Here is video from the lake effect snow event downwind of Lake Michigan from Thanksgiving Day. When we left Grand Rapids (~30 miles inland), it appeared that the massive lake effect snow band would move well inland near the Holland, MI area, and a lake effect snow advisory was issued for most of southwest Lower Michigan. However, the band remained largely offshore due to the development of a land breeze (surface winds shifted towards the thermal low pressure over the warm lake waters), and we only experienced light snow showers along the shoreline. Here is a radar loop from about 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm EST while we were intercepting the snowband:
very cool video Reed, also liked the brief Foo Fighters song in the background-love that song!

Lived off of Lake Erie in Chardon Ohio for 4 years and lake-effect is nasty. I can remember it snowing 4 inches an hour with thunder and lightning on several occasions. Better luck next time Reed. Cold here in Ohio with 35 and sun going to a high of 38.
Yes!! My snow chances for Saturday and Sunday morning look perfect! Good arctic flow, low pressure system cooling off the atmospheric temps, and theres still snow on the ground from 4 or so days ago, cooling off surface temperatures!
Yes Caleb, I saw your videos. Awsome haha! One day I should bike into a Leaf tornado..Or wait I already have. Tomorrow I hope I get a good little Flurrie event kind of thing! I'll probably film even if it comes at night.
The truck, Caleb. Every real chaser has a red Dodge! :-D
I don't have any videos online, sorry. Our camera doesn't even have sound ... we don't really even have a video camera, just what the digital regular camera can do.
I think the TV.net Red Dodge is Joel's, Caleb. I'm pretty sure it's a 4-door Dakota. It's in a few of the videos from this year. That's so funny that you have a red Dakota, too, though! :D Our Storm-Spottin Mobile is a Blue Dakota ... maybe that's why I've never seen a tornado?!

I know its not very original but i like sleep just seeing it lol :P sleepy duck lol oh well.... Well i am disapointed .... we have the temps i want, -4 but we have no sno, we are only predicted sleet for tomorrow :(
Well I put together a little 2008 premiere video for my next season..I also just looked over some videos of lightning from an LP supercell that came through here on July 29th...Makes me sad! I want summer back.. :(
Kennyi want summer back also. Of course im going to try and film some lake effect this year. I got 3 lakes that im surrounded by im sure ill get some lake effect.
And Reed i heard somewhere that once the lakes freeze over then theres no more lake effect snow. Is that true.
Disaster the Duck? Sounds alright to me. I personally would've given the title of Donald, but that's old and unoriginal ;) And the truck is a crew cab Ram, actually. Just saying... :P
The snow stopped falling here, but now the winds have picked up, and driving in it is intense!! lol.
Hello, I'm just checking out your site for the first time. I find this first video actually interesting. I live in Maine and I am often effected by your Lake Effect storms. Reminds me of here because of all the ocean. Great work. Are you a meteoroligist(sp?) or is this a hobby. (off topic: why are people that study weather called meteorologist? Shouldn't they study meteors?
Joe, they actually need to update that "About Us" section by about 2 years or so. Just thought I'd let you know that they're older than it says.
If you're familiar with YouTube, go there and put the word "tornado" in the search. You'll see a lot of tornadovideos.net there. This is one of the top-viewed videos all-time on YouTube:
They really are going to have a hard time surpassing that Manchester video, in my opinion. I have that on Tornado Glory - seeing it like that is way different than what you see on YouTube. You have to see it on a TV set to get the full effect. Manitoba might be a tie with Manchester, for me, but it's going to take something very special to *beat* either of those. Yeh deffinetly Heidi, they are great footage... aswell Hello Joe
Yup one has susatianed winds of 95knts gust up to 115knts.
The other is a tropical storm sustained winds of 65knts gust to 75knts.

i agree heidi- it will be hard to surpass the manchester tornado- to my knowledge this was the first time ever recording the complete evolution stage of a wedge tornado
Tha Manchester wedge is one of my personal favorites, along with the photogenic white Mulvane tornado, and the classic Andover KS one. "You can't beat the classics man."
I doubt that I would get this close... if I did I'd need a change of underwear probably. lol.

not me i lived for getting as close as possible aj- one of my favorties from the one in manchester and i quote "back up back the f up" bye my alltime favorite was i can't remmeeber which video it was- it was with reed and joel- but anyway it was they were videotaping a multie-vortex tornado and saying "tornado to the left tornado tornado the righttornado to the left tornado tornado the right lalalalalalalalalal" lol - you cant forget the andover F 5 it left a good message- never hide underneath the gerders (sp) cause of wind speeds underneath there are stronger the the winds in the tornado itself
Well, the Andover one made people think that hiding underneath an overpass was safe; the May 3rd 1999 OK tornadoes deduced that being under the overpass was a worse way to go. And getting close is the goal, but when it happens, I guarantee I will be scared crapless. lol.
Posted By Donny Cook | November 23, 2007 @ 5:43 PM #
well good luck getting close- and remember- dont get to close as to where you feal the debris hitting you

Last year there were mid-June supercells firing along the KS-OK border, so my friend and I get in his Jeep Wrangler and go after them. We get about a mile north of the OK border, and a giant derecho hits us, causing lots of widespread wind damage. The wind gusts must have been pretty darn close to 100 mph... the measurements we got only registered an 80 mph gust... to make a long story longer, we happened to be near a large, rather new fence at the time, and the rest is history... our insurance rates went up after that. lol.

well ya know if ever see anything on the models that shows anything interesting- you can find it on my yahoo 360 page, my myspace, and my uncle and i's website and on here so don't worry i have your back
Thanks Caleb. The term "slight risk" usually gets me excited, but I'm feeling kind of selfish in this case, so since it isn't anywhere near me, I won't worry about it. Always an eye on the sky however...
Hey Brady! Check out my video! Some guy called Bike Chasing a joke..Huh someone doesn't know a thing about my little ideas! http://youtube.com/watch?v=_zqIxwh5xNk
lol. OK, I'll just drop it on your car or something ;) lol jk. I gotta go, I promised the family that I'd unglue myself from the keyboard. Have a good one! See ya!

It looks like a snowband is going to come through my area within the next hour! I will try and grab some video, but filiming snow at night sucks for the most part. But snow is awesome so I ain't complaining!! :)
Hey Michael! :) You're lucky you're getting snow now... maybe we'll see some flakes here in AR tomorrow night?
Donny, we got about 4" in January (I think that was it? Maybe beginning of Feb.?) - it was awesome. The most I've seen since we've lived here was about 6", and I think that was '04 or '05??
Oh, AJ, I forgot to say that the only way Arkansas will end up playing KU is if KU loses ... which we do not want to see!!! AAAAAA!!! Tomorrow night's game with Missouri is going to be like a BCS bowl in November! Yee-haw!
Posted By Monty M - Hutch, ks | November 23, 2007 @ 11:52 PM #
Well we finally got about an inch of snow here. No wind or crazy stuff. Guess I'll go hunting in the morning. The pheasants should be out warming up :) Nice video Reed!!
Posted By Donny cook | November 23, 2007 @ 11:57 PM #
i actually don't remmeber when it was heidi- but i think your right though
hey heidi, we have the same ducks over here. lately the dutch have been going mental about storms cause this guy called piers corbyn (brit) is predicting a superstorm for holland this weekend. he bases his forecasting mostly on the sun. http://www.weatheraction.com/ because a famous dutch weatherman posted his prediction on his blog the dutch media has gone completely mental about it. the funny thing was that he predicted this storm supposedly(that brought us the high stormsurge) personally I think hes bluffing and secretly looks at the weathermaps. thing is since he mentioned superstorm the dutch media has jumped on it like nothing b4(I guess they notice the clicks) personally I think its all bs but I wonder wot the experts think? does the sun influence the weather on earth in such a way that you can predict possible superstorms/hurricanes from it?
Brady, awesome video from the March blizzard that hit up here in Duluth last year.. Shawn, myself, and my Dad all went down to Park Point the day of that blizzard, just before they shut Park Point and the Lift Bridge down, i remember as we got closer to the Lift Bridge the sky was a pitch white color, we crossed the Lift Bridge, and OH MY GOD, i couldn't believe what i was seeing, those snow drifts were enormous, they were up onto the roofs of these houses down there!!!!!!!! So, do you think last March's blizzard was worse than the Halloween blizzard of 1991?
The Arkansas/LSU game on Friday was simply AWESOME! Personally, i just can't get excited over the big game Tonight between Kansas and Missouri, i know both teams are having terrific seasons, and it probably will be a very good game, but it's KU and Missouri, there best known for their college basketball teams, not football. 6 days and counting before the showdown in Texas, COWBOYS are going down!! lol..
i guess i should stick to weather talk in this forum though, lol so with that said.. Brady, keep an eye on the mid-week period, could be a snowy one around here. Nice lil low scoots NE out of the Rockies, wind off Lake Superior, cold temps at the surface/aloft, could see system snow plus a period of lake enhanced snow around here late Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm thinking 3 to 6 inches right now, lol i'm crazy for saying that since it's several days away, but so far the models have been pretty consistent.. But, i wouldn't be at all surprised if all this changes in the next day or two..
Tim, it's not really tornado season and it does appear to be football season, so I would think its cool with most people to waiver from the subject a little.
Lake effect snow squalls in Michigan! [Loud farting noise] Where is the Oklahoma update!
BAAHHH BAAHHH BAAHHH
Posted By Donny Cook | November 24, 2007 @ 1:05 PM #
You said it before i got a chance to kim you know Niegel it takes a lot of balls do go out one on one agaisnt mother nature at her furiest- last time i checked you didn't post any videos or pictures like most of us have
you finally got some snow. All the snow will be washed away here on Thursday cause its going to rain but then its going to snow the next 5 days so its all good.
"it's not really tornado season and it does appear to be football season, so I would think its cool with most people to waiver from the subject a little."
For the record, I am not one of those people. I come here to read about weather.
one really can't trust any model past 2 or 3 days though, they all flip flop, some more than others though.. WOW, 4 OT classic between Kentucky and Tennessee, 2 days in a row now with classic college football games, oops i shouldn't be talking about sports here.. sry!
Posted By tim jacobs | November 24, 2007 @ 6:30 PM #
well im going to do a bit on sports and weather being as everyone is talking about the football over there lol... I am proud to say my home town won 2-1 today in football lincoln city!! and we are predicted sleet for tomorrow, i want snow but i will probably have to wait until january, thats when we usually get snow....
Hey Reed. How are you doing? Hope all you guys states side had a great Thanksgiving.
That video's awesome. Lake effect snow is something I'd really like to experience sometime!
very cool video Reed, also liked the brief Foo Fighters song in the background-love that song!
thats a cool videos its funny tho cause yesterday we got a dusting of snow here in dallas and it wasnt supposed to happen so we got a crazy suprise here was cool tho =)

Two things:
1. Please tell us that you did have the mallard sign a release before showing him looking so forlorn.
2. Why did I not see any TV.net helmets and/or goggles in this episode? Was it recklessness or absent-mindedness?
hahahahah
Quick, someone give the duck a name.
Ok how about Goofy strike lol
Nice video Reed! I'm waiting on tomorrow for my snow chances! and possibly Sunday.

Yes Caleb, I saw your videos. Awsome haha! One day I should bike into a Leaf tornado..Or wait I already have. Tomorrow I hope I get a good little Flurrie event kind of thing! I'll probably film even if it comes at night.
Holy Cow, Caleb, was that a red Dodge in YOUR DRIVEWAY?!
:D
Wich one the truck or the van? the van always brakes down LOL Can I see your photobucket?
haha. I think Caleb's guilty of the red Dodge syndrome also, spawned by the movie "Twister." But, can you blame him? lol.
EXTREME!!!! What's the duck's name?
The truck, Caleb. Every real chaser has a red Dodge! :-D
I don't have any videos online, sorry. Our camera doesn't even have sound ... we don't really even have a video camera, just what the digital regular camera can do.
Hey, it looks an awful lot like my first real truck... hehe. Is it a Dakota? I can't tell really... I liked mine, too bad it was a lemon...
It snowed here ladies and gents!! YAY!! Guess who's gonna go drift around corners now?! hehe. See ya guys later!
Yeah it's a decota
Dose'nt Reed ave a red dicota?
Caleb your spelling it wrong, It's DAKOTA!
Supposed to snow tonight.
Nissan Titan SS All the way baby!!!
Heidi that's my dads. i wanna TIV but i cant drive
How about Daphne the duck? I don't remember how to tell if it is male or female duck.
That video is INTENSE!!!
Reporting flurries today in western oklahoma.
Usualy with ducks, the male (drake) is the colorful one of the two. That mallard was a male - the females are brown. :)
I think it would look even more forlorn, and would possibly sue for demamation, if it were to be named Daphne.
That was supposed to say "defamation." I am suffering from pie ... that's why it happened! :D
Wow thats was EXTREME.
And one thing. your telling people to be careful hahahaha that made me laugh.
Heyuys whats going on?
Caleb ace videos :D
susan What the heck why would you be asking that on here i'm not saying you can't but why? my website is done!
Caleb, there is a duck in Reed's video, that's why. :P
how about "Disaster" the duck! Could be the blog "mascot"??-
Oh sorry.. Heidi remebere that armadillow? can you post those phtos?
I know its not very original but i like sleep just seeing it lol :P sleepy duck lol oh well....

Reminds me of here because of all the ocean. Great work. Are you a meteoroligist(sp?) or is this a hobby. (off topic: why are people that study weather called meteorologist? Shouldn't they study meteors?
Joe, I found this in a search of the word "meteorology." It might help answer your question.
Meteorology (from Greek: µet?????, meteoron, "high in the sky"; and ?????, logos, "knowledge")
The word "meteor" comes from the same root word since meteors appear to come from high in the sky.
Hey Joe welcome to TV.net.
Yes Reed and Joel both graduate from Oklahoma University Reed is still there for his PhD.
Thank you for your reply. Your answer to "meteorology" does makes sense and is interesting.
Also I just read the "About us" section, haha. I realized as soon as i posted it.
Hey no problem.
If ya got any questions dont hesitate to ask im sure there someone that can help ya out.
Joe, they actually need to update that "About Us" section by about 2 years or so. Just thought I'd let you know that they're older than it says.

Well we finally got about an inch of snow here. No wind or crazy stuff. Guess I'll go hunting in the morning. The pheasants should be out warming up :) Nice video Reed!!
i actually don't remmeber when it was heidi- but i think your right though
awesome they are heading to Holland...
hey heidi, we have the same ducks over here. lately the dutch have been going mental about storms cause this guy called piers corbyn (brit) is predicting a superstorm for holland this weekend. he bases his forecasting mostly on the sun. http://www.weatheraction.com/ because a famous dutch weatherman posted his prediction on his blog the dutch media has gone completely mental about it. the funny thing was that he predicted this storm supposedly(that brought us the high stormsurge) personally I think hes bluffing and secretly looks at the weathermaps. thing is since he mentioned superstorm the dutch media has jumped on it like nothing b4(I guess they notice the clicks) personally I think its all bs but I wonder wot the experts think? does the sun influence the weather on earth in such a way that you can predict possible superstorms/hurricanes from it?
Looks like on monday that West virginia has a 15% chance of svr weather.
Yea, That was extreme Video. Extremely Boring!
Well, Niegel, you don't belong on this site then. We happen to appreciate Reed's vidieos. The time and effort he puts into each one of them!
Snowstorm possible next week for the praries!! Finally!!! Yeeehawww I hope it happens!!! I'll totaly be filming this event if models verify.

For the record, I am not one of those people.
I come here to read about weather.
Yeah.... We all know that.
Yeah.... I think if a tornado happens during a dallas foot ball game the deaths & injeres would be major!
