Here is video from late Saturday night (~1:00 am) in northwest Moore, OK, where an elevated supercell dropped over 1/4 inch of ice in less than an hour. A few hours later, new convection developed in southern Oklahoma and moved north over the Norman/Oklahoma City area producing over 1/2 inch of ice over a few hours! Heavy thunderstorms with frequent lightning and thunder have been producing very heavy freezing rain over the last few hours here in Norman as of 4:00 am! A tree in our front yard is leaning over all the way to the ground under the weight of the heavy ice accumulation. I would not be surprised if we lose power here very shortly, but I'll continue to post updates using my car battery as a power source. Shown below is the TLX radar image from ~2:00-3:00 am CST, showing the intense convection moving through Norman.
Temperatures as of 4:00 am have dropped well below the freezing mark, with strong cold advection continuing at the surface!
The National Weather Service in Norman just issued an Ice Storm Warning about 10 minutes ago for central Oklahoma for 1/4 to 1/2" ice accumulations from elevated thunderstorms. I would bet we've already achieved that forecast amount, and may have an inch or more ice accumulations by morning! As I type this, I can here the trees cracking from the weight of the ice, and heavy freezing rain is falling.
sweet video! I love ice storms, and it's even better when u have strong winds with the ice, man does it get dangerous then! And lightning and thunder with the freezing rain, oh yes!!! Be safe out there, and enjoy the ice!
and by the looks of it, appears that much of the Central Plains will see a few more days of icing potential, YIKES! I have a feeling that there's gonna be alot of damage after this ice storm ends.. Just bitter cold up here in Minnesota, 2nd morning in a row now with low temps close to 30 BELOW over Northern Minnesota

Awesome Video!!! Round 2 might be more intense than this one at least for me. We are in line to get upwards of 1 inch of ice on the fringes of 2" based on latest products from the NWS and the forecast models. This will be significant for areas that have gotten already over 1/2 inch just to my south!!! I will be updating with video and forecasts as the major ice storm develops.
Here is a post of mine from the past, to show I have posted, there are likely more on this topic in the comment area: http://www.tornadovideos.net/index.cfm/2007/9/29/severe-weather-likely-across-centralnorthern-plains-late-this-evening#comments
I remember this day, and a number of days after it I was posting like crazy because THE WEATHER AFFECTS ME! I am interested in these freezing rain thunderstorms, I have never seen such a thing before, but am satisfied with others comments. I don't feel I have to ask the same question again, unless you would prefer I take up more comment space. You cannot falsely accuse me of "dropping in", others like myself ask others to tell them what they think of their websites, so why can't I do the same?
this ice storm brings back memeories of the ice storm we had in arkansas 4-5 years ago when lost power for close to 2-3 weeks- but it was during christmas break- awesome video- and i was going to say those t-storms did look supercellular to me- goes to show you supercells can develop in close to the freezing mark

That's awesome video! I can't believe the lightning with the freezing rain! You guys got some nice video in the dark. There must be power lines & trees down everywhere.
Wheeee snow heading for meee!! http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=WHK I hope that part East of me or NW of me hit's me...Theres only a couple flurries atm.
Still 45 and fog here this morning. I think that the warm front might be sitting just a county or so south of here, and it also looks like all the rain down there is going to ride the boundry east instead of continuing north, naturally enough. WHYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!!!!!
Awesome coverage of the ice storm. It's so cool to have everyone on here with their reports, with creaking tree limbs and bending over trees happening as you type. I only remember one or two ice storms in my life, and those were when I was pretty young, but I remember watching the power lines drooping. We lived on the main street of a small town, and that street was kind of a steep grade, and I remember just sitting and watching the traffic (especially tractor-trailers) spinning their wheels and getting stuck trying to go up the grade. It got pretty messy at times. The big-rigs would turn on their high-beams, and the heat from those would melt the ice enough for them to make it up the toughest part of the incline before it leveled out.
Anyway, be safe out there everyone, and keep the reports coming! :D
it seems to me- that the area of the dense fog is along and north of the warm front- so its probably stuck somewhere along a line from fort smith to little rock to memphis- i don't know- and these t-storms building in northwest arkansas are starting to impress me
Nice video Reed! The scene here last nite was freezing rain/sleet mix, but I woke up too late to get decent pics of it. I do have some though, they'll be posted later.
The cell just 10 or so miles se of me has tops close to 40,000. MORE THUNDER!!! I'm going to go intercept some rain drops! I'm issuing a high-risk of getting wet! AAAAAAA!!!!!
Everything's good here Brady, just a bit too cold for me to get anything done, say, in the garage :( I'll be stuck doing housework... oh well... I posted some pics earlier in the blog from this morning, check 'em out if you like...

I like the sound of that Heidi! Make sure you get some intense rainfall footage for those of us trapped inside by 10 F windchills (me). haha.
Tops close to 40,000? Sounds like a mid-summer storm rather than a winter one...
hey heidi- instead of high risk- it should be classified as a super-outbreak of rain which is more intense then high lol
Here's pics from about 11:30 this morning... I had just woken up too. lol.
