Three supercells produced large violent tornadoes today, one in extreme northwest OK, a second supercell in northwest KS, and a third prolific tornado producer west of Abilene, TX. My roomate, storm chaser Aaron Ruppert of vortexbreakdown.com, saw several large tornadoes between Sharon Springs and Goodland, KS, including two huge tornadoes on the ground at the same time. Here is a radar image of the northwest KS storm:
The storm we intercepted northeast of Amarillo had INCREDIBLE structure. One of the most beautiful LP supercells I've ever seen. We thought a tornado was certain with this storm. We observed intense rotation in the updraft, and the LLJ appeared VERY intense. After awhile, it slowly began to decrease in size, and eventually was the skinniest rotating storm I have ever seen. The jet circulation must have not been favorable...tornadoes to our south and a tornado to our north...the RUC model must have had a bad handle on this storm.

Where are tornados most likely going to hit tomorrow? I was wathcing the weather channel today and the severe thunderstorm expert said tuesday might be one of the most severe storms of the year! It's exciting, but kinda scary!
I have a severe weather outbreak in my pants right now . . . I knew she looked dirty, but ya don't make the best decisions under the influence of Johnny Walker, ya know? Shit.

It looks like anywhere from Wichita down to San Antonio has the potential for strong tornadoes tomorrow...I'll be adding a post about tomorrow's event soon. We're planning on heading to N OK/S KS.

Today wasnt too bad till I got back and saw what all we missed. I think yall were one of like only 2 cars to pass me all the way back tonight from TX. Tomorrow is going be crazy, the 4 km WRF has and interesting take on things. It shows a cell right over OKC close to dark, lets hope its a little off on that. Atleast we may not have to leave the state for the like the first time this year.
What about today? The CAPE looks amazing for your hometown in OKC today. I tracked that amazing cell along route 20 on radar, looked intense near colorado city!
WOHO, 3rd week of tornadoes in DFW!
This is the kind of day all of us "tornado nerds" dream about...hopefully these huge storms will blow up over farm land and not seriously injure or kill anyone. Reed...be careful out there and I look forward to seeing some incredible footage! Why can't I get this kind of action in Ohio?? (I do live 15 miles south of Xenia!)
I bet things are going to be pretty crowded chaser-wise today. Does that become a distraction?
Guys, I love the site. I get so excited coming here and seeing the new photos/videos. I think the tornado fever has caught me ;). Im 23 and I currently live in Indiana. I was stationed in Wichita Falls, TX when I was in the Airforce. I saw some awesome weather there. Keep us updated guys, im loving it! Also, why isn't your live tracker on? Turn that baby on, would love to watch :).
Another thing you guys should check out is what justin.tv is doing, maybe setting up live feed that you could take with you... that would be awesome!

Wow, good footage of the Tulia tornado, though unfortunate that it hit the city. Hope you all have fun today chasing if you do get to, and be careful!
But it seems like the Goodland, KS area is really getting it this season. They had some a few weeks ago, including the large tornado near Bird City.
Assuming dfw will be given a tornado watch today, does anyone have an idea about when it will be issued?
