Blizzard conditions have been pummeling parts of southern Kansas overnight and this morning, as 40+ mph wind gusts and heavy snow have created whiteout conditions across the region. 4-8 inches of snow will be common across southern Kansas as the deformation zone pivots through this afternoon, with higher amounts across northeast KS into eastern IA through tonight. Shown below is a regional radar image of the intense snowfall from Saturday morning, followed by a surface map from around 11:15 am CST:

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a mesoscale discussion for northeast KS into IA for the expansion of the deformation zone snowfall to the northeast as the surface low ejects and strengthens. Heavy snow and strong winds will create near blizzard conditions in this area as well. Stay tuned for more updates as this dangerous winter storm continues to unfold. It looks like the lake effect blizzard is still on track for southwest Lower Michigan tomorrow!!

Looks like it's starting to clear out on my side of the state. Like I said, two effing feet on the side of my house...

Now the sun's coming out, so we shouldn't have a problem with blowing snow as much. Maybe just slush, again.
First comment, woohoo! I won't be surprised when places like Hays or Dodge City report deeper drifts. Garden City seems to be in a geographic hole however, so I don't know how it will turn out across the area...
damn lucky you with all that snow send some torwards arkansas lol- and theres some nice t-storms popping into central arkansas- time to have fun
Why do you want snow when you can have lightning? lol. I would prefer one over the other, but that's just me... ;) I'll take snow today I guess.
I say we pick a single snowflake tomorrow and chase it.
Well Corey, I have several to choose from, so... get to deciding. haha
Some clouds outside sapose to get some storms later... nothing tornadic i don't think...
Caleb, you're still hoping for something tornadic this time of year... that's what Tim Jacobs and I call "optimism." lol I'm going to go get some extreme snow drift photos...
yeah I've been through something like this a tornado passed a few miles down the road. i didn't take this

Hmm... that's a good video... reminds me of the August 20th supercell we had in SW Kansas. The conditions were similar, there just wasn't any tornado :(
yeah I use to live in a city called jeffersonville we had a lot of tornadoes we had an F1 on may 30 2004 here is some info about it I was out in it pea sized hail 80 MPH winds after that I saw a very skinney stovepipe tornado touched down then 1 min later lifted up.

Chicago is getting some snow tonight.....
Ahh, that's cool Caleb. Similar things have happened to us too, but usually I'm not there with a video camera to capture it :( That will change this season...
I just went out again and took some more pics... along with freezing my butt off. lol. Where's the hot cocoa???
Ahh, there's the hot chocolate... yum... oh, and some pics. ;)

AJ this will make you not sick anymore.. TORNADO WATCH OUT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA CHECK THE SPC AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA giuhgtuyufrdthguhgdfrdtfseraffrswa
I'm at 37 degrees and drier than the Sahara. This cold without snow is starting to make me mad... especially since our winds are around 30. BRRR!!!!
AJ!!!! Those pictures make me want to cry! That's more snow than I've seen at once in my entire life!
Connor, it sounds like you're about to die from lack of snow... lol. I always offer to send you some, but it might not be "snow" by the time it reaches you. ;)
Hang on Caleb, you've peaked my interest.
We might get a blizzard here in southern manitoba tomorrow, with 10cm of snow on the ground and winds 50 gusting to 70 it will sure get interesting!
Also my website has been re-designed so give it a visit. www.steinbachweather.ca or click my name
Hey Aj. Your dogs name wouldn't happen to be Benji would it?? hehe Looks just like him!! Nice to see ya get a lil Christmas snow!!
haha. Nope, the dog's name is Joey. He's part yellow lab, so I guess he should like snow... he's kind of bewildered with it... lol.
Boy this winter storm is really taking shape across Iowa, Kansas, Western/Northern Missouri, and Northwestern Illinois right now. Gonna be very interesting to see how far west the heavier snow band will set-up on Sunday. I think snow will be moving east to west, reaching Duluth between 3 AM and 5 AM Sunday
ha! take a look at the gr3 radar from Des Moines IA right now, it's showing some mesos down along the IA/MO border area
Oh you've got to be kidding me! Mesos?? Now I really have to go look... lol.
By the way, I like the watch box Caleb ;)
lol, I think I'm missing something. usualy when we get a slight risk we end up with at least thunderstorms, but today there isn't even that much lightning, will it get stronger or is it just a bust for storms? (if we don't get storms, then it's going to be very boring here, we're too far south to get snow, but too far north it seems to get many thunderstorms
hey guys whats going on??
nice pics AJ, glad ya got some snow....
we had a dense fog warning out somewhere in England lol, but that has now just been removed....
Hey guys just droping in to say hey and man ive missed alot here.
@AJ- Nice pics glad to see you got some snow.
Mesos in December makes me wanna move to Florida or somewere down there.

rotation east of batton rouge!
AAAAA! we got a WEERALARM! (for amsterdam) no need for translation I think :D
I normally just read and don't post here but just had to report that in the midst of blowing snow (5-7" accumulation?) we heard a clap of thunder this afternoon! My husband and daughter looked up, like "what the heck was that?" and I told them they had just experienced a somewhat rare meteorological phenomenon- thundersnow!
nice! lisa thats awesome! be safe. Im about to get ICED myself! the dutch (royal) NWS just upgraded to the highest state of emergency!!! WEERALARM!
well howdy lisa and congrads on the thundersnow- unfortunantly i have never witnessed it
Forgive my ignorance but what is a WEERALARM?
Looks like you guys are having fun! It's been awhile since I've posted here. Anyway heres a fun little band heading towards me! http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=WHK
I'd say 2-5 cm, 1" to 2 and a half inches, is not out of the question!
Off topic: Secret number "911"
Lisa, I believe it's the dutch or something way of saying Weather.
Thundersnow is pretty cool. It scares the crap out of people who are used to regular old peaceful snow, but it's a really neat thing to have happen ;)
I know this is way late but i have been looking thru my videos and found this
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8184/wmplayer200712222116166ay7.jpg
itis a frame form my july 23rd storm video. It show a classic supercell storm
Hey Kenny that band is headed my way too
Nice pictures AJ. They just put back 3-6 inches of snow for our area/northern IL. Yea! we may have a white Xmas yet!
haha. Thanks. You enjoy that white Christmas, cause I know it won't stick around long enough here. Maybe it'll be a patchy-white Christmas, I don't know... lol.
I'm tired, I'm out of here. See ya later!
hmm indeed weer=weather but here i am just traveled trough amsterdam (tipsy) expecting...okc icestorm scenes,,,,,,but nooo ofcourse KNMI is gonna make me look like an ass again, screaming armageddon(based on their weeralarm) when in reality no ice no storm no nothing....AAAA! from now on im just gonna base my comments entirely on "land of the free" weather phenomena. our storms are pussies just like our european governments. lol wonder what came first. :P

this is like the funniest dutch video i've ever seen! its like this older guy behind the camera with these kids and an extremely slippery road. funniest part is when these cyclist head their way; and they are saying; watch out the road is reallly slippery but the cyclist ignore them, so the guys notice and then they say...ok your allowed to fall down. and right on cue.......they go down...lmao
Awesome pics of the snow there AJ. Living by the coast at 31 degrees north of the equator snow is mega rare here. Thunder snow is something I'd really really love to see!
I was reading parts of OKA have been hammered by the blizzard as well as Texas....reports of 50 car pile ups etc. Sounds pretty grim.
P.S Hey Cors, I got your message on youtube - thanks for letting me know about your video - it's cool!
JAAAAAAAAAMES.....CHOOOOOON! wow thx james I wrote that wasted, woke up next morning thinking,,,wtf did I just say?!? anyways Heidi did her job scaring the s outa me...so I took it off public views. When is your movie coming out?? cant wait!!!!!!! ps my buddy is now in yangshou i think..lol he lost his atm card....mommy!
btw james, I got a chat on insaneweather.com come over for a bit if ya like. http://www.insaneweather.com/
Great vid Cors!! hehe I luv watching pile ups when I'm not involved in it!! hehe
How much ice accumulation did you get over there Cors???!!
Looks like the roads were more slippery than what we had an OK...all of it was on the trees! Power was finally restored 10 minutes after I pulled out of the driveway.
Congrats on the thundersnow Lisa! I've only seen it twice in my life...we get a lot of thunder-freezing rain in OK but it's not the same. Supposedly there was thundersnow in Norman today too when the deformation band came through.
War zone in southwest MI tomorrow night.
How are things in Duluth Brady? Where is Joe Surfer!!!! aaaaaaaaaaa
hehe thx brady, just decided im gonna put subtitles under it and repost =) ...notice...the 4 turkish guys coming out of that crappy VW golf. and the dutch guy talking to the cop with money in his hand (casually) and at the end this cop said...hey young fella hold on a minute. also the cop want to say something but he cant think of the word...lol I really gonna put english subs...it is hillarious
the temperature gradient in N Illinois is insane...the cyclone is intensifying rapidly. out of control
well Reed, in amsterdam about 0inch. :( .....BUST. It would have been crazy though if it happened cause we got all these little bridges going over the canals ..and well when there is ice on them...you can image how hard it is to walk up/over them..
hmmm War zone in southwest MI tomorrow night, sounds like a new post coming up :P ...
you know what the funniest thing about the united states is? What? It's the little differences. A lotta the same shit we got here, they got there, but there they're a little different. examples? Well in the US you can get in your car and drive up to a tornado. And I dont mean no sissy ass T0 im talking about a T11. also you know what the call a T11? they dont call it a T11? nah man they got the imperial system, they dont know wtf a T11 is. So what do they call it? They call it royal EF5!... Im fing going thats all there is too it!

im in a dense fog warning!, visibility id down to less than 50 yards.... the e midlands are in this warning!
Hey Tim, wow dense fog.... We got 3" of snow yesterday!!!!
dangerous winter storm getn going here in Duluth, MN right now. 984 mb low near Green Bay WI as of 7 AM! Impressive! NWS upgraded to a winter storm warning til Midnight Tonight, possible blizzard conditions. Snow is moving east to west right now, rare to see that.. Very cool stuff.. If i don't get pics of this storm, i'm sure Brady will!! lol.. it's just startn to get light outside now, maybe i'll be able to snap off a few pics b4 i head for bed..
Hey Cors.
Sorry I missed your message. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) use MSN? If so shoot me a message on youtube and I'll give you my email add.
Enjoy the winter storm folk. Boring arse weather here in Shanghai!
In Green Bay overnight, temperatures were in the 40s and rain was falling, so we lost most of the snow that fell in the Dec. 1 snowstorm. It was about 47 with a bit of rain around 7am yet, though the winds were starting to pick up.
Then the low pressure center rotated into our area with the snow and really howling winds, and the temperature just _dropped_.
As I write this about 9:20am, it is now 16 with a wind chill of -3, and the temp is supposed to drop some more as the day goes on. Already there is about an inch and a half of new snow, though it is already drifting in some places. The tree in front of my place is really rocking back and forth a bit because of the winds, which are sustained at 25-30mph and gusting to 50-55mph. I wonder what it would have been like for the Packers game if it was being played in town, but they might still get some since they are in Chicago.
By the way, the high temperature we had for today, which was earlier this morning, broke the record for the high temperature in Green Bay. If the temp keeps dropping more, now 13, we could possibly set the low temp as well...
It should be an interesting game @ CHicago today jeri=I am in northern IL and it is howling outside!! I'm gonna need to keep an eye on the neighbors branch that is hanging next door from the ice storm a few weeks ago! What a difference from yesterday!!!
Wow I missed what sounds to be one of the biggest storms of the year!!! That's typical.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Tims right! Damn near Blizzard conditions right now!! AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! It's Great!! GR3 shows the East to West motion!! Thanx again and again for the updates Tim!! And thanx you Lake Superior for giving er a lil kick!!
Is there any snow on the ground in KS still or did it all melt already?? I wish you guys could Have a white Christmas too!! I feel kinda selfish for bragging it up!! Heidi and Donny could use a good dose too!!
Looks like a lil lake snow on top of ya Reed!! Good luck in MI!! I hope ya guys get pounded there!!
