Joel and I intercepted several small tornadoes/funnels from a supercell in Reno County, KS today just southeast of Sterling (video is below). The supercell had absolutely beautiful LP structure. Meanwhile, the high risk continues this evening in East Texas as the low-level jet intensifies. Large tornadoes are very possible tonight.

Whats usually is the best time of year for tornado season? Just so I know when to perhaps plan a trip out there.
Great structure on that compact supercell, right on the boundary...unlucky it jumped off because it was really getting good radar presentation. Very nice catch.
hey danny well im a "noob" at this stuff i mean im starting out young only 14, but if you are in the plains the best times are april, may and into june. if you go north to wisconsin for example, its may, june, july it just tottaly matters where you live.
All I can say is Wow what a freaking crazy night this day has been insane and 1 hell of a sever weather outbreak but its quieting down here now after the tornado alarms stopped going off no damage here thank god but it was very intense
Nice look of the supercell, and the tornadoes, small as they were, were pretty cool.
I wish this could have been a bigger tornado especially since it was more of open field. But yet the tornado threat wont be ending for a couple more hours especially in southwest TX. Then the tornadoes should pick up tomorrow. Tomorrow seems as a bit hotter day maybe tomorrow will be worse who knows. Southwest TX..the radar seems to be a hook forming(or has formed) WSW of San Antonio but i cant exactly tell
man what a pussy event. the spc can take their high risks and shove them you know where. I drove all the way from Nashville and spent half the day with Dave Holder his insane wife and their 18 gimp pets. only thing worse than today was losing to those damn buckeyes.
you got pretty excited about that little funnel up there trouble t. and who was that girl screaming in the background? need to keep her on a leash. them girls get all worked up sometimes. well anyway I'm glad you saw a little something and maybe I'll have some better luck next trip.
Great video guys.

3 miles se of Eagle Pass, Maverick County.
Tornado, reported by broadcast media.
*** 6 fatal, 40 inj *** Fox news is reporting 6 people
were killed and more than 40 injured. An Elementary
School was destroyed and a number of Mobile homes
damaged.
Sounds like there was 3 women in the vehicle for this chase. I would have been up under that shit in my 4x4.
Just keepin it real,
Ger
I got closer than Reed? This must be a first. The debris clouds crossed the road in front of us a few times between a quarter mile down to less than 100 yards. One spin up was about 50 yards from my car, wasnt planned on but it was awesome. These were moving so slow, it was very easy to stay with, except for the hoards of chasers out there, but i found my way around them. The tornadoes seemed very weak, they didnt even knocked any power poles down where we saw them cross. We didnt even see any tree limbs down for that matter. I suspect all EF-0's.
Bradshaw, Too bad you whiny Tennesseans we beat you and Memphis lol. If you would have showed up in the 2nd half you might have had a chance but notta. BTW say hi to Fat Phil for me.
Anyways nice footage and not the greatest day it turned out to be, I'm sure there will be more.
Yeah GREAT positioning Wes...I saw your photo on ST...we were coming at it from the north from the other tornado warned storm, and thought we'd wait for it to the north of the river..it was coming right at us and looked like it would put down a long-lived one for awhile. I guess that's what a 25 kt LLJ will get you...It would have been great to sustain a direct hit from that thing. They reminded me of a tornado Holder and I saw in MN in 2005 when we let an F-0 hit us...we were just blasted by sand and corn stalks. It was obvious it wasn't going to be strong.
That's terrible about the Eagle Pass tornado...I read that the language barrier down there could have been an issue with the warning process...it's largely a spanish-speaking area.
I would give anything to have chased that beast in Mexico...when it was on the other side of the Rio Grande, I bet it put down several long-track hoses. We'll get one over there one of these years.
Bet those weak tornadoes were better than coming to the Texas Panhandle for a little of nothing on Monday.
Eagle Pass tornado touched down first in Mexico as an EF-3 and moved into USA territory as an EF-2 according with the local news.
I was checking your tracker from time to time yesterday and knew you were just a couple counties north of us. As the storm really got going and we kept getting closer, I was waiting for a big red truck to come flying by me right into the center of it. I just about drove into it. After that pic I posted on ST, we drove to that intersection and made a right. I floored it down that road, just before we hit the treeline, a debris cloud came up around 50 yards outside my window. I had someone else running my camera, so we didnt get the circulation on video, but we got me freaking out. I would have gotten closer on some other ones too, but there were powerlines next to every road, not the ideal situation. You have to love the KS road network though, it is made for getting close.
Hey Reed, great video! Was that part of KS the area you were focusing on all day, or did you have to jet back up/down there after seeing it develop on radar?
I drove down from Nebraska after watching a lot of nothing happen farther west on the dryline. I was in Salina ready to give up on the bust day and head back home when hearing the reports of tornadoes from this cell. I raced down to the south but didn't get to the storm until after the last tornado had dissipated. But I had never seen a chaser convergence like I saw there last night on the McPherson county line all watching the rotation pass overhead. It was a traffic jam in the countryside! lol Though I missed the tornadoes, this thing still had some amazing structure, got some great pictures of the meso before it fell apart.
I don't know why, but it was hilarious to me to see one of the local TV storm chase teams running around down there in a big yellow H2 Hummer! What a chase vehicle- have you thought of upgrading, Reed? :)
Nice super cell! Pretty good tornadoes. I feel very sorry for the people who were killed or injured in the Eagle Pass Tornadoes. Very tragic.
Awesomeeee footage altho i am saddended by the loss tornadoes bring to the community
reed me and a couple of buddies of mine drove from southern il all the way out to those kansas and oklahoma storms to trainspot we were kind of following you guys so we could see some we followed a couple hours behind you guys starting in bartlesville oklahoma and we drove through pawhuska and we saw that osage county sorm develop but didnt stop because we were trying to catch you. a tornado hit pawhuska about 5 min after we left. we finally caught you guys up by ellsworth kansas but your positioning on route 4 seemed like it w3as away from the storm so we continued on route 14 and missed another by about 8 miles in hutchinson. we did see a pretty awesome super cell in mcpherson but nothing came out of it. i had fun but just wished i would of seen something.
Hey Garrett...nice!
Too bad you didn't make it to the storm in time...they were small, but still great to see. The supercell had incredible structure too...all the way to Mcpherson. I think in Ellsworth we were on the first tornado warning?
Good chase anyway!
