to live here.
I hear ya Danny. Usually by this time of year Iowa has action...this year nothing even close to where I live has happened. In fact, it's been a few years since I've seen anything close to real severe weather. I keep hoping but it either goes around or doesn't happen at all.
I wish Edmonton would get some severe weather already. It's so boring with just cloudy and rainy weather so far we've had 3 little T-storms/T-showers besides the one we got hit with from the severe storm in stony
Two TVS in Kiowa CO, Colorado right now. This is a pretty big line of stuff, huh!

Hi folks,
Just for the record, one of the most intense tornadoes on record in Manitoba occurred on September 10th, 1942. It did things like carry a car over half a kilometer (the papers called it 600 yards), kill at least half a dozen people, and level several farm houses to the ground...
Just a reminder that "freak" events have happened before in the past....
