News DetailBlizzard in Hawaii
When you think about Hawaii, you probably think about this:
This is an image of Manua Loa on the Big Island erupting in 1975.
Manua Loa is over 13,000 feet tall on the Big Island.
I'm pretty sure many tourists were not expecting this statement for their Hawaiian vacation:

I found a few amazing webcams on Manua Loa.
Keep in mind, with the height of both Manua Loa and Maua Kea (both above 13,000 feet) it's not unusual for winter storms to bring snow!

Reed will have an update later on a possible developing Ice Storm for Oklahoma this weekend!

WAAAAAA Awesome JY!
Awesome blog entry, JY! When we were in Hawai'i about 5 years ago, we were amazed to learn that people actually ski on Mauna Kea (I believe that's the one - maybe it's both?!) when it gets like this, rare as it is. Those webcams are incredible.
In (somewhat) related news, IT'S SLEETING HERE!!!!!! =-O
I have friends who've actually skied the volcanoes. Wish I had the pics to send. Is the upper midwest getting ice storms again this weekend?
Thanks Cors and Heidi! I wish I could ski on a volcano!
Bucky, it looks like OK is in for a big storm this weekend, with this west coast trough swinging out! It looks like an overrunning event where a cold front brings in cold air near the surface (pushes through Sunday), and a warm front lifts north (from the Gulf). The Southern Plains usually has a big ice storm once a year.. so we'll see if the models verify!
BLIZIARD IN HOWIIE whats next an F5 tornado in alska?
lets hope not caleb lol
Yes this is very rare but can happen, I was reading a blog post earlier today on this even at Accuweather.com... This is very interesting to see a Blizzard Warning out for portions of the Higher Elevations in Hawaii.
this is the first time i have ever seen blizzard warnings out for hawii avery just goes to shower anything at all can and will happen
Avery, nice page, i see my photo in that one blog-lol cool stuff! Around an inch of new snow up here in Duluth, MN Today. Looks like a bitter surge coming this way Friday/Friday Night, could have lows around 15 below to 25 below Friday Night! BRRR!
Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are both almost 14,000 feet (4267m) ASL, so blizzards might not come as a surprise. The name of one of the volcanoes, Mauna Kea, means "White Mountain" in the Hawai'ian language, referring to the snow-covered summit.
Here we go again, winds picking up level1 risk for me, its gonna be a long night =)
livestream is up, we had some 50mph windgusts maybe we'll get some higher ones...I leave it up for a little bit.

I guess it can snow anywhere there's the right mix of elevation and moisture. I wonder if it'll snow near me soon... I won't be on the road to Colorado tomorrow, so I'll miss out on some winter action there :(
