The Storm Prediction Center issued a severe thunderstorm watch for central Montana this afternoon/evening until 10 pm MDT. Severe storms have developed W to E across the center of the watch, but these storms have not shown signs of rotation.

While extreme instability and low-level wind shear are in place east of Billings, the parameters are marginal at best for tornadoes in the watch area above. If storms can develop in the region between Glasgow and Billings, intense supercells and tornadoes would be likely. The CAPE and 0-1 km helicity values over this region are shown below (RUC analysis for 23z).

Here is the radar image from Glasgow, MT at around 5:30 MDT, showing the severe storms ongoing in the center of the watch area, as well as a monster supercell in southern Saskatchewan. The Canadian NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for that cell. Dewpoints are in the 40s in the surrounding environment of that storm.

Interesting set up for sure and Montana is no stranger for severe weather of all types. Usually a little later in the year for the Canadian border though.
Looks Pretty good, you guys going to chase it?
Severe thunderstorm warnings for Spokane Washington into Idaho as well for damaging winds and small hail. And we sit high and dry here in Ohio with a chilly low of 39 tonight. Yeah, I'm bored sleeping on the couch, woman is real mad at me right now. LMAO
HAHA! Yeah it's going to be a boring 10 days or so.
In case anyone's interested... that cell in Saskatchewan generated reports of golfball hail. Elsewhere, we had additional reports of 60 mph winds, one inch hail and funnel clouds (most likely real ones... as opposed to pointy scud). Not bad for mid-May north of the 49th, eh?
Ironically, it appears that all three Dopplers that would have covered the outbreak (there were severe storms as far north as Saskatoon) were out of commission! Our Weather Network (Canada's version of the Weather Channel) had to use radar imagery from an American website to show where the storm was...
FROM CANADA:
The Summer Storm Season Arrived Saturday

The summer storm season arrived Saturday with a wicked cell that passed over Saskatoon which brought wind, rain and hail to varying degrees around the city.
Bob Cormier, with Environment Canada says there were reports of funnel clouds around the Southeast corner of Saskatoon and in the Delisle area.
He says it's possible a weak tornado touched down in the Delisle region, but most of the damage appears to have been caused by straight line winds.
Cormer says he's not surprised by the early arrival of the summer storm season because May, up to now, has been warmer than normal.
Hi.
I'm a chaser/spotter in the KC area. I have family in the Bartlesville OK area, and Nevada MO area who also chase. We hope to catch and share images with you on here. We're not professionals, but we understand the whats/hows and whys of twisters enough to nearly pinpoint them. Hope to hear back from you freaks! lol!
Hi. I've been using your tornado footage to help my 8 year old son get over his extreme fear of tornados and storms. We've had some scares in the last few years. He's now starting to think they're kinda cool. We live just east of Billings, MT and are still cleaning up from this last storm. Lots of hail and wind. Ripped out the telephone lines on the side of my house, blew down trees, some over 100 feet tall, destroyed outbuildings and blew down a house that was being built. It was just about done too. While I really admire and appreciate what you all do, you're crazy. LOL
Hi Liz...I'm glad to hear our footage can be of some help!
We've storm chased several times in extreme eastern MT..but we hope to be up there a little more often later in the season as the severe weather focus shifts north.
Take care and stay tuned for more breaking news!
By the way, the "Canadian NWS" is called Environment Canada. Just thought I'd let you know in case of future reference. lol. Did you guys hear about the storm outbreak in Southern Ontario (Canada) today? There were a few tornado warnings issued on a few supercells, but mainly severe thunderstorm warnings, associated with the 2 or 3 main squall lines that the cold front produced. It was pretty interesting to track. Well, I gotta go now. Thanks for your great footage that you show us every time you chase! I love your footage a lot! Well, keep safe as you chase every time, and good luck(lets hope for an outbreak soon!) Bye!
Hi Jonathan...I wasn't aware of that today!! I would usually put a blog post about it; in the future, please remind me if there are any canadian severe weather events occurring that we are unaware of!
Reed you need to pick up some fleet enema kits for your aunt mimi on you way home from delivering pizzas, and I wont be around tonite so you will have to administer them to her yourself. I know you dont mind. Dont squeeze the bag too hard this time, we dont want you getting doo doo on yourself like last time(it took forever to get the smell out of your shirt). Thank you honey:)
Have there been any more developments on the Southern Ontario portion of the May 15th outbreak? Here's what I have so far...
Ontario Provincial Police relayed a report of a tornado on the ground north of Exeter (unconfirmed, to my knowledge)... Canwarn spotters in the London area spotted funnel clouds and "cloud rotation" (wall clouds?), hence the tornado warnings in that area. Numerous reports of marble to quarter sized hail, with hail up to golf ball sized in the London area. There was also a brief mention (on one of Toronto's news channels) of a report of barns un-roofed in the Stratford area...
Don't worry, Reed, we'll keep our eyes open up here for the next one! How do you want us to contact you to set off a separate blog?
