Yet another winter storm will track from the Southern Plains into the Great Lakes Region through Saturday morning, with heavy snow falling across northern Oklahoma and much of Kansas today (Thursday) and tonight; northern Missouri/eastern Iowa tonight and early Friday, and northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin/Lower Michigan by late Friday into early Saturday.  Winter storm watches, warnings, and advisories have been issued for these areas:

The low pressure center responsible for this winter weather will not be particularly strong, so wind should not be a major problem with this storm as it was last week.   Still though, heavy snow will fall due to warm advection ahead of the system, the deformation zone to the northwest of the surface low track, and vorticity advection as the upper-level wave progresses.  3-6 inches of snow will be common from the Southern Plains into Iowa, and 6-12 inches of snow could fall across the Great Lakes Region as the surface low slows down and strengthens slightly.  Once again, I'll be based out of Grand Rapids, MI to document this storm, and will move if necessary to find the heaviest snow.  Stay tuned for updates!

And once again I get rain in Ohio. Reed, do you see the storms taking more of a southerly track at some point? That cold air in Canada has to make a push sometime I would think. Enjoy the snow wherever it may be falling.

A few days ago this was looking like a heavy snow maker for AR. But maybe we'll still pick up an inch or two? We got an inch yesterday, which was pretty unexpected but VERY nice! :D Here are some photos and a crudy video shot with my small digital camera (the one with no sound - an upgrade will be made soon!).

http://ryansmorningblog.blogspot.com/

Tim, were you on a bike during the first video? If so, did you ask Kenny if that was okay first?! (You know, since he is the original Bike Chaser! ;)

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By AJ | December 27, 2007 @ 12:47 PM #

Hey everyone! This system seemed to have popped out of nowhere, so I'll pay a lot of attention to it today. Also, since I'm in a snow advisory, I better get the snow shovel back out of the garage... I might need it again... I'm getting tired of snow now. haha

Donny, it does not surprise me. I bet that Cleburne Co. and other places in the higher-ups close to here easily got that much. It's still sticking around out there in places. :D

Heidi, glad to hear and see that you had some snow down in Arkyland.. We have around 25" of snow on the ground up here in Duluth Minnesota, had 4" on Wednesday, 10 inches back on Sunday..This month alone we've had close to 35" of snow, and December isn't over with just yet. take care everyone and be safe

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By AJ | December 27, 2007 @ 2:55 PM #

What?!? Did someone say "cold-core funnel"??? AAAAHH!! lol

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By caleb | December 27, 2007 @ 3:04 PM #

YEAH LOL it lasted about 10 min. hows the weather up there at your house AJ LOL make a vid.

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By AJ | December 27, 2007 @ 3:10 PM #

Cool! I'd take a brief cold-core funnel over a fog from a winter storm any day. lol. All my radars and such are telling me it's snowing on me right now, but the only precip I see is that goofy fog... hmm... this sucks. lol. I can't rely on my gadgets to tell me anything, and I can't see 1500 yards out. I'll have to get into my "human barometer" mode... hehe

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By caleb | December 27, 2007 @ 3:43 PM #

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH AJ there is a slight risk area tomarrow right well my part of ky is'nt in it but it's in a Tstorm possabilte I HAVE TO DRIVE 4 HOURS TO BLOOMINGTON IN OUT OF THAT AREA AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH bfvdfjvhbgvjgfndbjgjrfg

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By AJ | December 27, 2007 @ 3:47 PM #

hahaha. Nice! You're going chasing and you didn't even plan on it! ;) Take the video camera with you, whatever you do. lol.

Hmm... now it starts to snow here... if you could call it "snowing." lol. It's a wussy snow, almost like heavy flurries... and I'm supposed to get 5" to 7" from this? I'm skeptical.

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By tim jacobs | December 27, 2007 @ 3:54 PM #

Thanks Caleb and good luck for tomorrow....
just watching this documentary about when our country floods, it turns out that this summers floods which devasted my area was because of the jet stream moving too far south bring low pressure and constant rain....

sorry completly off the topic of this winter storm sorry

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By Monty M - Hutch, ks | December 27, 2007 @ 4:00 PM #

Yes we are "supposed" to get 4-6" here AJ but I'm leaning more towards 2-4". I guess the snow is nice this time of year but with the ice storms and then snow storms I am getting overworked shoveling this year :)

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By caleb | December 27, 2007 @ 4:05 PM #

Tim AJ I ment I'll be out of the risk of Tstorm area..... not i'll be in it.

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By AJ | December 27, 2007 @ 4:08 PM #

Aww, darn Caleb! Oh well, just ask if you can stick around at home a little longer ;) Yeah Monte, I was wondering too if the forecasts weren't off by a bit... lol. I'm starting to doubt if this will be as bad as they thought.

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By caleb | December 27, 2007 @ 4:41 PM #

And now I start to get some snow! It took long enough. lol. We might see an inch or two by late tonite... it depends on if it stays snowing as hard as it is now, or if will get stronger... we shall see ;)

Ohh, you have got to be kidding me! AAAAAHH!! That's just what this area needs, more snow... I better get out the snow shovel, and clear off the driveway so no one gets stuck backing out of the garage. haha. I'll try to get some pics soon.

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By Monty M - Hutch,ks | December 27, 2007 @ 5:37 PM #

Well it's barely starting to snow here but light at best. Snow amounts should be light in my opinion but who knows. AJ the snow shovel this year is getting lots of use anyway ;-)

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By AJ | December 27, 2007 @ 5:39 PM #

haha. It's seen more action than previous years Monte, that's for sure... I'll say that areas east, like Greensburg and Hutchinson will only see about 2"-4", but further west, and especially NW, could see the 5"-7" or more. I doubt it'll snow that much down here in the hole of SW Kansas, but I've been proven wrong before. lol

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By Paul | December 27, 2007 @ 5:49 PM #

dang it
the winter storm watch went down to a snow advisory in my area (which is Chicago)
3-6 inches possible so i hope we'll get the 6 inches.
What do you guys think?????????/

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By Wes | December 27, 2007 @ 5:52 PM #

My county (Hutchinson in TX) has just been bumped to a heavy snow warning for tonight from a snow advisory and we are also in a freezing fog advisory too. At 1 pm today they were still showing us getting to 45 today, but we were still at 25 degrees and it had already began snowing which the models didnt show till late tonight. It is snowing every 3 days here, I like it. I am definitely heading out (maybe up to 50 miles) tonight to find the deepest snow around.

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By AJ | December 27, 2007 @ 5:54 PM #

Well, at least someone isn't getting tired of the snow... lol. Good luck Wes, I say you find the deepest drift you can, and jump into it or something... or go find a hill to sled down. That's always fun. haha

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By Wes | December 27, 2007 @ 6:02 PM #

I just looked outside (it had been about 15 mins since I looked out) and the roads are completely covered and it is still only a light snow, but it is starting to increase.

I did go drive through some drifts the other day down my grandma's road out in the country. The road was filled with 2 foot deep drifts and i tried to plow my jeep through it. I made it about 20 feet and about got stuck. Click my name to check out the pictures. Whenever I get back to Norman in a few weeks I will post video of it snowing with 40mph winds.

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By tim jacobs | December 27, 2007 @ 6:08 PM #

hey guys, how is everyone?

lol AJ, just what ya need more snow lol :P

shame about you being outside the warned zone for tomorow Caleb...

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By tim Duluth Minnesota | December 27, 2007 @ 6:20 PM #

3-6" looks like a safe bet Paul for the Chicago area, low looks to track in a favorable path for Chi-town to get synoptic snow, plus with the low passing to your south, e-ne winds coming off Lake Michigan could lead to a wee bit of lake enhanced snow.. nice lil snow system down in that area..enjoy!

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By caleb | December 27, 2007 @ 6:57 PM #

Donny your smart about tornadoes can you tell us what this is?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/63/Tornado_infrasound_sources.png

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By Zack | December 27, 2007 @ 7:06 PM #

I've been looking at latest models and forecast data, and it doesn't make sense to me. The storm track is alittle farther south than previous forecasted, with the heaviest snow just south of armarillo and just to the north of Lubboc Texas. Looking at storm tracks. It's heading East not NE like the NWS thought. My point, is that the heavier snow totals need to come down a little farther south. And OKC should be included in a snow advisory. Right now temperatures are sitting AT 32 degrees, with some light freezing drizzle. It's about ready to snow here I can tell you that. I'm going to contact the NWS and ask them about this.

Ahh, it's snowing good here now. It took awhile for it to get started, but it's coming down nicely here. It's actually rather peaceful... but I still hate shoveling it. ;) It's not wet at all, just a fine dry powder. That'll make moving it easier. haha

Another winter storm for the Central US! Comment Posted By Brady MN | December 27, 2007 @ 8:14 PM #

I hope you get lots of snow so the the lil guys can get some sledding in!!
I could almost take a sled ride down the hill from here right to Tims place!! Horseshoe Bend around 40th ave W would be a lil tricky though!! hehe JK
