Warning!  Adult Language!
A new storm chasing show featuring the Outlaw Chasers (Randy Hicks and Lanny Dean) will air on Christmas night at 9:00 pm CST on Court TV.  Named "Tornado Hunters", the show will include insane footage from the past several years, as well as a portrayal of the unique personalities of these controversial, yet very successful storm chasers.  The footage on this show will be absolutely insane, and much of it has never been seen on television.  Different from the other shows premiering this year, "Tornado Hunters" will be factually and chronologically accurate, and will not have any faked re-enactments.  While I haven't heard from the production company as of yet, there may also be some TornadoVideos.net footage included in the show.   I highly recommend everyone to tune in to Court TV on Christmas night!!!  Shown above is a trailer about the Outlaw Chasers, and below is a link to the Court TV show schedule.

If Reed and his team are some of the best chasers, and have gotten some of the best footage, then why don't they do some kind of show? It's not like they would be selling out or anything. I mean when we watched that other show it has mostly their fottage anyway. It's about time they are the stars for once right?

New storm chasing show about the Posted By justin | December 18, 2007 @ 9:13 PM #

that one wedge a little over 2 minutes into the preview looked like it was between 1/2-1 mile wide- that was a monster- thats a thing of beauty- unfortunantly with this thing of beauty also comes the destructive nature of em

New storm chasing show about the Posted By MynameisBen | December 18, 2007 @ 10:37 PM #

I'm pretty good at spotting the same tornado in two diff vids, I would say that huge wedge your talking about donny, is the same wedge known as "The Manchester SD Wedge" That Reed and Joel got insane footage of also.

Heres the link

I say Reed and company need their own show also, not to compete with anyone, but just to jump on the TV bandwagon I suppose... that, and everyone loves twisters at Christmastime. lol

New storm chasing show about the Posted By justin | December 18, 2007 @ 10:56 PM #

they should and also some of us one day should make if dream or some thing to make tornado chasing company if you get good at it that is my part time hobby job i could dream of then be with people who else like weather

New storm chasing show about the Posted By AJ | December 18, 2007 @ 10:58 PM #

haha. I hear you there. I'd like to go into film or TV broadcasting, so storm chasing would fit the bill as far as what people want to see goes. Now if only I could get my broadcasting teacher to let me borrow a camera... lol

New storm chasing show about the Posted By jeri | December 19, 2007 @ 12:27 AM #

Yay, something reminiscent to watch even with all the cold and snow outside. :) Hope the power comes back on soon for you all, Reed.

The latest forecasts are saying that there's to be another big storm to hit the country again this weekend, with Wis and some of the surrounding states to get a snowstorm again.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Reed | December 19, 2007 @ 12:51 AM #

Yeah hopefully it will go further east and I'll get pounded in Michigan!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By tim Duluth MN | December 19, 2007 @ 1:43 AM #

not sure what part of MI you'll be in Reed, but it's very possible this storm over the weekend will impact MI and nearby states of WI and Illinois, but then again the forecast models have been changing their tracks and speed of the storm with each new model run, so i guess we have to wait patiently and hope the models come into agreement by Thursday.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Danny | December 19, 2007 @ 10:08 AM #

Should be an interesting one to watch if I'm not too busy with family of course. Any idea about potential reruns? Because I think I'd end up missing it due to family obligations.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Heidi | December 19, 2007 @ 10:10 AM #

FREEZING FOG ADVISORY! AAAAAAAAA!!!!!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Reed | December 19, 2007 @ 11:07 AM #

Hey Tim: I'm from Grand Rapids, so whenever we get cold westerly flow we get a good multi-band lake effect event. Northwesterly flow shifts the LE to the south. If the GFS verifies we could be in for at least a good westerly flow LE event behind the system...but hopefully it will track further east! We'll probably get an ice storm and lose power up there.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Reed | December 19, 2007 @ 11:09 AM #

Just looked at the new GFS...you're right-on tim. If this track verifies we will get slammed! Synoptic snow and lake effect!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Volker | December 19, 2007 @ 11:52 AM #

No Court TV in Germany :-(( *whining*

New storm chasing show about the Posted By gerb131 | December 19, 2007 @ 12:16 PM #

I will have to set the DVR to this one, looks like a pretty good show. Looks like its going to be a green Christmas in Ohio this year, as rain will be here on Sunday, maybe we can get some lake snow showers in here on Monday.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Donny | December 19, 2007 @ 3:38 PM #

there should be a mesoscale discussion soon with the storms out of the lake charles sight- some of them look like to me there taking on supecell characteristics

New storm chasing show about the Posted By tim Duluth MN | December 19, 2007 @ 4:16 PM #

thanks for that info. Reed.. I bet the Grand Rapids MI area get lots of lake effect snow during the winter months.. didn't wanna say this, but it's looking more and more likely that there isn't going to be a phasing of the jet streams occurring this weekend, meaning the southern stream system will stay unphased from the system up here in the north, result will be some skimpy amounts of snow/ice, but i doubt it's gonna be a big deal, unless your by Lake Superior/Lake Michigan, these spots could see some pretty good lake effect snow later in the weekend once cold enuf air pours in on W-NW winds.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By David F. in Madison, TN | December 19, 2007 @ 6:25 PM #

I got a favor to ask of some of ya'll. Is there anyway that ya'll can post the best links ya'll use to look at the latest GFS model runs, and any other models ya'll look at? I love studying the weather, and I haven't posted much since storm season slowed down here in TN, but I would greatly appreciate something I could look at to better understand how to use and explain the different models used to predict the weather. Red and Co. is great and always kept me up-to-date here in TN, and if I don't holler at ya'll before Christmas, Merry Christmas and Happy New Uear! Enjoy the "Outlaw Chasers" on Christmas night. Again THANKS for any help ya'll can give me!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By AJ | December 19, 2007 @ 6:26 PM #

Hey everyone! Hope ya'll had a good Wednesday! We're taking our semester finals this week, and I'm about to die from exhaustion and boredom... sigh oh well... on a lighter note, here's an awesome video of a Croatian waterspout I stumbled upon earlier. You can see the multiple vortices within it.

David, there are lots of model sites out there to use. www.weather.unisys.com

those 3 are the ones i tend to use, there's lots more out there so i'm sure you'll get some more responses to ur ?

Dammit!! We need more snow!! The trails are starting to get really bumpy!!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Darrin | December 19, 2007 @ 7:54 PM #

Now what should be on Court TV is the guy who's shown traveling through a gust front and hail core of a squall line chasing embedded-supercell tornadoes in the middle of the night WITH HIS NINE YEAR OLD IN THE CAR. A trial, that is.

I noticed the plural on the OP, are there other shows than the truckloads of fail delivered by the one I saw on WE-TV last night? I mean, I don't mean to get mad or anything and I'm sorry if you know those women, but that show was awful. Did Reed and Joel give them permission to use all their footage on the TV ads for that show, or is that considered stock?

It'll be nice to see a realistic chase show with no cutaways. But why Court TV?

New storm chasing show about the Posted By David F. in Madison, TN | December 19, 2007 @ 8:18 PM #

Thanks ya'll I really appreciate it

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Brady MN | December 19, 2007 @ 8:19 PM #

From what I gather Darrin is Courtv is changing to Truetv or something like that!! Max X stuff I think!!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By andy | December 19, 2007 @ 8:21 PM #

Court tv is documenting the criminal behavior of tornadoes. Some people admire tornadoes for their beauty but, court tv wants us to see the violent side of those few tornadoes that cross the line...lol

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Susan | December 19, 2007 @ 8:25 PM #

I'd like to see them try to frisk or handcuff a tornado/y'all/lmao

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Darrin | December 19, 2007 @ 8:26 PM #

Also the OP video is win. His comments are hilarious on the youtube page; he says Joel and Reed are releasing their best shots for free "just to keep their name in the game." Heh. I have a feeling it's all just part of a shtick.

2:39 looks like Hallam's early stages.

Also: this site is in dire need of a message board. Is there a link to a good stormchasing board somewhere? I'm supposed to be attending NOAA-funded education from my county (done by ISU meteorologists) in February so I can be a registered lookout in Iowa, but I don't suspect they'll offer anything I don't know already, and if I do go out to watch for my area I don't want to be unprepared or do anything stupid. There's not too many central Iowan stormchasers given me and one other guy were the only ones I saw on the road (other than state troopers) going after the tornado-warned storm that passed Ames this past summer.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Brady MN | December 19, 2007 @ 8:33 PM #

Are you familiar with this site Darrin??? Might be just what your looking for!! but ya probably already know this one!!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Reed | December 19, 2007 @ 8:38 PM #

Hey Darrin: We licensed our footage for the Twister Sister's show, and that included advertisements. It is a little disheartening watching our footage on tv with someone else's voice over it...but we do need to make a living somehow. Hopefully one day they'll make a show about the middle man!

I read that comment by Randy. "Keeping our name in the game" is our number one priority! ;) From what I hear, the documentary may get a little controversial...which makes for better tv.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Brady MN | December 19, 2007 @ 8:50 PM #

Half the reason I chased and will again is because of that name that is on top of the game!! The help from Reed and everyone else has been a dream come true for me!! And to hit the highway knowing that someone of his stature is supporting me and rotting for me is something... I can't even explain the lift I get from that!! So keeping your name in the game I don't think is a big issue Reed!!

Thanks for clarifying - and yes, the show was a bit of a let-down. Who is the guy with the kid, by the way? That kid is sharp as a tack. He seems a little sharper than his dad, actually.

I sent an email to you at reed at tv.net. Check it. I'd love to get a BBS running here and I made an offer to help out each month.

-Tom Brady

I checked out midwestskywarn some time back, but it crashed Firefox, as it did again now. Going to look at it with the hated Internet Explorer as we speak.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Outlawchasers | December 19, 2007 @ 9:07 PM #

Reed, thanks for posting our info on the show and all looks correct. And to all the readers: as far as the questions and concerns regarding keeping your name in the game and what Randy said, people need to understand that the "REAL" chasing community is very very competitive, however we do have respect.
This would include the respect between us Outlaws and Reed and company. Reed is our competition but he is also a good friend and someone who inspires both Randy and I to try to stay ahead of the pack.
So tune in on x-mas night
Best to all,
Lanny

Oh you can bet your arse I'm gonna watch it!! It looks great!! I'm even telling everyone I know to watch it!! Maybe I can get the bar to flip it on!! Looks much better than that other show we watch a lil while back there!! Remember to pop in here after to check the comments Lanny!! Godd luck to you guys and have a safe and Merry Christmas yourselves!!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Brady MN | December 19, 2007 @ 9:48 PM #

I kinda like the I don't give a f&$k attitude from the Outlawchasers though!! I kinda feel that way when people look at me weird for chasing storms!!
I realize in the Real chasing community the competition!! I can understand the need to be the one to get the better angle, or closest to the funnel or whatever. But like what Lanny said sometime back about getting held up in a road block cuz the Tiv was doing maneuvers and then getting pelted with rocks!! WTF is that all about!! That's just not Kosher!! What right did they have to block the road?? I'm glad you decided to blow through it and I would/ will do the same if I'm in that kinda situation!!

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Caro | December 19, 2007 @ 10:13 PM #

Hey...we might have another important snow fall for this weekend here in the province of Quebec...I hope it won't change into rain! Temperature will be borderline...Some are forecasting snow, others rain...20 to 25 cm of snow for some and frozen rain or ice pellets for others...

-Outlawchasers

Good job on everything up there in that video. Like I said on my Youtube comment I'm eagerly awaiting your show. But like I asked before - why Court TV? Did you guys get in trouble or something, or is it just the name "outlaws"

in before "we're all ex-cons" :)

Hey my names eric duncan, i chased with lanny shortly after the greensburg event. U can call me an honorary outlaw if u want. Hey darrin, lanny says "no the outlaws are not in trouble, the reason for court TV is becase of the name change from court TV to True TV. The name change will occure after new years. With the name change comes True TV which will then be based upon ACTUALITY not REALITY." Take care and God Bless.

Reed, Outlaw here wanted to say thanks for the plug and am looking forward to seeing that next amazing shot im sure you and Joel will get in the near future. I want you to know when I finally went public with my way of chasing and challenged all my peers to step up or step aside you most definently stepped up. I know you know that being next to a viloent twister is priceless and you like me have been constantly attacked by some of our peers well they had their run at the game and now it's our turn. Me and my team give all we got to the game and I am willing to pay whatever the cost GOD requires of me. And someone tell Doswell that Darwin's therory of eveloution is based on survival of speices due to their ability to adapt to their enviorment. Well Chuck we have adapted and your now on the endangered spieces list and if you still dont know who I am well merry christmas watch court tv and you will I told you someday soon the whole world would know us and thanks for the hate it was very motivating. Wow awesome footage Randy Hicks! it looked like the tornado when right over your car. incredible!
btw there has just been a massive earthquake in new zeeland, i think some people from there post here sometime.

New storm chasing show about the Posted By Heidi | December 20, 2007 @ 8:28 AM #

Earthquake info, From CNN:

Buildings collapsed, power lines were knocked out and gas pipes ruptured when a powerful earthquake hit the northeastern coast of New Zealand late Thursday

Media reports in New Zealand, citing the government, listed the quake - reportedly felt as far south as reportedly felt as far south as the city of Christchurch - at 6.8 magnitude. The U.S. Geological Survey put it at 6.6.

There were no reports of serious injury or death from the quake near the coastal city of Gisborne. But local resident Phil Robinson, who recently moved to New Zealand from the United Kingdom, told Television New Zealand that the quake had caused serious damage to the city.

"Everything was bedlam for about 15 or 20 seconds," Robinson said. "We gather several properties in town have been damaged. It's had a serious effect on lots of people in the city."

Robinson said communications were "patchy" and it was difficult to make telephone calls on both landlines and cell phones.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Management confirmed to The Associated Press that three buildings in Gisborne had collapsed.

"As far as we are aware, there are no injuries in those buildings," Vince Cholewa said. "Most of the damage is utilities - gas, water and electricity."

Television New Zealand said there were no reported injuries and that despite suffering minor damage, Gisborne hospital was operating normally. The network reported eye witnesses saying the city of Gisborne was covered in glass.

Walker Vance, public information manager of Gisborne District Council, said there was no tsunami risk. He said people had attempted to get to higher ground because of tsunami fears but returned to their homes as they realized the threat had passed.

When asked how the quake had felt, he said it was "probably a series of three quick jolts, followed by a lull of a few seconds, followed by another two jolts."
