The favored lake effect zones for NNE flow are now getting pounded by heavy snow squalls, including the Chicago and Detroit areas as intense snow bands stream off of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, respectively. Hardest hit areas today will be the Thumb of Michigan, northwest Lower Michigan, Erie, PA, and parts of Upstate New York south of Lake Ontario. Lake effect snow warnings are in effect for these areas.

Shown below are some pictures taken by Brady J. of the aftermath of the Duluth, MN lake effect event yesterday, where a foot of new snow fell on top of 10 inches from the previous storm!!

Very nice pics looks like a blast.
Similar around here with about 6in across the Buckeye State. Will send in some pics. Not bad when they were only calling for 2-3 in. Currently at 230 it is 24 degrees with a wind chill of 16 and light snow.
Very impressive photos, wished I could get some snow like that in my neck of woods, but that will never happen.

Awesome pics Brady! AAAAAAH! lol. I thought ya'll might like to know that I recently purchased a new digiital camera, and I love it. Expect better, and more, pics from me ;)
I smell a future blog post about this Reed... check it out.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY
MAJOR CHANGES ARE IN STORE FOR THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND. AN ARCTIC
AIRMASS WILL BUILD SOUTH TOWARDS SOUTHWESTERN KANSAS THURSDAY
NIGHT. HIGH TEMPERATURES FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WILL STRUGGLE TO GET
MUCH ABOVE THE LOWER TO MID 30S FOR MOST OF THE AREA. LOW LEVEL
MOISTURE STREAMING NORTHWARD OVER THE SHALLOW ARCTIC FRONT WILL
SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF DRIZZLE AND FREEZING DRIZZLE LATE
FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...CAUSING POTENTIAL TRAVEL PROBLEMS. A
VERY STRONG AND DEEP UPPER LOW IS EXPECTED TO FORM ACROSS THE
DESERT SOUTHWEST REGION WHICH WILL DEVELOP SLOWLY OVER THE
WEEKEND. THERE WILL BE A PROLONGED CHANCE OF WINTRY WEATHER
CONDITIONS ALL WEEKEND AND INTO THE FIRST PART OF NEXT
WEEK...UNTIL THIS UPPER LOW MOVES OUT OF THE REGION. IT IS STILL
TOO EARLY TO TELL HOW MUCH WINTER PRECIPITATION WILL FALL FROM
THIS STORM OVER SOUTHWEST KANSAS...HOWEVER THE POTENTIAL DOES
EXIST FOR SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS AROUND THE REGION. STAY TUNED TO THE
LATEST FORECAST UPDATES CONCERNING THIS WINTER WEATHER SITUATION.
you read my mind aj lol aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa *takes a breath* aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Yeah It's snowing here.... In the words of donny....
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa *takes a breath* aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
YIKES! it's already 17 below up at Hallock Minnesota at 5 PM, 13 below up at Crookston Minnesota. That warm advection better start soon, otherwise we could be looking at 20s and low 30s below zero my Midnight up in Northern Minny! A shot of warm advections snows coming to Minnesota on Thursday, perhaps a few more inches here in Duluth? Bring it on!
We got close to 7 inches of snow when they were calling for 1-3 in my area. Doesn't that call for a aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa???
Nice pictures Brady!
Nice pictures Brady, glad you and Tim got some decent accumulation over the last week....both got some ace shots...
Looking like you could get some ice over the weekend Reed, w that statement and the models.
Hey Donny, Thanks for showing that picture! Now I know when I'm suppose to see freezing rain! (Tuesday, December 11th). I'm going to be so happy once I see temperatures rising again, snow melting, storm season getting closer and clsoer!! I'm going to try to make 2008 my Godly year.
no problem at all kenny- not sure if i quite bye it yet- will just have to wait till tommorows 12z and 18z run it'll probably be gone then
Bring it on is right!! Thanx for all the nice comments!!
No Heidi, I won't take the boat down any hills( It would be fun!! ) but pulling a 14ft alumacraft bench boat across a frozen lake by snowmobile is a blast!! Canoes work good too!! hehe
Nice pics Brady! It looks like what we've got by monday!
WOW! the GFS looks AMAZING!
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasdkl;fj
IT SNOW ING LIKE CRAZY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah Reed I totally agree!!! It looks INSANE for the Plains this weekend into next week. We are in for it! WOOOOOOOOOOO! I will have my vid cam ready since this will most likely be news worthy :o
It's snowing here in Regina again, not shocking. Snows almost everyday. There's close to an inch out there already...
And at home, in Canora, we got over 2 feet of snow. Unfortunately I'm sure by the time I go back next weekend though some will disappear by then so you may not get pics from me. :P
This amazing-GFS will hopefully allow lil'ol me to get in on this insane weather too. Maybe I'll get one of those floods I've told y'all about, where a couple of run-off streams nearby turn into class-5 whitewater and we are stranded until it recedes. That would be cool if Reed could have one single blog entry with huge snow in the north, ice storm footage in the middle and flooding in the south. Yeah, I can see it now - I want it to have AAAAAAA in the head-line, too!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
You now how like a while back i said that i couldnt use GR3 upstairs because my video card was terrible and had to use dads computer to use GR and all my video games. Well found an update so that i can play all my video games and access GR3. And it worked.
Oh and did i say
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
hahaha. I just glanced at this page, and was astonished at the amount of "AAAA"s on here. lol.
I'm leaving for Denver, CO on Friday, and will be back to the Plains late Saturday. Of course the cameras are going, I might catch something :D
Question: where's the biggest action forecasted to be over the weekend? I'd hate to miss out on it again... lol.
hmm depends aj- theres going to be another round of wintry weather in the midwest again and the heavy rains along with isolated severe weather in parts of the south
haha. Well, I guess I've got my work cut out for me, time to make my own forecasts... *dogs run in cover now... lol. My forecasts have never been known for the accuracy.
Yep, Severe storms, heavy rain, possible funnel clouds in SoCal(southern california) Friday afternoon through sunday. The system is suppose to stall Friday night till Sunday, then continue to move east through the plains. I'm giving it around...ooh, maybe..100mm or more of rain possible for SoCal.
well no worries aj you need help making a judgemnet call- you ask me just rememeber that
haha. Thanks Donny. I'll remind everyone to NOT quote me on anything, for it is subject to rapic change. lol.
It was a long day, I'm out. See ya later!
It looks like we're about to get some more snow here!! Not much, maybe an inch or two!! Maybe more... ya never know!! I'm off to work!! Have a good one folks!! hehe
Well we have freezing rain here this morning. The roads are a little slick but not too bad. Much worse on bridges and highways. Sounds like that is what we will get on Saturday too :( I would rather have snow though.....
Gee, Brady, you won the prize for the most snow. We had 8 inches in Garrett County, MD. No school and a 2-hr. delay this morning. Heard from Heidi this AM. Guess what, she had to teach me how to do this properly and how to put something in the Favorites. You can tell I'm a computer dummy, although I have to work on one everyday. Everyone, have a great day.
hey wats up today im home sick but ill be on and off and thats crazy amount of snow close to 2 feet of snow here we just recieved a dusting and mabey a mix for tommarow here in nj
I'd like to document the most extreme winter weather up here in Winnipeg, but its not very photogenic. How exactly does one take pictures of brutal cold?
Oh wait, I know... We are forecast to get real cold on the weekend, so I can take pictures of exhaust fog. Extreme!
Strike, you could also make video of people standing around shivering. Be sure to include great audio of chattering teeth, too.
(Everyone clap for my mom for posting in the correct thread! :D)
I just took a look at the GFS again. WOW-WE I am liking the precip it is showing for us starting at 6Z Sunday through 0Z Thursday. (!!!) Maybe we'll get enough for our pond to be full again.
It's is actually very cold here today, too. It's not above freezing yet!
no kidding heidi- lets just wait till the 12z comes out till we get excited
Gmm......Garrett co, is beautiful been thur there alot of times on my way from N.VA to Mi. On I-68 cannot bring myself to do the PA turnpike! AND WHY, We had the snow YESTERDAY, THE KIDS have a SNOW DAY TODAY.......AAAAAAAAAAAAAA! ps, the roads ARE FINE. VA, is backwards, I am telling YA!
Heidi, I'm on it. I will put my best people on the hunt for chattering sound effects.
Way to go Heidi's mom.
-6 here this morning after a grand total of 6.1in of snow with 2-4 more expected tonight. Currently in Columbus I have 23 degrees with a wind chill of 19 under sunny skies. If you can believe it we are expecting thunderstorms and near 60 on Sunday! It will make it a muddy mess.
Anybody have any guesses for middle of next week? Looks like a powerful storm.
Reed I need to email you some pictures of the flooding in Washington if you would like to post them. Just let me know.
