Here is our video of the EIlis Co., OK tornado...As I said, we were within 50 yards of this violent tornado!! We had to back up at the last second to avoid being hit by it (we were actually within the circulation!), and my cell phone fell out onto the road, and was hit by the tornado...it's probably still airborne. Meanwhile, a DAMAGING tornado moved through Greensburg, KS...VERY bad situation. Our friends Dick McGowan and Darin Brunin reported that the entire town of Greensburg was severely damaged. This is a very sad situation, as there were likely fatalities.
Tomorrow looks like an even more widespread outbreak, with even more intense kinematics.

Guys, for reference, how wide was that tornado? And how fast do you think the winds were? It seemed like it wasn't very wide or powerful, i noticed several trees weren't even phased by a direct hit. still amazing shots though

We do use an HD Camera and the footage looks even more incredible. You can see every little piece of debris flying around the tornado. Unfortunately, when we feed the footage out, it loses a lot of the fine detail. We will have it available in HD quality soon.
Today looks HUGE again. We are sitting just east of Dodge City right now and there are already storms starting to fire and it's only noon!!!

Kudos on the incredible footage. But the comments on tape disturbed me. Do you have to be so happy about a disaster? Maybe the excitement elicits awe and wonder, but watching something devastate homes and entire communities deserves more than just gushing. It doesn't have to be on the scale of "Oh the humanity," but still, a sober response would humanize the tragic aspect of what we're dealing with-death and destruction

Nice Video but do you really have to " mock" people's lives being destroyed. The video would be much better without the sarcastic comments on destruction. How about encouraging a " safer " chase so there aren't alot of untrained and unprepared lives out there for the " thrill of the chase " . Enough Said
The tornado in Greensburg ultimately resulted in 8 fatalities as well as one more from a separate cell in Kiowa county. The area is being hit again today too with multiple tornadoes on the ground.
I think it's commendable that storm spotters like Joel and Reed are out there doing this. They save lives by reporting information that doppler radars can't always pick up, and giving people time to prepare!
I agree the video is great and I stated that .The wonder of Mother Nature is something I greatly appreciate.
My point is I think the public can do without the excitement of seeing someone's property destroyed. All I ask for is a little compassion and less sarcasm. I am also a storm chaser but I could never rejoice over property being destroyed. Try spending a little time with someone who has just lost everything they own in a split second it might chase the way you feel because I have .
I agree Storm. Chasers like Timmer give the real live-saving storm spotters and chasers a false image. I'm disappointed in these individuals as they make the rest of us look like idiots. For those citizens reading this post, please understand that yahoo chasers are far, few, and in between..

If the commentary said "look at that, a tornado, how interesting", would you like the video then? What is the "appropriate" reaction supposed to be when you're 50 yards from a tornado?
If you would watch more of their videos you would see they are compassionate about others property. I have many of your dvd's guys..Keep up the great job.
I have seen several of Reed's videos and you misread what I wrote . I said great work nice video BUT !... It is not very polite to comment on lives being destroyed when using the same tone of voice as Mr Bill on Saturday Night Live. I'm sure you would be offended if it were your lives being mocked like that.
Being " excited " over seeing a tornado is a natural reaction, I've been there . I storm chase to Warn People to get out of harm's way. I also Volunteer for the Red Cross . I've seen both ends of the storm spectrum.
Sorry if that offends some just stating the truth. It isn't setting a good example for those of us who are in this to protect the public not make a profit or become famous . If I can save one life in each storm I chase , that's all I need .
